Icing on the Cake
Chapter Ninety-Eight
~98~
Instinctively, Calum went running after him and jumped right into the pool. About ten seconds, but what felt like ten hours, Calum came bursting up with Adam in his arms.
“Bring Anastasia inside!” I ordered Julia, which she quickly obliged to.
I ran over and pulled out my phone to dial zero-zero-zero. “We need an ambulance!” I said, trying not to panic.
“Is he breathing?” I asked Calum who had laid Adam down on the ground.
“I don’t think so!” Calum said panicking. Calum began to do CPR. After about forty seconds of that, Adam coughed up a bit of water.
After coughing up the water, Adam started gasping for air, like he was struggling to breath. We didn’t know if we should continue CPR, lay him on his stomach, what to do.
After a minute of sitting helplessly as Adam kept breathing in like he was choking, the ambulance and paramedics came. They immediately started working on him, then put him on a gurney and got him in the ambulance.
Calum and I ran inside, worried sick. We knew that no one was in the state of mind to drive, but we had to follow the ambulance.
Calum decided to drive, and we put Julia and Anastasia in the car with us.
The ambulance was already long gone, so we just went to the nearest emergency room. We ran in and gave them our names and Adam’s name. The receptionist said that they were trying to stabilize him and we had to wait in the waiting room.
The doctors were doing “everything they could do.” I fell into Calum’s arms, feeling like I couldn’t stand. He sat me down in the chair.
I think Anastasia was fairly unaware of what was going on. That’s probably a good thing. This waiting was killing me. I just had to wait.
Wait for him to die? Wait for him to live?
Notes
Wait for a resolution, that would never come? (TITANIC REFERENCE!)
Okay, only one chapter left until triple digits.
Line from Chapter 100:
"...yanked Anastasia out of Calum's arms, which caused her to start screaming and..."
