Icing on the Cake

Chapter Nine

~9~

Calum and I spent the next few days hanging out after school, and kissing. He asked me to have a sleepover again that Friday. After swimming, we watched a movie in his basement and kissed.

Neither of us told either of our parents. We didn’t tell mine because they wouldn’t approve. Calum’s parents would be cool, but we didn’t tell them at first because they probably wouldn’t have let us have sleepovers if they knew we were together.

It was so amazing. He was my boyfriend who was my best friend. We never actually formally called ourselves “boyfriends,” but Calum did refer to me as his boyfriend, which made me feel awesome.

I always wanted to stay over at his place. It was so amazing to stay up until two a.m. playing video games, then kissing for another hour, and then cuddling until the morning.

I still really wanted to go to prom with him, but he already asked Mimi. I was going to bring up the topic, but I was afraid to have the painful conversation.

One day I went on Facebook and saw Mimi make a very angry post, saying that she wishes certain douchebag guys would go screw themselves and die. I suddenly got excited, thinking that maybe Calum broke off the prom date with her.

It was Friday afternoon, and Calum and I had plans to do a sleepover, like we did almost every weekend. I was cooking in the last class with Calum, and we were making a chocolate cake. Once it came out of the oven, Calum said he needed to do something with it.

In that class, we would also have written assignments, and we were working on one of those assignments when the cake was baking. Calum asked me to continue with the assignment while he worked on the cake.

He told me it was ready to cut and eat when I saw what he had written. The Icing on the Cake said, "Prom?"

I squealed with excitement. I almost started crying, like it was an engagement. “Yes!” I said and we hugged. We quickly detached, considering we were in school and PDA was frowned upon there.

“If he doesn’t dump Luke like he did Mimi.” I heard one of Mimi’s friends say.

I didn’t let that comment bother me. I was going to the prom with the man that I loved, and no bitch could take that away from me.
