Icing on the Cake

Chapter Ten

~10~

There was only two months to prom. The fact that we were going together was going to force us to tell our parents…about us.

We decided that Calum’s parents would be the best to start with. We knew his parents would be cool with it, and that mine would not. I didn’t want either parents to find out, because once Calum’s parents found out I knew they would put a stop to our sleepovers. I savored our last sleepover together. We were going to tell them the next morning.

It was Saturday afternoon, and I was about to leave to go home. Calum told his parents that he needed to tell them something. He sat them down on the couch, and we were sitting on an adjacent couch. My heart was racing, and I felt myself start panicking. Calum lightly and briefly put his hand on mine, which calmed me down a little. Calum looked at his parents with total confidence and no fear.

“Mom, Dad, I’m not going to the prom with Mimi.” Calum said. “I’m going with Luke. Because he’s my boyfriend.”

“Okay.” His mom said without batting an eye. “Do you want me to keep the same reservation’s at the restaurant.”

“Yes please.” Calum said.

“I don’t think you two should have sleepovers anymore.” His dad said.

“Oh, it’s fine!” Calum’s mom said. “They’re responsible. I think they can make decisions that they know we would be okay with.”

I left almost right after the conversation. We walked out of the house and stood on his porch. I was so relieved. We hugged for a few minutes. “I can’t believe how easy that was!”

“I wasn’t too concerned.” Calum said. We then placed our lips together.

Just then, his sister Mali walked out. “What’s this?” She asked, almost sounding like a snarl.

“I was making out with my boyfriend.” Calum said. Damn, how did he have that much charm that effortlessly?

“Oh.” Mali said, relaxed. “Want to see a movie tonight? I leave again on Monday so tonight’s our only night.”

“Yeah, sounds good!” Calum said. He pecked my lips once more. “See you later, Lukey.”

“See you later.”

That was so easy. Why couldn’t telling my parents be that easy?
