Icing on the Cake

Mali looked like she hadn’t slept all night. There were dark circles under her eyes, her hair was in a big messy bun, she clearly had no makeup on, and she was wearing leggings and a pull on sweatshirt.

“Hey Luke.” She said quietly. “Is Calum there?”

“Yeah.” I said delicately. “I’ll go get him.”

“Luke.” She said. “Thank you for, you know, showing me about him.”

“You’re welcome.” I said.

I went up to get Calum. Calum hugged Mali and they went out to the patio to talk. I decided to give them privacy, knowing that if they wanted me included, they would come get me.

Julia asked what was wrong. I didn’t know what to tell her, so I tried to explain that it wasn’t my place to tell her and that she had to ask Calum.

It was in the middle of the day that I got a text message from a number I didn’t recognize. Whenever I get a text from a weird number, I automatically assume it’s a fan who got my number. I should have the contact info for everyone in my life….usually.

-Hey, Luke.

Me: How did you get this number?

-I called your mom and she gave it to me.

Me: Who is this?

-It’s Karen. I was wondering…if you’d want to hang out sometime.

Oh my God. It was Karen. The girl I was friends with in high school. The girl Calum suggested I go to prom with the year I went with him. The girl that was nerdy, but I liked her for that. The one who I would hang out with before band concerts in high school, and we would laugh and laugh. She wanted to hang out.

Notes

Karen was in Chapter 4 and Chapter 22.
Also, I have decided to extend the story past 110 chapters, which means my big climax is not going to be on chapter 100.
So...I had to come up with another big event for chapter 100.
