Icing on the Cake

I couldn’t sleep, because I wanted to tell Calum so badly who Brock is. I wanted to tell Calum so badly how we knew him.

But he was sleeping. And I didn’t want to wake him.

The next morning, I woke up to find that Calum was not in the bed. I walked downstairs to find a note form him

I went to talk to Mali. Don’t know how well it will go, so I decided to take her to lunch to have more time. I’ll be back as soon as possible. –Calum

Julia was in the playroom with the twins. I decided to make lunch for us and feed the children. After that, I still hadn’t heard from Calum. I decided not to try to text or call him. I decided to just wait for him to contact me.

By one in the afternoon, I was going crazy, so Julia and I brought the children to the park.

About an hour later, Julia and I put the children down for a nap once we got home. After that, Calum walked in the door. He looked very upset, maybe like he had been crying.

“How’d it go?” I asked immediately.

“Horrible.” Calum said, like he was fighting to not cry. “She…doesn’t really believe me. She told me that if I mentioned it again, I shouldn’t come to the wedding.”

“Oh my God!” I said. “I don’t even know what to say.”

“She’s in love.” Calum said. “That’s all she can see.”

“Calum.” I said. “Brock looks really familiar to me. I kept looking at pictures of him. And I figured out who he looks like. He looks like, I think he’s Brett.”

“Who’s Brett?” Calum asked back.

“Remember back in high school, the year we went to prom together, you first asked out that girl Mimi? And she had her boyfriend come and beat me up for being gay? Her boyfriend, was Brett.”

Those who have been around forever remember Brett. He was in Chapter 13 for those that want to look back :)
