Icing on the Cake

Chapter Seventy-Seven

~77~

I couldn’t believe that they were getting married this quickly. Should I tell Calum what Brock said? Is there a point? He’s not the first homophobic asshole we’ve come across in our lives, obviously.

The next day, we went shopping. All five of us were invited to the wedding, myself, Calum, Julia, Adam, Anastasia. Julia asked if she could stay back; she didn’t want to go. We agreed and let her just watch the twins that night. Just Calum and I went shopping for new wedding clothes.

As we were about to leave, I opened the door to see Brock on the other side of the door. Mali was not behind him. She didn’t come with.

“Oh, hey!” I said, knowing I was sounding like a fake bitch.

“Hey, man.” He said back to me like nothing had ever happened. “Can I talk to Calum?”

“What’s up, Brock?” Calum asked as he got to the door.

“I know it’s short notice, but I was wondering if you would be a groomsmen?” He asked to Calum and Calum only, excluding me.

“Oh my God,” Calum said, “Of course! I’d love to!”

“Great! The colors are beige and gray.”

“Oh, Luke and I were about to head out to get a new outfit for this.”

“Awesome!” Brock said. “Can I tag along with you guys?”

“Sure!” Calum said. “Get in the car!”

Oh, God, no. Please no. I reluctantly got in the car.

That bitch kept smiling at me like nothing had happened. And of course, if I said anything, I’d come off as the sporadic bitch. He put me in a junior high sort of trap.

It’s weird, I he reminded me of someone. Someone I had maybe known before. And I had that feeling when I first met him a couple years ago. But I couldn’t figure out who he reminded me of.

Once we got to the store, we right away were trying on clothes. Calum went across the store at one point to look for a different size. Brock and I were alone in the dressing room area. I don’t know if he thought I went with Calum, but I overheard a conversation I probably shouldn’t have.

Brock was in a dressing room with the door closed, but I could still hear him. I think he was on the phone.

“I know.” He said. “I already got her to move up the wedding.” There was a pause. “Yes, I know. I’m doing everything I can. I just have to coast for the next two days. Once she says I do we’ll have the Hood family fortune and I’ll be out of here.”
