Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Ninety-Six
~196~
“If someone were to ask me,” Calum started, “What it is that motivates me to get out of bed every day and live my life to the best that I can, my answer would be you, Luke.”
A huge smile cracked across my face.
“Everything I do I do for you, and for our family.” Calum continued. “You mean the entire world to me. If I were to inherit the earth but loose you, I would be a poor man.”
I started tearing up, but didn’t want to be that bitch crying at the altar. Oh, what the fuck, it’s my wedding day, and I’ll cry if I want to.
“By the power vested in me, by the State of New South Wales,” The officiator said, “I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom.”
Calum leaned in and kissed me.
Music started playing; the second and cheerier half of “A Thousand Years” played as we walked own the aisle, out of the sanctuary.
For at least an hour, everyone walked through a line to come congradualte us. I saw relatives that I hadn’t seen in years, that I only vaguely knew about their lives through their posts on social media.
After people were thinning out of the venue hall, most people started making their way back to the hotel where the dinner and dance would be.
“Are you ready to go eat and party, Mr. Hood?” Calum asked me while putting out his hand for the taking.
“I sure am, Mr. Hemmings.” I semi-joked back as I took my husband’s hand.
And for the first time, I got in the car with my husband. We were going to go celebrate our new nuptials.
Notes
Do wedding officiators say "Power Vested in me by the State of New South Wales" (or whatever state you're in) in Australia?
We're getting closer to the end of the story. I'm so excited for y'all to read the climax in Chapter 200!
My heart, Oof.
