Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Eighty-Three
~183~
“You’re kicking her out?” Julia asked angrily.
“Julia,” I said, trying to stay as calm as possible, “We said form the beginning that Alina would not be living her permanently.”
“We’ll help her out with the first couple months of rent and utilities.” Calum added. “But we have a brand new baby at home, our wedding is coming up fast, we have a lot going on and there simply isn’t enough space in our house.”
“Look,” I said, “I’m sorry if we seemed mean to Alina. We only said what we said because she was criticizing our parenting choices.”
“Okay.” Julia said.
“She’s your sister, and I love her just because of that.” I comforted. “I want her in our lives and in our children’s lives, it’s just not working to have her here.”
“And we’re going to help her out financially.” Calum reiterated. “We realize that it’s going to take time for her to find a job.”
“You say about your wedding…” Julia said, “Can Alina come to the wedding?”
“Of course!” I said.
I could tell that we had calmed Julia down. It did still, however, upset me that I was apologizing for defending myself against someone who criticized me as both a parent and a homosexual.
“Thank you for what you do for my sister.” Julia said to us.
We all went in for a group hug.
“You’re welcome.” I said to her.
