Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Sixty-Eight
~168~
“Seven months, how you feeling?” Dr. Handler asked Julia as he squeezed ultra sound gel onto her belly.
“Okay…hungry.” Julia responded.
Julia was lying down on the table. Dr. Handler was on one side of here while Calum and I were on the other side. We were so excited to see this ultra sound.
“There’s the baby!” Handler said as he pointed to the screen. “There’s its head, and there’s its hand…”
Before, I always thought it was ridiculous that people would cry when they looked at an ultra sound, but I was starting to get emotional.
In my peripheral vision, I could see that Calum was getting emotional, too. I took Julia’s hand, and Calum wrapped his hand around ours.
“There’s the feet.” Handler said. He then suddenly paused. “That’s weird.”
“What’s weird?” Calum asked immediately.
“Is something wrong?” I asked as I felt panic rush over me.
“I don’t think anything’s wrong,” Handler said as he wiped the gel off of Julia’s belly.
Dr. Handler then took a stethoscope and started placing it up and down Julia’s belly. He did this for about a minute. Then, he put more gel on Julia’s belly, and made an adjustment behind the ultra sound screen.
He then shared what he was thinking. “I am picking up two separate heart beats!”
We all tightened our grasp on our three-way hand hold.
“Julia, you are pregnant with twins again!” Handler said. “It must be something that runs in your family. Multiple births can be genetic.”
Huge smiles erupted across all of our faces. Calum and I hugged, and we both leaned down to give Julia a hug.
“We’re having twins!” Julia exclaimed.
Notes
Y'all I saw Panic! At the Disco last night and they were amazing.
My heart, Oof.
