Icing on the Cake

“Let’s go swimming!” Adam exclaimed after we cleaned up from breakfast.

Julia was getting better and better at English, but the twins were picking it up surprisingly well. They worked with a tutor three times a week. Julia still read to them in Ukrainian, and they were becoming fluent in both languages.

“No, let’s color!” Anastasia suggested in contrast.

“We can color any time, but we can only swim when it’s nice out!” Adam argued back.

Adam then proceeded to grab my hand and pull me towards the patio door that lead to the backyard and the pool.

Calum looked at me and said, “I’ll take her upstairs to color, you can take him to the pool.”

“I can go alone!” Adam protested.

“No you can’t!” I said firmly, leaning down to his level. “You can’t go swimming on your own! You always have to ask for permission!”

“I know but why?” Adam whined back.

“Because we love you and we don’t want anything bad to happen to you!” I said as I gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Now let’s go upstairs and get you into your swimsuit!”

“I can do it alone!” Adam insisted.

“Okay.” I said with a smile. “Come back down after you’ve changed!”

“Is he gone?” Julia asked after Calum, Anastasia, and Adam all walked up the stairs.

“They’re gone.” I said. “You can eat whatever you want without them being jealous.

Julia then went to the fridge and proceeded to spray ReddiWhip whipped cream on pickle spears and slid them into her mouth.
