Icing on the Cake

“Your vitals look good.” Dr. Handler said to us while all three of us were in the doctor’s office, ready to get going with the insemination.

“Your body is healthy, and your hormone levels are in the right place to get pregnant.” He continued. “But I have to ask you Julia, you are only eighteen years old. Are you sure you want to have a baby at this young age?”

“I get pregnant at fourteen before.” Julia answered. “And I have no help. I can get care now. I’m ready.”

“Well then I see no reason why we shouldn’t move forward!” Dr. Handler said. “How quickly do we want to move forward?”

“As soon as possible.” Julia answered.

“In that case,” Handler continued, “Luke, Calum, we’ll have you two make your deposits as soon as possible. And Julia, we’ll check to see if you’re ovulating.”

“When should we…um…make our deposit?” I asked, awkwardly. “Today?”

“Well, how long has it been since you have ejaculated?” Handler asked.

“Last night.” I said while Calum simultaneously said “Three days.”

I shot what I could only assume to be a nasty look at Calum. “What?” I snarled.

“Well…” Handler started, feeling tension, “Calum, you would be able to give your deposit today, but Luke we would ask that you wait a day and come in tomorrow. But be sure not to ejaculate between now and tomorrow when you come in.”

Handler handed Calum a cup and said that he was going to take Julia to do some ovulation tests on her. He directed Calum to go down to a room at the end of the hall.

“What the hell was that, three days?” I asked Calum before he left for the deposit room but after the doctor and Julia left. “We had sex last night!”

“I…faked…it.” Calum said quietly, like he was defeated.

“I’m sorry, did you just say you faked it?”
