Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Six
~146~
“Are you ready to do this?” I asked Calum the morning of the parade. We were getting dressed. I decided to go with black skinny jeans, a rainbow shirt, a trans pride hat, and sunglasses with a rainbow trim.
Calum decided to wear something more pedestrian. He wore his classic black skinny jeans, Blink 182 shirt with the sleeves ripped off, and a snapback.
Amanda showed up at our door at one p.m. The parade would start at four.
The organization put together a tight security for us. The security came and picked us up. They had very government-looking type black cars for us.
We drove to the area of Sydney that the parade would be at. There must have been thousands of people in this area, all ready to show pride.
Finally stopping, Calum and I were dropped off in a gated area. The makeshift metal gates and fences separated us from most people.
A couple reporters came up to us and started doing live interviews with us. They asked us basically the same questions as always.
It was a gorgeous day. It was warm but not too hot. Partly sunny, and there was a soft, pleasant breeze once in a while.
Calum was clearly nervous right away, but I could tell he was starting to relax.
Amanda came up to us around two thirty p.m.
“We have reporters that would like you two to meet some fans, and fellow LGBTQ+ alies.” Amanda said to us. “It’s just a couple, and we’ll bring them into the fenced area one at a time so it won’t be too overwhelming.”
“That sounds like fun.” I responded back.
“Yeah, bring them in!” Calum agreed.
