“We are here with Luke Hemmings.” The interviewer who was in her mid-20s said the next day, commencing the interview, “And he is going to be talking about his participation in the upcoming pride parade here in Sydney, as well as some progressive legislation that a significant portion of the population is pushing for. Thanks for being here, Luke.”

“Thanks for having me!” I said back.

“So I understand that your fiancée, Calum Hood, will also be taking part in the pride festivities?”

“He will.” I said. “He wasn’t able to make it today, but he will be there!”

To be honest, I was a little upset that Calum didn’t come to this interview.

“Luke, why is this pride parade so important to you?”

“I think it’s important that a lot of people show up to show their support for this new bill that is on the Parliament floor.”

“And this new bill would give total marriage equality across the board, regardless of gender.”

“I think it’s really important for the members of Parliament to understand,” I explained, “That we’re the ones that vote them in, we pay their salary, we are affected by their decisions, and that they work for us. We demand equality and they must to give it to us.”

“What would you say to those that oppose your opinion?” She asked.

“I would say that you have no right to say that I shouldn’t have rights. And I would say that this pride festival and all the others to come are us demanding those rights.”

“What would you say to the members of Parliament that oppose this bill?”

“I would say shame on you. Shame on you for not supporting full equality, and shame on you for using your power for destruction rather than progress.”

“Will Luke Hemmings one day be our Parliament member?” The interviewer asked.

“Maybe.” I said. “I’ll keep you posted.”
