Icing on the Cake

Chapter One Hundred and Thirty-Five

~135~

It was surprisingly easy for everyone to awkwardly laugh at what had just happened and move on to enjoying each other’s company again.

Adam and Anastasia soon fell asleep, so Julia and Calum carried them up to their room to put them to bed.

My mom came up to me once the party was wrapping up.

“Thank you for inviting me.” She said to me. “I’m really happy that I got to meet my grandchildren.”

I gave her a hug. Calum and I hugged everyone as they left, then we cleaned up.

We then went to bed. The next morning, we had the picture perfect Christmas morning where the twins (and Julia) came to wake us up and we all ran downstairs. We had explained the concept of Santa to the twins and they were obviously very excited for presents.

We had put out gifts the night before from “Santa” before going to bed.

Calum made eggs and cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and after eating, all of us retired to the living room where the twins took presents from under the tree. We gave Adam a new Barbie play set and new swimming floaties. We gave Anastasia a new art/painting kit and a talking teddy bear.

They jumped on our laps to open presents, and we hugged them, and we had the perfect Christmas morning together. We had the perfect family, all five of us.

We had given gifts to Julia and she had given each of us one back. She also gave a gift to both Anastasia and Adam.

When I was opening the gift Calum got me, I gasped in utter surprise and happiness. He was giving me the invitations to our wedding. They were finally done and printed, in our white and raspberry colors. They looked amazing.

In return, I got Calum a watch he really wanted.

We spent all day in pajamas, watching Christmas movies, playing with the twins’ new toys, and then going swimming (to Adam’s request).

“It was a great day.” Calum said that night as we were getting ready for bed.

“It was.” I said, in the walk in closet. I then walked out with a bow in my hand. “But I have one more gift for you to unwrap.”

I placed the bow on the top of my head as Calum came over to kiss me.
