Icing on the Cake

To the contentment of my brothers, I decided to go visit my mom.

I met up with my brothers before walking in. We knew both our parents were in my mother’s room. I know that my parents had each tried to reach me over the years. There was my mother on my 20th birthday and my father that one Christmas Eve.

We all three walked in, and my mother lit up when she saw the three of us. She looked gray, very sick, and like she had lost a lot of weight. She had a scarf around her scalp and her skin looked like it was hanging on her.

“All three of my boys are here!” She exclaimed.

My father came up to me with a big smile and put his hand on my shoulder. “Thanks for coming today, son.”

I gave a half-ass smile. This was a very awkward situation for so many reasons.

“We need a family photo.” My mother said. “We haven’t had one in so long.”

“And who’s fault is that?” I blurted out.

“Luke,” She said, about to cry. “I’m sorry for what I did.”

“Are you just saying that because you’re using my credit card?” I shot back.

“It’s not Luke. Every day I regret what I did.”

I decided to believe her. Partially because I wanted to believe her, but mostly because I wanted to avoid an argument.

We all huddled together to take a family photo, the first one we had ever taken together in over five years.

Notes

I still think it would be a really good business idea to pay fanfic writers to do product placement in their stories. Luke could say instead of credit card, for example, My Visa Capital One Venture Card to earn 2% cash back on all purchases!

I'm in such writer's block like I can't think of any storylines other than the big final one that I've had in mind since the beginning or to close up open ones.

Should I start wrapping this story up? Should I finish it? Give it like 15 more chapters and that's it? Or do you want more?
