Novacane

As Grayson was driving me back home, it was dead silence. I don’t know if I could say anything. I was still processing what happened. It happened all so quickly and in a blur. All I could remember were his lips on mine. It felt… amazing. Unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Was it wrong that I liked it? Did he like it? My lips were numb afterwards, almost as he shot me in the lip with novacane. I wondered if he felt the same way too. There was no telling. All I know is that I wanted it again.

Unfortunately, he carefully strolled into the driveway of my home. He let me out is truck and surprisingly walked me to the door. One thing I could say that had me in awe, other than the kiss, was his manners. He treated me like… a woman. As the front door became more closer than before, I panicked on what to say. On how to end the night. One of the best nights of my life so far.

“Grayson,” I say before unlocking the door, intrigued on how I could utterly say his name without an eye roll.

“Yeah?” He had his hands in his pockets of his navy blue suit that was tailored just for him, but instead of making eye contact with me his eyes stayed glued to the brick layout of the porch.

“Tonight was… “ I searched for the right words on how epic this night was. “Phenomenal.” He slowed looked up and smiled. I took one step towards him as if he knew what I was thinking, he grabbed my waist and locked me in for another incredible kiss. This one even better than the last if that was possible. I felt one hand firmly locked on to my waist and the other supporting my bare back. We didn’t use any tongue, but it was perfect in its intensity either way.

This time I was the one to break away first. “Goodnight Grayson.” He smiled and slightly laughed. He licked his bottom lip to recover and stepped away.

“Goodnight Mila.” His eyes was so caring the way he looked at me so blushing was an automatic must.

Unlocking the door and stepping inside, I turned around and he was walking backwards to his truck. He waved and had one of his boyish grins painted on his face. I couldn’t help but smile and wave back.

Tonight was truly a great night. I didn’t just say so he can feel good about himself because he’s actually a good stand up guy once you look past his ego. I could also notice he wanted to treat me differently than other he’d had in the past. He wanted to take everything slow for me. I could tell that he didn’t have any icebreakers, which is unusual for him, but I guess the Grayson I’m use to seeing is just a facade. It’s just a front for his friends and to uphold his reputation. Now that I reflect on this date, Grayson could have a possible chance with me and I wouldn’t mind it one bit. I wanted to know more about him and what he’s really like away from school and his friends. I wanted to know the real Grayson O’Conner.

When I reached my room, I stripped off my dress, along with the heels and left them on the floor, feeling too lazy and too dazed to put them in their proper places. I discarded my bra and swapped it for a black Nike sports bra instead then place my pink cotton shorts upon my waist. I wiped the remaining makeup still left on my face with a towelette. Fish-tailing my hair to the side, I smiled at the fantastic night I had, not being able to get it off my mind. For the remainder of the night, I checked my Instagram not that I posted daily but it was the same as usual. Old creepy guys wanting my number, people requesting for a follow, and the usual likes and comments. Nothing changed.

Setting my phone to the side on the stand next to my bed, I switched my lamp off which was the only light illuminating my room. I got comfortable under the covers and allowed sleep to overwhelm me with a smile of content on my face…

After practice was over, I got my stuff from the locker room and hurried out to talk with Mila, but I was too late. Grayson was already chatting her up while walking her to the Senior’s student parking lot. I felt rage in the pit of my stomach. I don’t understand. Why would she go out with trash like that? She can do better and her better could be me. I can be an actual gentleman to her and treat her like she deserves to be. Like a queen. He doesn’t make her smile. He doesn’t give her that twinkle in her eyes. I do that.

Finally approaching my house, I walked in and slammed the door in anger. Letting it known that I was home. I began furiously stomping upstairs to my room until my mom stopped me with the sound of her delicate voice. Almost replicating the angelic sound of Mila’s. “Harry? You alright?” She questioned.

“I’m fine mum,” I lied, but I should know better than to lie to her. She knows all. She’s my mother for Jesus Christ.

“You don’t sound fine.” I peeked from over my shoulder and saw her with her hands on her hips in her most defying stance.

“I don’t want to talk about it.” Without another word, I quickly trotted into my room and flopped on my bed, face down. Soon enough, sleep conquered me and I dreamed my wildest dreams…
