A Beautiful Person

“Mila…” Her name slipped out of my with a groan as I had a sharp pain on the left temple. My head was inclined back against the headrest as I tried my best slowly to physically move my head without being in pain. “Mila…” I moaned out again, hoping- praying, for a response. But it didn’t happen. I looked next to me where she sat. Where she should have been. I remember feeling the panicked feeling in my chest. “Mila…” I said it but much louder. My heart was pounding too hard beyond belief and too hard for me to actually be alive. Something told me to look towards the windshield. Now there wasn’t a windshield anymore as it shattered into a billion pieces…

M I L A
Present

As I drove home and walked solemnly up the stairs to my bedroom, I couldn’t get over the thought of going on an actual date with the enemy. I, Milena Alba Thompson is going out on a legit date with Grayson O’Conner. It didn’t make any sense. It was trying to figure out the surface area of triangle inside a hemisphere, inside a square. It was giving me a major headache. I should hurry and get dress...

Wait… Am I really freaking out about what to wear on a date with a dude I don’t even like? I mean, it’s Grayson. The Grayson that flirts on everything which is the opposite sex. What is happening to me? Do I have feelings for him now? Or what? But when he said he was sorry, it looked like he genuinely meant it.

I stripped off my clothes and turned on the water. While I waited for the water to warm up, I put my hair into a bun. I got in the shower still pondering this whole ‘date’ thing. When I got out, I went into my closet and looked through dresses upon dresses until I found the right one. It wasn’t too sexy but it wasn’t too bland. I guess you can say it was “slassy”. Classy and sexy.

I went over to my vanity mirror and applied little makeup. I don’t usually wear it because let’s face it makeup is expensive and takes up a lot of time. I just use it for special occasions like this one. This is my funeral. I did my usually straight hair in synchronizing waves then went to put on the dress. I looked back at the clock. 7:20. I gotta get shoes. Shoes. Shit. Why don’t I think of shoes?

Going back into my closet, I picked some basic nude heels. Looking at myself in the mirror, I decided I didn’t look half bad for my first actual date. The doorbell rung throughout the house making me jump a little. I grabbed my clutch with my phone and keys in it, making my way downstairs. I answered the door and Grayson turned around. His eyes wandered over my body a thousand times.

“Ready?” I asked.

“Uh… Yeah.”

I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t help but stare. Mila was… Incredible. Irresistible. Beautiful. She looked something ripped off the front of a Playboy magazine. It was a black sleeveless dress but as I walked her to my truck, I saw it was cut out in the back and she was most definitely wearing a bra. Damn. I wanted to so bad to skip our reservation and take her in the car but I couldn’t. I chivalrously opened the door for her, helping her up inside by gripping her unbelievably soft hand. Getting in my side, I began to drive down the road.

What do you say to a girl you’ve liked since the sixth grade? I don’t want to come off as a total perv but I also want to compliment her on how great she looks. God, please don’t me screw this up. “You look amazing.” Her eyes made contact with me.

“You don’t look bad yourself.” It worked, I think. What do I say next? I’m usually really good at this. Okay, how about we talk about… sports? No. Maybe she wants to talk about school? Maybe I should stay quiet. I should definitely stay quiet.

“So,” she spoke up. I thought she was going to keep silent but I guess not. “What are we going to do after dinner?” Damn it. I didn’t plan this far ahead.

“Take a walk. We’ll, uh, take a walk,” I said frantically. I sound like a damn idiot.

“Oh, nice.” When she said ‘Oh, nice’ does that mean ‘Oh, nice’ what a great idea or ‘Oh, nice’ job dumbass.

Why am I getting so worked up over the little things? I’ve talked to her a thousand times before, so it should be simple right? I just have to open up and not come on so strong. Okay, breathe Grayson, breathe. “So, first game is this Friday. You coming?” She looked back at me from gazing out the window. She just nodded her head. Am I really this boring? “And after the game, Sophia is throwing a party.”

“Sophia’s throwing a party? After what happened last year?” We shared a laugh because it was pretty ridiculous. Last year, someone knocked over a tiki torch at her hawaiian themed party. It caught fire on to the drapes and fortunately the entire house wasn’t up in flames but it was funny as hell when Sophia’s parents dragged her ass into their car.

As we finally approached the restaurant, I stopped the car. I got out and helped Mila out the truck. We got inside and I told the hostess my last name. We followed her to our table quickly. I pulled out Mila’s seat and scooted her back in gently. The hostess left two menus on both sides of the table. Looking through the menu, I notice her biting her lip. She always does that when she’s thinking and oh does it ever so turn me on.
“You know what’s good here?” She asked letting go of her bottom lip but still looking through the menu.

“The linguine shrimp scampi is pretty amazing,” I offered. Quickly, our server came up to the table, “May I start you off with your drinks?”

“Water for me,” I said. I was nervous and this suit was not helping.

“Water for me as well,” Mila said, putting down her menu.

“Now, what will you two be having tonight?” the server asked us with a smile.

“I’ll have the Parmesan crusted chicken.” To be honest, I was starving. Not eating lunch and not eating after practice had me dying for their chicken.

“And I’ll have the linguine shrimp scampi.” We folded up our menus and handed them to the nice enough woman. So the night had begun…

Believe or not, during the dinner we actually had a decent conversation. I even made her laugh! We tried each other’s desserts and I really think she’s having a good time. “Can I ask you a question?” Her piercing gray eyes searching my brown ones.

“Yeah, of course.” I had gotten a little loosened up and became more open with her.

“Why do you like me so much?” It was like have a brick thrown at my face. I had no idea she was going to ask this question.

“I honestly think you’re a beautiful person, Mila.” That was the honest truth. There was nothing left to say about it.

“What makes me beautiful?” I smiled down at the cobblestone sidewalk as I had my hands deep in my pockets. She had my blazer on her shoulders making her look absolutely gorgeous if that was even possible.

“How you smile, how you bite your lip when you’re thinking, how you purse your lips when you’re mad, your sarcastic ass comebacks, and how you make me feel.” I saw that twinkling her eyes.

“You mean that?” We stopped walking.

“I mean all of it.” I took one hand and placed it on her waist and the other cupping her neck and kissed her. It felt so right. To my surprise she kissed me back. Before I got carried away, I pulled out first. I saw her chest lightly flutter and smelled her still minty breath as our heads touched. I swallowed hard. “I should get you home.” As much as the other me wanted to take her right then and there, I knew it wasn’t going to get me nowhere.

Damn, I think I’m in love…
