Scream For Me

"would the teacups ever do this?"

Front seats, two rides in a row — it was almost unheard of in such a crowded amusement park like this one, but apparently it wasn't too much of a rare occurrence because after a long awaited time, Harry and I had found ourselves strapped up and ready in none other than the very first of all the carriages.

Admiring the strange event, I turned to him, "how lucky are we?" I bubbled up with a short yet cheerful laugh and bounced up in my seat.

"So lucky." His eyes crinkled as he spoke. "It must be fate."

I raised my brow and sat back in my seat, noticing as an attendant approached, "Or just because we barged to the front." I whispered.

"Perhaps," he shrugged in a casual manner, "but mostly fate."

"You don't seem scared anymore." Harry commented, seemingly mostly to himself but nonetheless loud enough to be audible for myself. "What a brave girl you've grown to be in the last few minutes I've known you, I'm proud of you —" his sentence had started off louder and certainly more confident than it had before it drew to a finish as he suddenly cut himself short with a reason unapparent.

Grasping my attention, I looked at him with suspicion brimming up in my eyes and wondered if he did that often; cut himself off to stare into space. His neck craned to look at me and he stared with his thick brows furrowed, creating a prominent crease in the small space between both of his eyebrows.

I wondered how long I would say there waiting when he finally (and suddenly) spoke his mind, "What the hell is your name?" his features were crinkled in what I could only pinpoint as pure confusion — and a slight hint of frustration as he must have wracked it over in his brain for several seconds.

Realising my name had not been mentioned, I grinned. "Does it not add to my mysterious aura?"

"It does but not in a good way like before," he hummed.

"Like before, huh?" I chuckled with a nutorious smirk.

"No, not like that." He grimanced and, once again, shook his head, throwing his brunette hair around is face before changing the subject. "It's just bizarre that you know my name but I don't know yours, it blatantly screams catfish."

I gasped at him in disbelief, "That's just slightly offensive." my hands fixed his beanie that was still, after all this time, situated on the top of my head. "In my defense, I don't tend to do this thing often, you know, meet a stranger and randomly decide to spend the day with him — That's bizarre. May I also add that you wouldn't ever possibly find me catfishing someone with longer hair than me."

He winced, mocking pain as he clutched his chest. "Low blow, low blow."

Sharing laughs, we spent a few more moments of friendly back and forth banter and jokes before we gradually ascended into an odd silence. It was almost as if for a minute or so, we'd forgotten where we were but soon after we'd eventually came to the realisation and as we sat like our impatient selves; we wondered why the ride hadn't yet started.

Suddenly we were lurched forward but didn't actually move forward and after a moment of muttering and mumbling it continued with two more jolts followed by a strange yet quiet snapping sound but after assuming it was simply my wild imagination, I didn't bother mentioning it to Harry in case I frightened him as well as myself — then we'd both be screwed.

After approximately half a second, we slowly but surely traveled forward, causing several loud cheers and laughs.

Butterflies erupted from my stomach all the way up to my chest but this time I was almost positive it was nerves from our rough patch of a start. Harry, noticing this, reached his hand over to place it above my own and squezed it. Naturally, I blushed and tried to act as natural as I could, given that both myself and my stomach seemed to have ended up on a roller coaster.

We reached the top and before I knew it, we were being twirled and looped upside down and my nerves were soon drowned out by (not only mine but also Harry's) screams and cheers.

However, relief seemed short as series of screaches and many more extremely unhealthy sounds played through my ears. A gut wrenching wave of fear and regret fell over me and I paled as we neared a loop — this certainly was no longer just a trick of my imagination.

My screams were now screams of terror instead of excitement but they seemed to blend in with everyone elses, creating no audible comparison between my fear and their joy.

In attempt to alert Harry I tried to violently squeeze at his hand but he (misunderstanding my action, completely) only squeezed back and continued to cheer along. Turning to him, I looked at him and his completely oblivious face and found my lip threatening to quiver.

Why had we not simply just chosen a safe option like the teacups?

Unfortunately, all to soon, we were emerged into one of the largest loops that loomed over the entire park and my eyes squeezed out hot tears as we were turned upside down but instead of a short moment, we stayed there for not a second but a minute too long and soon panic settled in.

Gasps were heard throughout every passenger as people gradually started to conjure up that this was definitely not a part of the plan.

Notes

This gave me butterflies. I hate the thought of this actually happening in reality. The whole time I was writing this I kept thinking of Final Destination 3 (which is totally not what I'm going for) and I actually had to have a snack break because I needed to relax without thinking about killing off my favourite characters.
