Scream For Me

"just hanging out"

We hung like bats in a cave, our legs dangling above the deadly drop below us, and I internally thanked the belts that held us stiff in place — as much as they may have been tough and heavy on our chests, they had saved us from falling to our deaths, and that was always efficient.

"I can't breath," I heaved inbetween gasps of oxygen. "I can't breath. Harry, I can't breath." Continuing to repeat the same statement, my eyes were staring down, almost as wide as saucers. "Why can't I breath, Harry, why can't I breath?"

"Stop!" I heard him yell from beside me, "You're getting yourself riled up. Just try to calm down and stay still — we don't want to unsettle the balance and cause any more damage."

"What!" I yelped, my body wiggling uncontrollably.

I heard a creak and froze, letting the sound of panicked murmurs full my ears. I was a coward at the worst of times (this being a good example) and when I got myself to a certain point, I'd be inconsolably anxious and that was not good for a situation like this one.

"Is this a good time to say my last words? I feel like this may be a good time?" Somehow this has caused Harry to let out a slightly forced chuckle, with a hint of nervousness hidden behind it. "I'm serious!" I wailed and kicked my legs around franticly

"No, but it is a good time to give me your name."

"That's a big step for this relationship, you sure you're prepared?" How we had found humour within us was unknown but if entertaining ourselves calmed me down then it was obviously not too much of a burden.

"I think this experience has made me more than prepared."

I let out a giggle which caused my eyes to squeeze close and my nose to crinkle. I couldn't believe what was happening, we were hanging high enough in the air so that I could look over the entire area around us. I zoned in on the crowded hotdog stand and my stomach released a disturbing ripple of nauseousness.

I breathed, "Remi, my name's Remi."

"As in the name Remington?" He barked out an obnoxious laugh.

"Do I look like a Remington to you? No, it's just 'Remi'." I hissed, silencing him.

"Sorry." He apoligised in a way so that I could hear the sincerity in his tone. "But it's been lovely hanging around with you for these last ten minutes, Remi."

His pun hadn't amused me, in fact it kinda made me loath him a little bird, and so I didn't react. We sat — or rather, hung — in silence, awaiting some sort of help to come and rescue us but that seemed so unlikely, seeing as no-one had even looked up and notice us yet. Praying that they were doing something soon, I decided to find some source of distraction.

I glanced back at Harry, doing a double-take. His head hung low and his skin appeared almost green with sickness.

"Are you alive?" I blurted, not exactly thinking my words over firsthand. "I mean, are you okay?" He looked up at the darkening sky and allowed his eyes to slowly close and open again. After a moment, he looked to his side to focus on me.

"I'm just not good with heights." He looked down and up back at me, a scared expression etched into his features. "I'm really not good with heights."

"Me neither," I said in attempt to relate. "why did we have to choose this ride of all rides?"
