Expect the Unexpected ON HOLD

Chapter Seven

The end credits of the movie were rolling and the three pizza boxes from earlier were completely empty as the boys had quickly devoured them.

As gross as it seemed, it was actually pretty impressive.

Michael had crawled across the floor to the TV where he was searching through piles of video games. I lifted my head from Ashton’s shoulder as Calum and Luke turned to look at us. I didn’t want to listen to their teasing. I decided that I should probably text my parents to let them know I was okay. They had been worrying about me a lot lately and I knew it wouldn’t be fair to completely ignore them while I was out. That would only make them more anxious. I pulled out my ancient Nokia and began typing a quick text to my parents letting them know I was alright. Luke giggled from across the room in his armchair and I looked up from my phone, raising my eyebrows at him.

“Something funny Luke?” I asked. Luke pointed at my brick of a phone,

“I haven’t seen one of those since the fourth grade.” he chuckled. Calum joined in laughing at my sad piece of outdated technology. Ashton tightened his hold around my waist.

“I think it’s cute,” he said only loud enough for me to hear. I smiled and finished typing the text to my parents before hitting send. I checked the time and saw that it was only 8, so it’d probably be okay for me to stay a little longer if Ashton wanted me to stick around. I put my phone away as Michael finally picked out a game. Some Call of Duty thing that I wasn’t really interested in. He tossed Calum and Luke remotes and offered Ashton one but he turned it down.

“You can play if you want.” I told him. I didn’t want him to think he couldn’t play because I was here or something stupid like that. Ashton shook his head,

“I only keep that game around for Michael. Plus I still have to give you a tour of the house,” he grinned at me before removing his arm from my waist and grabbing my hand, pulling me up from the couch.

“We’ll be right back guys,” he said to the rest of the boys, though they hardly took notice as they were completely focused on the game they were playing. Ashton rolled his eyes at them before pulling me down the hallway. At the end of it was the front door. On one the left side there was an open space that led to the kitchen. Ashton gestured to it as we passed,

“This is the kitchen, the place where I store all of my most basic necessities. Like food and water and vegemite.” He grinned at me and I giggled before letting him pull me further down the hallway. We stopped at a door on the left which he opened.

“This is supposed to be an office, but I just store all my extra junk in here.” he stated before shutting the door and pulling me back out of the hallway. We crossed the living room where the boys were shouting over the video game and entered another hallway. The door closest to us was open and showed a little bathroom. Ashton knocked on the door frame as we passed,

“Bathroom.” he stated before we got to another door. He opened it and showed me the inside. The walls were covered in foam and the floor had several rugs on it. A drumset sat in the corner of the room.

“This is where I practice drums. I tried to soundproof it so that my neighbors won’t call the cops on me in the middle of the night when I;m having my late night jam sessions.” he grinned at me and I chuckled before he led me back out of the room.

“And last but not least…” he trailed off as we reached the final door at the end of the hallway, “the bedroom.” He threw the door open and gestured for me to enter before him. I walked in and took a look around. It looked like a boys room. It was a little messy, but not nearly as bad as my room. Ashton crossed the room and sat down on the edge of his bed, patting the spot next to him. I plopped down next to him and he laced our fingers together.

“So, what do you think?” he asked, looking around his bedroom. I took one more look around before answering,

“It’s nice. Very charming and boyish.” I grinned. Ashton chuckled,

“I guess that was to be expected.” he said and I laughed. We sat in silence, just looking around his room, before Ashton spoke up again,

“Sorry about the other boys. They told me they were coming over after I invited you. I tried to tell them to go away but that obviously didn’t work out so well.” I chuckled,

“It’s fine. They’re nice guys. I don’t mind.” I smiled at him. Ashton smiled back,

“That’s good. I was worried. You sounded kind of upset over the phone earlier. I didn’t want to upset you anymore.” My whole body tensed up as he said this and I looked down at our hands.

“Uh… yeah. The boys. They're no problem.” I mumbled, stuttering over my words. Ashton furrowed his eyebrows and tucked his fingers under my chin, tilting my face so that my eyes met his.

“Are you okay Violet?” he asked. His voice was full of concern as his eyes searched mine. I nodded, my voice squeaking out a quiet,

Ashton narrowed his eyes at me.

“I don’t believe you.” he said. I gulped before clearing my throat and attempting to speak with more confidence.

“I’m fine Ashton.” I said. Ashton continued to squint his eyes at me. His hand moved from my chin to take my other hand. As he did so he brushed across my large collection of bracelets that I kept on my wrists. He looked down at my hands and his eyes widened.

Shit shit shit.

I need a way to distract him. Like, now.

My eyes scan around the room and I look for something to talk about but my mind draws a blank. He takes my arm in both hands and studies it, his fingers inching towards my bracelets.

Shit fuck shit shit shit!

I look around the room one more time, desperately looking for an escape before realizing that I really have no options here.

But if he finds out, one thing will lead to another and then he’ll know about how fucked up my entire existence is.

Shit fuck fuck fuck shit!

His fingers begin to brush my bracelets aside and I panic. I have to think of something, and fast.

An idea pops into my head, and even though it could end up horrible, it’s my last option here. I’m unsure about it, wondering if this will ruin our relationship, but his fingers grow closer to the now exposed skin on my wrists. Even if he can’t see the faded lines now, he’ll be able to feel them if he runs his fingers across them.

Fuck it.

I take the hand that he’s not holding and cup his cheek. His eyes meet mine and he looks confused before I crash my lips onto his. He sits frozen for a moment and I’m worried that this was a horrible decision. But once his lips start to move against mine I almost want to sigh in relief as my plan begins working. He releases my arm and wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me closer to him. I wrap my now free arm around his neck as I move my other hand from his cheek to his hair. I tangle my fingers in his curls and find myself getting lost in the kiss. What started out as a frantic diversion turned into something much more. Ashton ran his tongue across my bottom lip, asking for entrance. I didn’t hesitate to grant it and moaned as his tongue began to explore my mouth. Ashton pulled me closer to him and I smiled against his lips, letting the kiss last for a bit longer before pulling away, panting for breath.

Ashton stared at me, his eyes wide before his face broke into a grin.

“Well, that was… unexpected.” he chuckled as he tried to catch his breath. I giggled,

“Yeah… sorry.” Ashton smiled at me, his eyes lighting up,

“Don’t apologize. I’ve been wanting to do that since our first date.” He grinned. I smiled shyly and blushed as Ashton rested his forehead against mine. We stayed quiet as our breathing slowed down and I took a second to think about what I had just done.

I’d kissed Ashton Irwin on our second date.

Was this even a date?

I’d kissed Ashton Irwin on a maybe-date. I hadn’t planned on it. In fact I had wanted to wait longer for our first kiss. I felt like I was falling for him too fast already and kissing him would only make it worse. I should be regretting this right now.

But I don’t.

The only thing I feel right now is butterflies in my stomach.

Ashton pressed a soft kiss to the corner of my mouth and I tried to suppress my giggles, failing as a very attractive snorting sound came from my mouth instead. I groaned and leaned away from Ashton, covering my face with my hands and falling back onto the bed so I was lying down with my legs hanging off the end.

“I ruin everything.” I mumbled into my hands. Ashton giggled before I felt the bed sink down next me as he layed back. He slowly removed my hands from my face and grinned at me.

“I thought it was cute,” he said, his eyes twinkling as he smiled at me. I groaned again and he chuckled before leaning forward, letting his lips meet mine. He smiled into the kiss before pulling away and chuckling softly.

“Violet Stone you are just full of surprises.” I grinned at him. Ashton just chuckled again before sitting me up and pulling me up with him.

“Come on, let’s go see what the other boys are doing.” he said. I let him lead me out of his room and back to living room. I let out a sigh of relief as we reached the safety of the other boys.

Hopefully he had completely forgotten about the whole bracelet situation. At least he wouldn’t bring it up in the presence of the other boys.

I cuddled up next to him on the couch and watched as Michael and Luke screamed at the TV while playing Fifa. I crinkled my nose in disgust and Ashton laughed at my reaction before booping the end of my nose. I rubbed the spot where he poked my nose and he just laughed at me before settling back down and watching the other boys scream over video games.

This night has been all over the place. I felt exhausted from the wide range of emotions I’d felt in such a short amount of time. My eyes began to flutter shut as I rested my head on Ashton’s chest and let sleep take over my body.

I had the best sleep of my life that night wrapped in Ashton’s arms.
