Expect the Unexpected ON HOLD

I pulled up in front of Ashton’s house, turning off my car and hopping out, quickly making my way to his front porch. I rapped my knuckles on his front door, crossing my arms around myself as the cold air began to seep through the holes in my sweater. A couple seconds later the door opened, revealing two hazel eyes and a set of dimples.

“Violet!” Ashton shouted excitedly. He was dressed in grey sweats and a black sleeveless
t shirt. I smiled at him, bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet as my legs began to feel the chill. Ashton took notice and opened the door all the way before literally pulling me inside. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders, rubbing up and down as he closed the door behind us.

“Sorry, I didn’t realize it was so cold out,” he said sheepishly. I gave him a small smile,

“It’s no big deal. I’m just a cold person in general, so I’m used to it.” I reassured him. Ashton furrowed his eyebrows and picked up his pace, walking us quickly into what I assumed was the living room. He pointed at the couch,

“Sit,” he commanded before releasing his grip on my shoulders and disappearing down the hall. I plopped down on the couch, still keeping my arms wrapped around myself. Ashton returned moments later with piles of blankets. I laughed at his determined expression as he began tucking blankets all around me until I was buried underneath a mountain of comforters. As soon as Ashton stepped back to look at his work he burst out laughing.

“You look like some sort of sherpa or something!” he exclaimed between giggles. I had no idea what the hell he was talking about, but I couldn’t help but laugh along as his eyes lit up.

“You’re the one who made me look like this!” I faked exasperation and Ashton giggled before plopping down next to me on the couch. I pulled some of the blankets off of me so that I only had one draped across my lap before pushing the rest of the pile off to the side. Ashton shot me a smile before reaching for the remote that sat on the coffee table in front of us.

“Movie?” he asked. I nodded,

“Movie.”

Ashton giggled to himself before putting on a serious expression and deepening his voice,

“Perhaps ‘movie’ could be our always.” he said before bursting into giggles again. I rolled my eyes.

“Did you really just say that?” I asked, chuckling softly. Ashton just smiled widely before turning on the TV and opening Netflix. I inwardly cheered.

Netflix is life.

Ashton flicked through several movies before stopping on Zombieland. He looked at me with his eyebrows raised. I took a moment to consider it. It was more of a black comedy than a horror movie, and I had had some good laughs with this movie in the past. I think I could handle it. I raised my eyebrows to match Ashton’s.

“Zombieland?” I asked. Ashton nodded,

“Zombieland.”

I couldn’t help but giggle before imitating his previous voice, saying,

“Perhaps Zombieland could be our always.”

Ashton’s eyes widened before he burst into laughter, wrapping his arm around me as he pulled me to his side.

“I like you Violet Stone.” he smiled down at me. I grinned back before poking his dimple and responding,

“I like you too Ashton Irwin. Now let’s watch this ridiculous movie.”

Ashton nodded and pressed play, keeping his arm wrapped around me as we waited for the movie to load. Just as the Columbia logo flashed by the doorbell rang. Ashton paused the movie and jumped up from the couch. I frowned a little as his arm left my shoulders, but quickly composed myself as he turned to smile at me.

“Pizza’s here.” he stated before disappearing to go answer the front door. I sat on the couch and waited for him, tucking my legs up underneath me as he returned with four cardboard boxes. I raised my eyebrows.

“Four pizzas?” There was no way we were going to finish that much pizza. Ashton blushed.

“Just in case, you know, we or someone else gets super hungry.” he said, setting the pizzas down on the coffee table. I narrowed my eyes,

“Someone else?” I asked and Ashton chuckled nervously before disappearing down the hallway again.

“Want something to drink? I have Coke!” he yelled down the hall. I called back,

“Coke please! And don’t change the subject!” I heard Ashton chuckle and the sound of glasses clinking before he returned with two glasses of Coke. I thanked him as he handed it to me and took a small sip before opening the top pizza box.

Mm, cheese.

Ashton sat down next to me again, unpausing the movie and grabbing a slice of pizza. I ended up eating five pieces of pizza during the first twenty minutes of the movie before I got too full. Ashton kept going strong until the half hour mark when he’d consumed about eight pieces of pizza. He closed the lid to the box and took a sip of Coke before scooting closer to me and resting his arm on the back of the couch behind me. I smirked at him out of the corner of my eye before leaning towards him slightly, still not touching him. I was close enough so that I could feel the warmth radiating from his body. I heard Ashton hold his breath as he sat completely frozen before he quickly scooted closer and wrapped his arm around my shoulders, tucking me into his side. I snuggled further into him and blushed as I saw him wink at me out of the corner of his eye. He grabbed some of the blanket that was draped over my lap and pulled it to cover his legs as well. It reminded me very much of our first date.

Apparently we were just prone to cuddling in bundles of blankets.

We were close to an hour into the movie when I heard the front door creak open. My whole body tensed and I looked up at Ashton with a concerned expression on my face.

“Did someone just walk in?” I whispered. Ashton looked down at me and nodded, his face held in a relaxed smile. He rubbed his hand up and down my arm in an effort to get me to relax my muscles. It probably would've worked if loud voices didn’t start echoing from down the hall.

“Honey I’m home!” a deep voice yelled and my eyes widened with realization. I knew that voice. I leaned forward slightly to see down into the dark hallway. Ashton shifted his arm so that it was now wrapped around my waist. I shivered a bit as his grip tightened around me and I could hear him chuckle as I blushed. I continued to look down the hallway as the voices grew louder, now accompanied by footsteps as they approached.

I took in a sharp breath as Michael, Calum, and Luke tumbled into the living room laughing amongst each other until their eyes fell on me. They all immediately grew quiet and their eyes shifted between Ashton and me. I was still holding my breath as Calum’s face stretched into a large smile. Ashton grinned back and spoke up, breaking the silence,

“Hey guys. This is Violet. Violet, this is Michael, Calum, and Luke.” He pointed to each person as he said their name. I almost rolled my eyes at the introduction.

As if I didn’t know who they were.

I was quick to snap out of my shocked state and offer the boys a smile,

“Hi,” I waved shyly and felt myself blush. Dammit. I was doing so good with that whole smiling thing, I thought that just for once I wouldn’t be such an awkward individual but no.

The boys all smiled and one by one reached forward to shake my hand.

“Lovely to meet you Violet. We’ve heard so much about you from Ashton.” Calum grinned at me. I felt my cheeks grow even more red as Ashton whined,

“Guys! Really?” The other boys started laughing and I chuckled before leaning back and relaxing in Ashton’s hold. I wrapped my arm around his torso and rested my hand on his ribs. A blush rose to Ashton's cheeks.

Holy shit did I just make Ashton Irwin blush?
…

Holy shit.

The boys were quick to tease Ashton about his reddening face and he whined again before covering his face with his hand. I chuckled before making an attempt to save Ashton from further humiliation.

“If you guys want some pizza there’s plenty here,” I gestured to the coffee table in front of us. “We were just about to finish watching Zombieland if you guys want to watch the last half hour.” I suggested. Michael grinned at me before turning to the other boys,

“I like her.” he said. The boys all grinned and immediately started opening up the pizza boxes, grabbing slices and spreading out across the room. Calum sat down on the other side of me while Luke plopped down in an armchair and Michael sat on the floor, stretching his legs out in front of him. Ashton chuckled at them and pressed play on the remote. We sat quietly watching the movie before he leaned towards me and whispered in my ear,

“Thanks.”

“For what?” I whispered back, my eyes still focused on the movie.

“For saving me from humiliation. I owe you.” I giggled,

“Anytime.”

Ashton left a soft kiss on my cheek before leaning back again, training his eyes on the movie. I waited a second before resting my head on his shoulder. He chuckled softly and I blushed as he pressed another kiss to the top of my head.

We watched the rest of the movie like this. Every once in a while Ashton would turn his head and press another kiss to my hairline before focusing his attention back on the movie. Each time I could feel my cheeks turn pink and butterflies in my stomach. I never wanted this to end.

In the meantime, here's another chapter for all of you. I wrote it while watching the movie Zombieland, so I couldn't not put that in there.
