Year Two

Back Off

Louis' P.O.V.

I glanced around the club, having lost sight of the others. Harry, of course, had been the one to find the club. It was a night club that mainly tourists attended and so most people could speak English. This was a good thing, considering I was currently chatting up a beautiful redhead, something that would've been much more difficult to do in Spanish.

We were sitting at the bar and though it was a little bit hard to hear each other, we were making conversation. As she said something, I spotted Rachel out of the corner of my eye. She was dancing with no one in particular but seemed to be having fun all the same. It was clear she had had quite a few drinks.

I glanced back at the girl, Sara and tried my best to focus on what she was saying. She truly was beautiful. Her eyes were big and brown, while Rachel's were green. Her auburn hair cascaded neatly along her back, while Rachel's fell carelessly around her shoulders. Her lips were large and smooth, while Rachel's were smaller and often chapped from her constant biting on them.

Sara wasn't just aesthetically pleasing, she was witty and funny and gave off an air of sophistication. For someone I had met at a nightclub she was pretty damn amazing.

So why exactly was it that I couldn't help but glance at Rachel? Couldn't help but compare this beautiful to Rachel? I groaned out loud, without thinking and Sara raised her eyebrows. She quickly turned to follow my line of vision and shrugged as she turned back to face me.

"I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea who you're looking at but you're looking at someone" she said with a knowing smile. "Who is she?" She added softly, seeming intrigued rather than upset. I sighed. "I'm sorry, I just.. I just can't get this one girl out of my head" I admitted. Again, she continued to smile. "You did seem pretty preoccupied. Just my luck, the cute ones are always taken" she shrugged, unabashed.

"So who is she? A best friend? An ex-girlfriend? A lover?" She wiggled her eyebrows and I laughed at the word 'lover'.

"An ex I guess.. Although I ruined it before it could really become anything" I confessed, surprise at the ease in which I confided in this stranger. A few drinks could do that I guess. "It's stupid really. It's been a year since we were even together and she has a boyfriend now. Actually up until recently I had a girlfriend too, I just.. I don't know. I thought I was over her. I thought we were just friends now but.." I trailed off, the words sounding stupid even to me.

"But you still care about her" Sara finished. I nodded at her assessment. "Yes" I murmured, knowing she couldn't hear me. Before I had a chance to say anything else I saw Rachel heading our way. She hadn't seemed to notice me, she was only coming for the bar. "That's her" I told Sara, indicating with my head. Sara spotted her and smiled. "Very pretty, you have good taste" to which I rolled my eyes.

"What's her name?" She added. I told her without wondering why she had asked and before I could stop her she had called Rachel over. My stomach twisted at the prospect of Rachel chatting with the girl I had just poured my heart out to.

"Lou! I was looking for you. Gosh, I've managed to lose everyone so I've been dancing alone for a while now. Don't get me wrong, its been fun but I prefer dancing with you" she gushed out, barely pausing for a breath. She was a little unsteady on her feet and I immediately wrapped an arm around her waist loosely for support. "As I've said before, you can not hold your liquor" I teased and she only giggled in response.

It was then that she noticed Sara in front of us and smiled widely. "Ah.. Well I see you're busy here Louis. I'll leave you to it" she winked playfully, immediately set to walk away. Sara however quickly stopped her. "Oh no, I'm actually about to leave. My friend is sick and I've to take her home" she lied effortlessly. "Have a good night though, you two" she added, before leaning over to place a kiss on my cheek. "There's something there, just be patient Louis" she whispered in my ear before pulling back to flash Rachel a smile and then disappearing into the crowd.

"Sorry if I just killed the mood" Rachel bit her lip in an apologetic expression but I just shook my head. "We were only talking. C'mon let's dance" I suggested and without giving her a chance to respond I took her hand and led her into the crowd.

We danced close together but without touching each other. This was okay. Ashton wouldn't mind this, right? It seemed the roles had completely reversed. This time last year Rachel was my girlfriend, with him pining for her. Oh how the tables have turned. However, I didn't want to be him. When Rachel and I were together, he made me incredibly insecure. He always seemed to be around, taking up all of Rachel's time, flirting with her. It was unbearable. I was determined not to be that guy. Rachel was with Ashton, she was happy with Ashton.

Yet, I couldn't help the clench in my stomach as I watched her dance, her body moving sensually in time to the music. I couldnt help the flutter in my stomach as her hand caught my arm to get my attention. I couldn't help the hitch in my breath as her lips met my ear and she whispered that she was going to get another drink and offered for me to come with her.

As I followed her to the bar I realised I was in way too deep here. The way I felt around her was joy and excitement laced with fear and guilt. She was Ashton's girl. I wasn't allowed to feel this way about her. She was his girlfriend, and I wasn't going to mess that up. She was happy with him. It was my time pull away a bit. It was my time to once and for all back off.

For the last chapter of this story before starting the sequel I was wondering if we can possibly have Louis declare his feelings for Rachel and maybe give her a kiss. Please if possible :) Thank you.
