Chapter 23

Calum’s POV

I put on a fancy shirt and black jeans and when Mikey calls me at 9 to come over to Ash’s because we are gonna drink I ask him if Addie and Lucy are already there. They are not.
Addie picks up on the second ring.
“Hello” She answers.
“Are you going to Ash’s to drink?” I ask. Stupid question. Of course Mikey called her.
“Yeah. When are you going?” She asks. I am surprised she didn’t leave it at yes.
“Well, I’m ready now, but I can wait for you guys” I say.
She has been weird with me all week, and I got used to it, so I’ve been just as brutal to her as she has been to me. Being nice right now, was a bit weird.
Mikey asked me on Wednesday if Addie and I have been fighting and I said no, because it’s true. We just kind of…bicker. I kinda hope I talk to her tonight, something I’ve wanted to talk to her about since…well, since this whole I’m-mad-at-you-but-won’t-tell-you-why attitude she’s been having. I’ve been just too scared, or just avoiding it, I guess. Kinda hope alcohol will solve that problem.
“Well, Lucy is doing her hair, but you can come over and wait here” She says. I agree and then we hang up.
I ring the doorbell. And hear Addie’s voice from inside telling me it’s opened. I come in and it smells like hairspray and girl perfume.
“You should lock your doors” I say walking in the kitchen. Addie is leaning on the island, her phone in her hand. She looks stunning. She doesn’t look at me, so I freely explore her body from her shoes, which are a bit higher than the ones last time, her black see-through stockings up to the hem of her skirt, which isn’t tight at all, only a few inches above her knees. It’s midnight blue and it goes to the middle of her waist. She is wearing a black crop-top with short sleeves, and a blue-ish necklace. When I reach her face, I meet her green eyes, and I feel blood rushing to my cheeks. Great.
She says nothing, just shouts at Lucy to hurry up. I want to say something to Addie, but I can’t seem to find the words. Her hair is pinned up, a few loose strands fall around her shoulders. Her make up is simple with light brown eye shadow and dark pink lips. She looks like a rock-star.
“You look really nice” I end up saying.
“Thanks” She says, meeting my eyes. I smile and then Lucy comes in before I can say anything else.
Lucy looks beautiful as well, with a tight red dress and heels higher than the ones Addie is wearing., but she has nothing on Addie. I’m sure Luke would disagree.
“Ready?” I ask her. She nods. Her hair is straight and falls to the middle of her back. She fixes it and nods, walking to the door. I follow them out, both of them putting on their coats, and then we are in my car, and driving to Ash’s.
“What club are we going to?” Addie asks.
“Dunno. You guys made the plans” I answer. She sighs.
When we arrive at Ash’s Luke’s jaw drops. Mikey and I exchange a knowing look.
And then we drink. The atmosphere is relaxed, and Lucy and Luke are in their own bubble, which is really cute.
And when everyone is a little tipsy, I drive us to a club in Sydney. The car ride isn’t that long, since we mostly talk and sing along to songs. Although, it is cramped in the back. Lucy ends up sitting in Luke’s lap, which I doubt he minds. Ash sits in the front and Mikey and Addie are sharing the back seat with Luke and Lucy.
I park the car on the parking lot across the street and we walk towards the club. Muffled music comes from inside and people are outside, waiting to get in. We wait in line for 10 minutes and then it’s finally our turn.
“IDs?” The bouncer asks. Ash is in front of us, and shows his ID. The bouncer nods, and he goes in. Mikey and I show ours, we’re both 18. Addie shows her. Luke sneaks in, as the bouncer looks at Lucy.
“ID please” he says to her. I look at Addie and she freezes.
“Hold on” Lucy says, looking through her purse. And then she takes out an ID. The bouncer looks at it, then back at Lucy.
“You look really young” He says, a bit skeptic.
“Thank you” she says, taking her ID from his hands. And then walks towards us, and he doesn’t stop her. Just like that.
The music is loud, but I still hear Addie ask her how on earth did she get a fake ID.
“Addie, I lived in California for two years. Everyone has fake IDs” Lucy smiles.
Addie shakes her head, and then we are heading to a newly empty high table. Luke says something in Lucy’s ear and she nods. Then He is gone into the crowd. He is buying her a drink. Mikey and me both smile at the same time.

Addie’s POV

Luke walks off, getting Lucy a drink. She looks unfazed by all the attraction she is getting from guys around. The space is big and the dance-floor takes up most of it. There are high tables around us, filled with people, and VIP areas with a lot of girls dressed up, drinking champagne, caressing the chests of men a lot older than them.
“Do you wanna dance?” Mikey says in my ear, as I take off my coat. It’s hot in here.
“Hopefully you don’t hurt anyone” I yell back and he laughs. And then we are moving into the dance floor and we start dancing. My vision is a bit hazy and swirling but it’s the fun and I don’t mind it.
Some weird song is playing, that I’ve never heard of before, and I spot Luke and Lucy dancing as well. Their bodies are much closer than Mikey and mine. I point them out to him and he laughs.
“Luke is so into her" He yells in my ear and I nod.
After the song ends, we decide to get drinks so we move over to the bar area. Mikey buys me some vodka cocktail, and get something similar for himself. We walk through the crowd of people to our high table. Calum is talking with some girl in a very tight dress and curly hair. Ash is talking with, what I assume, is her friend. He looks very happy when he sees Mikey and me. The girls don’t though.
They introduce themselves, and I immediately forget their names. And then after a moment of staring at me, Calum invited the curly haired girl to dance with him. They disappear into the crowd, as Luke and Lucy come out from it. Calum looks back and our eyes meet.
I feel anger and frustration, at both him and the girl. Am I jealous? What gives him the right to dance with some random girls?!
I know we are not dating, or together, or even flirting, but I just am overwhelmed by the jealousy, and all the reason and logic floats away from me. I down my drink, and take Mike by the hand, dragging him back into the crowd.
I spot Calum and the girl immediately. She is grinding on him, oh my god! GET A ROOM U DISGUIST ME!!!
I turn away, so my back is to them, and then I see Mikey, and he is looking at me weirdly.
“What?” I try to shout over the music. I don’t think it works, but Mikey reads from my lips.
He just shakes his head and smiles. And then we are dancing. And I inch closer to him, and he doesn’t seem to move away, and then our bodies are almost touching completely. I turn to look at Calum, and I see him still dancing with the girl. Our eyes lock, and he smiles at me, and then faces the girl and kisses her. He kisses her. ON THE MOUTH! THEY SUCK EACHOTHER FACES!! I AM GONNA THROW UP.
Overwhelmed, I step back.
“You okay?” Mikey asks, catching me by my shoulder. I manage to nod.
“I think I’m gonna be sick” I say. I don’t feel the alcohol climbing to my throat, but there is still something there. Like a lump. Am I gonna cry? Is that what’s happening here?
“You need air” Mikey says, and then he leads me out. I turn back and see Calum staring at me. The girl is kissing his neck, but he seems unfazed. He stares at me, and then glances at my hand in Mikey’s and his smile fades.
We get out from the back entrance, where all the smokers are gathered. And we get out further, to escape the smoke.
“You okay?” He asks me. The whole earth is swirling around me. I lean against the wall of the club. The music is a bit faded, or maybe my brain just won’t interpret it anymore. There is the annoying buzzing you get right after you go from a very loud to a quieter place. Mikey puts one hand next to my head, leaning on the wall again.
I nod, not able to answer his question in words. He smells of alcohol and sweat and boy perfume.
I look at him. His hair is silver in the light outside, and his eyes are a very light blue and his pupils are dilated.
“You sure?” He asks. I think of Calum and that girl. Their bodies were glued to eachother, and then their mouths did the thing where they…ugh! I can’t even think of the kiss.
My mind is clouded, two and two come together and next thing I know my arms around Mikey’s neck and I am kissing him. His body stiffens and he kisses me back. He tastes like sweet alcohol. His lips are soft and move with mine in sync. And for a moment, I forget about Calum, but then, gently, he pushes me away.
“Addie” He whispers. I open my eyes, to find his hidden under his eyelashes. “Don’t do something you’ll regret tomorrow”
I say nothing. He backs his head a bit and looks at me.
“What do you mean?” I ask. I cannot grasp the fact that I am not kissing him anymore. Not sure if I like him like that, but I can’t deal with that right now.
“I know you like Calum” He says. I stare at him.
“So?” I ask. Wait, did I just admit that I like Calum?! “Don’t you like me?” I ask.
He lets out a soft laugh, more to himself than to me. But I get a bit offended. Why doesn’t he like me?!
“I don’t know. I think so?” He says, meeting my gaze. “But so does Calum, and he’s my best friend so-“
“Wait, what?!” I stop him. He looks at me a bit confused “Calum told you he likes me?” He smiles.
“He doesn’t have to.” Mikey answers. “I see the way he looks at you.”
“He doesn’t like me” I say. I’ve never actually admitted that to myself, that Calum doesn’t like me. I’ve been to busy kind of denying that I like him.
Mikey laughs. His hot breath hits my face, and then I realize that I’m actually freezing outside. I shudder.
“Addie, trust me. He is so into you” Mikey says, his voice lower.
“They why was he making out with that girl inside?” I ask, and the lump in my throat comes back. And I think Mikey and I both understand at the same time why I kissed him, but he doesn’t say anything about it.
“I don’t know” He says, looking down “I think he is…jealous?” He says unsure.
“Why would he be jealous? He was the one with the girlfriend, and then now making out with a random girl. What is he jealous of?!” I ask, and Mikey looks at me. And then it sinks in. “He is jealous of you?” I ask, still kind of accepting it. Everything is still spinning. My brain cannot grasp the information. “But…but why?” I ask.
“Well we hang out a lot, and we text a lot, and I slept over that one night, and Calum drove me home, so I think he got the wrong idea and…I don’t know man, you were kissing me a minute ago” He says, shaking his head.
I never thought he was jealous of Mikey. I just thought he was being moody and weird. But...well it makes sense. I’ve been dancing with Mikey all night.
After a while, we go back inside. My mind is a bit blown. It would probably make more sense when I am sober and I’ll feel stupid for not noticing, but right now, it’s like the biggest plot twist of my life. Kinda stupid. Kinda don’t care.
When we come back to the table, Ash is laughing at something Lucy is explaining. Luke comes shortly with three shots. The three of them take a shot each. We reach the table just in time for Calum to show up with the girl. She is all over him. Hugging him, and whispering in his ear. He however doesn’t seem that much into her. Her friend is gone, to Ash’s convenience.
I cannot take my eyes off of Calum for the next five minutes.
“You want a drink?” Mikey asks me. I nod and he squeezes my shoulder before he goes to the bar. And I see Cal. And he noticed that squeeze. He clenches his jaw, and I want to explain that there is nothing between Mikey and I, apart from the desperate kiss, on my part, outside.
Mikey brings tequila shots for him and me, and I down the drink very fast. And then I’m turning and walking, well, swaying, towards Calum and stand in front of him. The girl looks at me in surprise, as if I am taking something of hers. I get ahold of the back of Calum’s head and he lowers it.
“I thought you wanted to dance?” I say into his ear. He looks at Mikey, and I can’t see what Mikey does but, then Calum looks at me. And he is not moving.
Am I being rejected? AGAIN!? TWICE IN ONE NIGHT?!
The girl on his arm laughs, as if she won a battle. I stare at Calum. And then I start to move away, when I feel a pressure on my hand. I turn around and see Calum. He lets go of the girl and then he leads me to the dance floor. My stomach does a flip. I can only imagine the death stare the girl sends me, because all I see right now is Calum.

Calum’s POV

I face her as soon as I find a spot in on the dance floor, and our bodies immediately sync. Just like at John’s birthday party, we dance, and we loose track of the songs. One, two, five, eight. I don’t know how many. But I don’t feel tired, and neither does she, and I can’t get enough of her. My hands are mostly on the small of her back, sometimes brushing the skin under the hem of her crop top. Every time they do, she pulls at my hair a bit. And I try to control myself, not to kiss her, because then I won’t want to stop just there.
My heart thumps in mu chest, and I can almost feel hers as well. The faces around us blur, irrelevant, forgotten. It’s just Addie and me.
Her hair comes loose at one point, and my hands automatically travel to the back of her neck, getting lost in the soft curls. Our foreheads touch, and I can feel her breath on my mouth, and our lips are inches apart, and I want to lean in, and kiss her so badly.
“Addie!” Mikey her on the shoulder. I want to punch him so badly right now. But he looks incredibly worried. And I re-evaluate my decision to punch him. “Lucy ran into Ashley.” And then he is getting lost in the crowd, where he came from.
Addie looks at me, apologetically, and I grab her hand.
“Let’s go” I say, and she leads the way in front of. Her hair sways behind her head, and I can’t concentrate on anything else but her whole presence in front of me.
