Chapter 24

Addie’s POV

I lead Calum to our spot, and I see Lucy. Her face is in a scowl; Luke is behind her a bit confused as to what is happening. Ashley is in Lucy’s face, Marissa standing behind Ashley, Stephen and Chris by her side. I almost run to Lucy. Her dress is wet, and I can only imagine how that happened. * Cough * Ashley * cough *.
She has her hair in a ponytail, hanging behind her head.
“Consider yourself lucky I didn’t pour it over your head” I hear Ashley say. Lucy is about to explode.
“Hey! Hey, what’s going on?” I intervene.
“This doesn’t concern you, you little slut” Ashley says to me.
“OH HEEELL NO!” Lucy takes a step, but Luke takes her hand and literally pulls her back. My head is spinning.
“What did you say to me?” I say, inching closer. Calum says my name, Mikey repeating it.
“You heard me” She says. “I heard about your little strip in Chris’s room at Stephen’s party two weeks ago. I know everything that went on in that room” She says, a condescending smile on her face.
“And what exactly went on in there?” I say, crossing my arms in front of my chest.
“Let’s just say…your hands were full” Marissa comments from behind her. My brain shuts down and I think I’m going to jump at them, tear them apart, but instead I laugh. I surprise myself.
They raise their eyebrows. I turn to Lucy and I can’t stop laughing. Lucy is glaring at Ashley. She sidesteps me and I can’t stop her because I am laughing. I can’t believe that Chris was too embarrassed to say that he was tripping on his underwear when I ran away from the room.
“You, Barbie, and your little Ken dolls better step back, before I seriously get angry” Lucy says. She is so close to Ashley, that Ashley steps back to gain personal space. Calum and Mikey share a concerned look. Luke is biting his lip, and I don’t see Ash anywhere.
“Alright, alright” I say pulling Lucy back. She doesn’t protest. “Lucy, seriously, no need to waste time on them. It’s sad, really” I say, finally calm from laughing.
Ashley tries to pull of an I win smile and the leaves, but we all know she lost this one.
“That girl is dancing on my temper.” Lucy says, taking a shot from the table. She looks at Luke and flashes him a flirtatious smile. “You look scared?” She says.
“That was badass” He says, in awe. Calum, Mikey and me laugh but they don’t seem to notice. She then takes his hand and they go dancing. Ash appears from nowhere.
“Where did you go?” I ask him, shouting.
“Bathroom” He says. “Did I miss anything?” We all share a look and start laughing.
“Tell you about it later” Michael taps him on the shoulder. They leave to get a drink and I check my phone.
“Do you wanna dance?” Calum says in my ear. It sends goose bumps everywhere. I check the time and it’s almost 2am.
“I have to go soon. I left a note for my mom telling her I’m out, but it’s almost 2am.” I shout in his ear. He nods.
We talk for ten minutes or so, I notice the girl he made out with glaring at me with her friend. Ash and Mikey comes back with beers, and a couple of minutes after two, I send Calum to get Lucy and Luke. He comes back pretty fast, Lucy and Luke right behind him, laughing.
“We have to leave, Lucy” I shout.
“I know, I know” She says. And then we are walking out. Calum helps me walk a bit, because I am swaying. We get to the car and then I sit in the front.
“Can we stop and McDonald’s to eat?” Mikey says, getting in the back, Ashton following him.
“Yeah, I’m starving” Lucy says, getting on Luke’s lap. They are talking in the back, sharing what they want to eat.
“Are you sure you can drive?” I ask Calum. He smiles at me.
“Have a little faith” He says, and then we are off. We drive to the nearest McDonald’s and we all get food from the drive in. I get a cheeseburger without onions.
We drive home and eat in the car. We drop off Ash first. Then Mikey. Then Luke. He kisses Lucy on the cheek and then she get up from his lap and sits on the seats. He gets out.
“It was soooo fuuun” Lucy says, stretching. “And I am soooo tireeed” I laugh. “By the way, I told my mom I’m sleeping over at your place.” She says, and then she is asleep.
“You drive like an old man” I say to Calum, laughing. He laughs, but doesn’t speed up.
“Did you have fun?” He asks me, grinning.
“Yeah” I say. “Did you?” I ask as well. He bites his lower lip, and then I remember him kissing that girl, and the fact that I kissed Michael. I completely forgot. Shit!
He answers, but I don’t hear his answer because I’m lost in my own head. And then he parks his car in the driveway. And we’re sitting in the silence. My ears are buzzing, and my mind is still a bit hazy, but I’m more sober right now.
“Are we gonna wake Lucy?” He asks me, bringing me back to reality.
“Let her sleep in the car” I joke, and then turn around. “Lu! Get up, we’re home!” She grunts but then she is trying to open the door, and mumbles something about her legs hurting.
My feet hurt like hell when I step out of the car. I take out my heels and start walking barefoot. The cold air is welcomed.
“Do you need help?” Calum asks, locking his car. I look at Lucy. She is hurling on the grass. Great. Just…great.
“I think she might need help…” I say, walking towards Lucy. Calum joins me. My feet are numb and frozen on the grass.
“Lucy, be quiet” I whisper.
“Let’s get you inside” Calum says, helping her stand on her feet. I open the door and he brings her in.
“Guys, I’m good, I’m good” She says. We lead her in the bathroom and she sits next to the toilet “Seriously. I’m all good. Imma sleep here, though…” Calum laughs, and I hit him. He goes out of the bathroom, and I follow him.
“You okay?” He asks me. He is standing waaaay too close to me. I kinda like it.
“Yeah” I say, looking up at him. His eyes are dark and shielded under his eyelashes.
“Alright then. Goodnight” He says. His voice a whisper. And then he leans in and kisses my cheek before he goes. Even after he closes the door behind him, I stand in the middle of my room, my cheek burning where he kissed it. And then I remember dancing with him and my stomach does the thing where it feels like butterflies are flying inside. I lie on my bed and close my eyes, and I see Calum’s staring at me, and his hands on my waist, and I curl up, giddy and feeling so tired.

I wake up in the same position I went to sleep. I am still in the clothes from yesterday. The moment I sit up, the whole room goes around me once, twice, and then I am really dizzy. I manage to get to my bathroom and splash some water on my face. It helps a little bit. Not a lot, though. I notice Lucy lying on the floor. I gently kick her with my foot and she gets up, only to go sleep on my bed instead.
I strip from my clothes, take a shower, brush my teeth and put on a big t-shirt and one of my mom’s old cropped sweats. My room smells of alcohol, so I open the door and a gush of cold wind comes in, along with a little bit of sunshine. I sit on the threshold, and put my bare feet on the grass outside. I check my wristwatch, and it’s almost noon. I slept through half the day.
Hangover is a bitch. I spend the whole noon and afternoon craving junk food. Lucy is in and out of sleep all the time. She gets up to eat, and then goes to nap again. At around 5, when I make another trip to the kitchen, the doorbell rings. My mom is out with my aunt, and I don’t see or hear Aggie around. I walk to the door and when I open it, Ashley, Marissa and Chris stand in front of me. They look just as disguised as I feel.
“Ugh” I grunt and close the door.
“Excuse you” Ashley says, bargaining in. I don’t pay attention.
“Aggie is not home.“ I say crossing my arms
“We know” Marissa rolls her eyes, walking in the living room “She told us to wait here. She’s on her way”
“Can you like…wait outside?” I say. Chris gives me an once-over. I grunt again.
“I don’t want to get hypothermia” Ashley says, taking her shoes off, and following Marissa.
“Kinda surprised you know that word” I say. Not that it’s a big word, or a word I don’t expect her to know. I just like to piss her off.
“You know, that little cousin of yours…Leanne-“ Ashley continues, but I cut her off.
“Her name is Lucy.” I say.
“Yeah, whatever-“ She rolls her eyes, but I cut her off again.
“What about her?” I say, stepping forwards. I am in a protect-my-cubs kind of attitude right now.
“She really needs to learn her place” She answers me.
“And you are going to tell her where her place is?” I ask, raising an eyebrow.
“At the bottom” She nods, as if proud “Right next to you”
Marissa snorts and Chris laughs. I roll my eyes.
“You really need to get over yourself, “ I say. And then I’m walking to my room, my head aching, and not from the hangover.
Not even a minute passes, when my door opens. Chris.
“You need to teleport yourself out of my face” I say.
“Hey, hey, I’m not doing anything” He says, putting his hands up. My heart starts to beat a bit faster. He glances at Lucy, who is asleep on my bed.
“I am not in the mood to deal with you. Leave” I say and push him out the door. He grabs my wrist, a little too tightly, and I fight the urge to flinch.
“Or what?” He says. I hear shuffling on the bed, and then Lucy’s voice.
“Is this a nightmare?” She says, looking at Chris, squinting, I assume.
He says nothing. He just lets go of my wrist and walks outside, string at me with a predatory smirk. Shivers go down my spine.
I close the door with force, rubbing my wrist.
“What the fuck is he doing here?” Lucy says, pushing her hair back. It’s a tangled mess.
“Marissa, Ashley and him are waiting for Aggie. This is what I have to live with. “ I say.
“You okay?” She asks me, concerned.
“Yeah, don’t worry about it” I say and she nods. She then proceeds to take a shower and when she comes out she puts on my clothes.
“Sorry you guys had to wait” Aggie says, coming in from the front door. And then we hear yapping and laughing and what not from the living room. Lucy starts braiding her wet hair, and I sit on my laptop. After a while we hear more distinguishable words from the kitchen.
Lucy and I turn our attention to them as son as we hear them whispering. It’s like, if they talked in a normal tone, we wouldn’t paid any attention, but now that they are whispering and hiding something most likely, we exchange a look and stop whatever we were doing.
“Do you think Calum and Addie are together?” Ashley whispers eagerly.
“Ugh, even he won’t go that low. And stop mentioning him in front of Aggie.” Marissa says, opening a can of soda “It’s bad enough that Addie is hanging out with him-“
“Not to mention their stupid cousin. Ugh, I can’t stand her. Who does she think she is?” Ashley cuts her off.
“Shut up about her. We’ll deal with her another day” Marissa says. “And stop talking about Calum in front of Aggie, got it?”
“Ugh, fine” And then they are going away.
Lucy and I exchange confused looks.
“Can they get a life?” Lucy says, and continues to braid her hair. I look at my door. Can they get out of my house, please?
