Dreams vs. Reality

Chapter Thirty-Six

Amber’s POV:

I woke up with a pounding head and an upset stomach. My eyes slowly fluttered open, seeing Harry’s sleeping face directly in front of me, his arm brings me closer to him, snuggling into me. Where am I? The feeling in my stomach comes back, telling me to quickly locate the bathroom. With the door already open across the room, I remove Harry from me as quickly but gently as possible, rushing in and heading to the toilet, immediately throwing up. What the hell did I eat? I continue to vomit for a couple more minutes, before flushing the toilet. God, it reeks. I stand up and head to the sink to rinse my mouth.

“Amber?” I hear Harry call out. I spit out the water I had in my mouth before responding.

“In here.” I respond, soon taking in more water into my mouth. I hear his feet come in, padding against the tiled floor as he comes closer to me.

“Are you okay?” He asks, leaving a hand on my back. I spit the water out again, surely hoping that there’s nothing in my mouth.

“Yeah.” I turn to face him, seeing him in his boxers. Only his boxers. From the corner of my eye I look in the room to see my clothes on the floor. I look down at myself to see me in different clothes, most likely Harry’s. Wait. “What happened last night?” I slowly asked, raising my head to look at him in the eyes, which widened. Did we have sex last night? Am I pregnant?? God, my family is going to kill me...

“We didn’t do what you think, I swear.” He starts, saying it much louder than I anticipated, making my head pound, but a relief in my soul.

“Indoor voices, please Harry.” I mutter, massaging my head.

“Sorry…” He takes my head in his hands and places a kiss on my forehead, soothing the pain.

“So, if we didn’t do it… Then what happened? How did I end up in your clothes?” I ask him once he pulled away from me.

“Well, somebody decided to get piss drunk last night, thinking they could handle it. Obviously they were wrong.” He smirked at me. What?

“I got drunk?!" I exclaimed, regretting it right after when my head began to pound. "I drank alcohol?” I asked. There’s no way. I promised myself that I wouldn’t, especially after what happened to my dad.

“That’s what it takes to get drunk, sweetheart.” He chuckles, leaving the room, soon returning with a glass of water and some Advil.

“Sarcasm isn’t appreciated, thank you very much.” I cross my arms at him. He smirks at me.

“Don’t get sassy on me, now. Here, this should help.” He hands me the medicine that I gladly took, soon returning the empty glass to him.

“But that doesn’t explain how I ended up in your clothes.” I question as he sets down the glass on the counter and he goes through the cabinets, soon pulling out a brand new toothbrush and handing it to me. “Thank you.”

“Well, when we got here I thought you wouldn’t want to sleep in those, so I offered you these.” He gestures to what I am wearing. “You even said it yourself, you were glad to get out of those.” He states before taking his toothbrush and putting it into his mouth.

“Okay…” I said. I waited a few moments before asking my next question. “Did you see me change?” I ask quietly. He quickly chokes, spitting out the foamy mess in his mouth after pulling out his toothbrush.

“Uhm..” He says before clearing his throat.

“You did, didn’t you?” I asked, astonished with my eyes wide.

“No, no! It was by accident, I swear.” he holds up his hands. I can’t believe he saw me. How could I have been so careless?

“Oh my God…” I say, placing the toothbrush on the counter before walking out the door and sitting on the bed, gripping the edge of the bed on both of my sides.

“Amber…” I hear him run around in the bathroom before coming in and sitting next to me.

“Is there anything else that I should know?” I ask without looking up at him.

“Well…” Great, there’s more. Maybe I shouldn't have had asked. “You did think that we were gonna, you know... “ He trails off.

“And?”

“And you were okay with it, just warning me that you haven’t done it before.” Of fucking course. “But I didn’t do anything, I would never take advantage of you like that. Ever.” He quickly adds. I bury my head in my hands in shame. What the hell is wrong with me?

“Anything else?” I mutter through my hands.

“Uh, when we left the bar yesterday you wanted to go out for some ice cream, but I said no since I was still pissed off at the bloke that-- never-mind.” He gets up and starts to walk away, but I quickly reach out and grabbed him by his wrist.

“No. What happened with the guy?” I asked, tugging him back so he stands in front of me. He shakes his head.

“It’s better off that you forget it.” He says coldly before getting out of my grip and walking out the bedroom door. Did I do something wrong? I look down at my hands on my lap, did I do something with another guy? So this is what it feels like to forget what happened the night before… Harry mentioned a bar. Wait, El and I went to a bar. Did something go wrong, having him pick us up? All I know for sure is that these hangovers suck.

I get up from the bed and head back to the bathroom, brushing my teeth and taking care of essentials. Once I finished, I debated on joining Harry, wherever he went. Since I know for sure that this isn’t my hotel room, since it doesn’t have any of my stuff, I am probably at either Harry’s or one of the other guy’s hotel room. I don’t know if they share one or they pair up.

I decided to take off Harry’s clothes and put mine’s back on, knowing that I’m probably going to have to leave anyway. He seems really mad at me. I should actually call a taxi now, actually. I look around the room to find my phone on my night stand. Putting in the pass-code the screen opens with my contacts, the name ‘Andrew’ on the top of my list. Who’s Andrew? I open the contact to see a number similar to Harry’s, meaning that it belongs to someone in the U.K.

Ignoring the contact, I scroll down to find one of the taxi’s that the hotel has provided me with, and call for one. Not knowing the address, I tell the man on the line to please hold as I find out my address. Making sure that I have my belongings, I walk down a hall, hoping that it can get me somewhere. I was actually surprised to see the whole gang in the kitchen, where Harry was cooking breakfast for them.

“Amber, good morning! How are you holding up?” Louis asks me quietly as he approaches me slowly for a hug. Everyone looks up and greets me with hushed voices.

“Uh, good Lou. Bit of a headache that’s all.”

“Did you throw up?” He asks me. I nod. “Did Harry give you medicine?” I nod.

“Got some Advil.”

“Good, good. What do you want for breakfast? Harry’s cooking.” He asks, motioning me to the kitchen where Harry refused to look at me. Yeah, something happened. Maybe it had something to do with Andrew… Maybe I can get some answers from him since I know I won’t be getting any from Harry.

“No, no it’s okay. I’m actually going to be on my way. What’s the address here?” I ask him, not wanting the man to be waiting on the phone for a long while. He looks at me in confusion.

“Why?” He asks.

“Because I’m calling a taxi and my stuff is in my hotel room? Breakfast should be starting soon over there, since it’s already 9 am. And also I need to charge my phone.” I show him my phone that was on low battery and the phone call.

“Didn't Harry charge your phone for you?” I shake my head. “Harry? Were you really going to let her phone die? You arse…” He mutters at him, and Harry didn’t pay any attention, making my insides clench up. He is definitely mad. “Hmm. He seems pissed.” He whispers. I nod my head, already feeling like I am going to tear up. I don’t even know why he’s mad... “Come with me, we can go find out.” He says, turning me around, getting a jacket that was left on the couch.

El came over and picked out some of the bags that were sitting by the door from our shopping day yesterday. I hugged her and thanked her for a wonderful bonding time, before waving goodbye to the other three guys that were still being nice to me before walking out the hotel-room door with Louis.

“Do you know why he’s mad?” He asks, pressing the door for the elevator. I shake my head.

“He was fine when we woke up. He started telling me some things that happened last night that were pretty embarrassing, since I don’t remember anything at-”

“Wait you don’t remember anything that happened last night at the bar?” He cuts me off. I shake my head. “Well, in that case, I did win the chugging challenge. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” He states solemnly as the elevator doors open, both of us stepping in.

“Chugging challenge?” I question.

“Don’t worry about it.” He shrugs it off, pushing the button for the lobby. “Was there anything else?” He asks, changing the subject.

“Yeah, he said that I asked for ice cream on our way out from the bar,”

“How original.” He chuckles, making me roll my eyes.

“Anyway, he said no because he was still pissed at some ‘bloke’ before cutting himself off and saying ‘never-mind’. I tried to get him to tell me but he said that it was better for me to forget, and he said it in a rude way before walking out.”

“So he left you in the room?” I nod. “Wow. What an arse.” He shakes his head, dropping the bags he had on the floor.

“But, what if I did something wrong?” I pondered out loud. Louis scoffs.

“Doubt it, love. You wouldn’t hurt his feelings on purpose, let alone hurt a fly.” He assures me. But why does something feel wrong? “Just give Harry time to think about it, he will come to his senses soon and he will come by your door the moment he does. I have your address. He will feel like an arse, trust me.” He smiles at me, making me smile back. The door opens with a ding, opening up to the lobby. We step out and find the front desk, where there were already Directioners waiting.

“Jesus, they never take a break, don’t they?” I ask as they quickly approach us.

“Never.” He chuckles. They start to crowd around Louis, asking for autographs and selfies, pushing me out. I decide to leave them there and check that the man is still on the line, so much for not letting him wait so long. I apologize and based on what he heard, he was definitely okay with it. I gave him the address and told me that he would be here in about 8 minutes, so I take the stuff that Louis dropped and walk to the front door where paparazzi were already waiting, taking tons of pictures.

“Sweetie, look over here!” One of them shouted.

“Amber, darling, were you spending the night with Harry?” Said another.

“Did you guys have make-up sex?” Okay… What kind of question is that?

“What?” I finally said.

“Did Harry tell you about him and Jessica the other day?” I shook my head, but before I could get a response I was being tugged back inside, the paparazzi were smart enough to stay outside.

“Amber, why the hell did you leave me alone back there?” Louis pouted once we were safely inside.

“I wanted to give you space with your fans. Besides, the cab was still on the phone so I didn’t want him to wait any longer.” I explained.

“Hmm. Alright. But next time at least tell me you were going to walk away, some of them wanted to take pictures with you. I turned to call you over but you were gone. Don’t leave like that again, okay? Especially walking out to a flood of early bird paparazzi.” He said in a more serious tone. I nodded.

“Sorry, Tommy.” I said, looking down at my feet. He placed his hand on my shoulder, which made me look back up again.

“It’s alright. Now, let’s go take those photos, huh?” He says with a smile. I nod and walk back to the patiently waiting group of girls with their phones ready. We took a couple of photos, and even signed a couple things before I got a call from the taxi company.

“Hello?”

Ms. Hudson? There are too many paparazzi outside, so I am making my way through the back, if you want to meet me there.” He explained.

“Of course. I will be out there shortly. Thank you so much.”

It’s my job. Don’t worry.” He says happily. Thank God. I hang up the phone and tell Louis what happened. He walked with me to the taxi and loaded my stuff into the trunk. It was cloudy and the wind was picking up.

“Alright, that’s everything, hopefully.” Louis says as he closes the trunk.

“Thanks, Lou. You’re the best.” I say before hugging him. He hugs me back, rocking us from side to side. “I will have El go through the other stuff just in case, and if there is something there that is yours she and I will swing on by to your place and drop it off. You sure you don’t want to stay?” He asks me. I nod my head.

“Alright. And like you said, he needs time to think about it. I don’t want to make him more mad than he already is.” I shrug.

“Of course. I will text you if anything pops up. And if you have anything to ask, text me as well, got it?” I nod.

“Thanks Lou.” I will definitely ask him what the paps meant by Jessica and Harry. Louis opens the back door for me and I climb in, soon shutting it behind me. Louis asks for the window to be down and the driver does so.

“Be careful on the roads with this one, she’s special to us.” He says before giving him the address to my hotel and pays for the trip. The driver nods and puts the car into drive. I wave goodbye to Louis as we pull out of the back and out to the main roads.

“He really cares about you, doesn’t he?” The driver asks me, looking in the rear-view mirror. I nod.

“He’s like my best friend. My first guy best friend, actually. I’m glad to have him around.” I smile.

“It’s always good to have friends like those. They can really help you out in times of need. I used to have friends like those, you know.” He goes on telling me about his early years of high school, soon just getting to know each other.

“Your accent sounds American, Ms. Hudson, are you not from here?”

“Amber, and that is correct, I am from America. I came to visit him and the others.”

“How long are you here for?”

“About two weeks.”

“First time?”

“Yes.” I smile.

“Hmm. Sounds like you will be traveling a lot then.” We pull up to the hotel, as rain starts to pour. “You can head inside, I will bring your stuff in.” He says as he brings the car to the front of the hotel, putting it in park.

“Thank you sir.” I thank him before running out and safely inside, only getting mildly wet. He comes in shortly after, leaving the items by my feet. He then hands me a slip of paper. “What’s this?” I ask, looking at the sheet of paper with a number on it.

“My work phone. In case you need a ride somewhere, have them send Joshua McCoy. I will drive you free of charge, just to welcome you.”

“Oh, no Mr. McCoy,-”

“Joshua.” He corrects me.

“Joshua, I couldn’t.”

“Please, don’t hesitate. You are actually the first person that I have drove in my 20 years of driving that was actually nice to me. Don’t want to miss that.” He smiles.

“Thank you, Joshua.” I thank him God know how many times that has been.

“Good day, Ms. Amber.” He curts before walking out into the rain and driving off.

I pick up my bags and carry them to my hotel room, plopping them down on my bed and pulling them out and placing them in a separate pile in the drawers. When that was done I head into my bathroom that was attached to the bedroom with some pj's, since I don't plan on leaving, and take a quick shower, finding the most unbelievable thing on me. There was a finger sized bruise near the bottom of my spine. What the fuck happened last night? My mind flashed blank, and I could feel myself dropping to the floor, the water cascading down my back.

I find the ladies room and step inside, finding an empty stall and doing my business. After finishing up I flush and walk to the sink to wash my hands. Taking the bubbly soap in my palm of my hand, I begin washing my hands. Something moved from the corner of my eye, making me look up, looking straight into my reflection, unprepared to see the man standing behind me. I jumped and gasped loudly, quickly turning around to make sure that it wasn’t just a figment of my imagination. He was real.

“Hello, beautiful. You seem new here. First time?” He asks me in a low voice. I gulp and silently nod.

“You do understand that this is the ladies room, yes?” I ask him, not liking the situation. He nods.

“I’m willing to break the rules for a beauty like yourself.” He says, looking at me up and down.

“Sure.” I look away, walking to the air dryer and drying off my hands.

The loud noise of the blower prevented me from hearing his footsteps coming close to me, making me unaware of his close proximity. I felt his hands caress my waist, instantly making me scream. I don’t like this. He grabs me by my wrists and pin me down to the wall, the dryer turning itself off automatically.

“Amber? Are you in there?” I hear my favorite voice say through the door.

“So, Amber huh?” He whispers in my ear, sending chills down my spine. “What a wonderful name.” He presses himself against me, leaving no air in my lungs.

“Babe? You okay?” He says.

“Don’t tell anyone that I was here. Got it?” The man tells me. I found the strength to push him back and kick him in the shin before bursting through the door, crashing into a body and immediately seeing the worried look on Harry’s face.

I awoke with a gasp, finding myself on my bathroom floor. The rest of the night flowed through my head, from my return to the the table, to sleeping on Harry last night. I turn the water cold and splash my face in it. I got out re-dressed and headed downstairs to the dining area to have some breakfast, not wanting that to actually happen.

Picking out certain fruits and placing them into my bowl, I grow more hungry, really regretting on the choice to leave them as Harry was cooking breakfast. He’s only cooked for me once and that was on my birthday. I make my own coffee and french toast before finding a place to sit down and eat it. This is even giving me a good chance to find out if what I thought happened last night was actually true. I pull out my phone and find Andrew’s contact, already seeing that he left a message from last night.

From: Andrew:
Can’t wait to see you again, beautiful ;) Maybe next time you shouldn't bring your boyfriend, I got a beating from him in the bathroom afterwards. x

The fuck? I quickly respond to him.

To: Andrew:
What happened last night?

A couple minutes later I got a response.

From: Andrew:
You mean, you don’t remember?

To:Andrew:
I have an idea, but I need clarification. Now answer the question.

After a couple minutes of no response, I finish up my breakfast and head back upstairs. Literally, he could be writing about anything, and could even be lying. I take the time to text Louis what happened in my shower, and that I was getting something from this Andrew guy soon. He told me to send him whatever Andrew sends me as his reply to the topic, no questions asked.

A couple hours pass and I get no response from him, so I might as well clean up a little bit. I put away my morning clothes and tidy up my suitcase that was opened. With still time to spare, I turn on the TV, flipping through channels before finding the movie Up on Disney Channel. When the house goes up in the air, my phone rings, with a message from Andrew.

From: Andrew:
Well, it all started when you and your friend were in our way to a, certain event, when Charles was all soft and wanted to make up for bumping into you. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you. You went to the bathroom and your phone fell out, it was on still. I decided to put my number in there, just in case and return it to you. When you walked out of the stall I knew I had to do something, your curves put me in a trance. What happened was that I wanted to feel your curves, but you acted afraid, which only made me want you more. I pinned you against the wall, but then the arse you call your lover interrupted us, so I let you push me away, but I didn’t expect you to kick me, and you still ran out. I even almost forgot about your phone, so I returned it to you. I went to the bathroom later on and had a chat with your lover, and it ended up in a fist fight soon with you leaving right after. So yeah. That’s what happened.

I quickly send him a thank you, before sending it to Louis, not believing what I just read. I’m actually crying now. Where was my defense?

From: Andrew:
Anytime, babe. ;)

To: Andrew:
Stop calling me babe. I’m not your babe. And don’t call me beautiful. Don't call me anything. Delete my number, I don’t want to talk to you. Have a good day, sir.

He stopped texting me, which was good. I was now lying down on my bed, waiting for Louis’ reply which came a few minutes later.

From: Tommy:
I don’t even know how to respond to that… I did show Harry though and he is walking around the place feeling like an arse. I’m going to send him on your way as we speak. Told you ;)

To: Tommy:
You were right. Thank you.

From: Tommy:
Of course I was, when am I not? :P Hope you guys work it out. Text me if you need help with Harry, use the keyword ‘SOS’. The lads and I will be ready on your command.

I chuckle to myself at his silliness. Well, if Harry is coming, I should at least look like I wasn't a crying mess. A couple minutes later I get a call from Harry. I turn down the volume and take a deep breath before answering.

“Hello?”

Babe, where is your room, I’m in the lobby.” He frantically pleads. I walk out of my bedroom and walk to the front door that was open. I must have forgotten to close it on my way in.

“275.” I tell him. “The door is open.” I say as casually as I can, walking back to the bed to get another tissue and wipe away my tears.

You better close it. I don’t want any more strangers popping in.” He says sternly.

“But if I do that would require me to open it again when you get up here. I'm watching a movie.” I say as I plop down on my bed, my hand just on my face to remove last minute tears. He sighs.

Fine. Keep it open. I’m running up the staircase as we speak, anyway.

“You do realize on the 6th floor, right?” That’s going to be a lot of stairs to climb.

Don’t care, the elevator would take too long.” He says out of breath. “Okay, I’m on the floor.”

“Okay.” I say before hanging up. Not even ten seconds later I hear him knock on the door.

“Babe?” I hear him shout out for me.

“In here.” I respond. I don't look away from the movie, just as it was at the part where the badges were being distributed, making me tear up at the gesture.

“Amber…” He says as he walks over to me, taking his shoes off along the way and taking me in a big hug, forcing me to lie back as he lies on top of me. He is soaking wet.

"Harry, you're wet, and cold." I mumble, gently pushing him off of me. I feel him shaking, making me feel bad.

"I know." He smiles softly. "I was just outside. It's raining. Like usual. I didn't bring an umbrella or anything." He pauses for a moment to look at my face. "And you're crying." He says with a frown. I point to the screen, where the credits were now rolling. "Oh. Up?" He asks. I nod.

"Here. Take off your shirt and pants." I tell him as I get up from my bed and find a dry towel and a large robe from the bathroom. He does as I say and holds onto them as I returned. We exchanged items, I did my best not to stare at him until he had the robe on securely.

"Thank you." He says quietly. I nod. I return to the bathroom to leave his clothes hanging on the heater. “Amber?" I hear him call out.

"Yeah?" When I got no response I returned to my bedroom, seeing him sitting on my bed, laying against the headboard looking down at his intertwined fingers. His hair covered part of his face, unintentionally or not. He doesn't look up, but instead pats the space on the bed beside him. I breathe heavily, the air around me getting tense.

"I’m sorry for giving you the cold shoulder this morning..” He says lowly once I sat beside him, tugging at my heartstrings. Making a bold move, I sit up on my knees and straddled his waist. He immediately looks up and holds onto my waist, looking at me directly in the eyes like a deer caught in headlights. We stared at each other for a moment before I kissed his cheek and circled my arms around his neck. He hugs me back in a heartbeat, leaving kisses on the side of my face, trailing down my neck and shoulder before finally burying his face in the crook of my neck.

“It’s okay, I didn’t either.” I sighed. “It’s all about trust, you just have to trust me more. What hurt me was that you didn’t. Even when I didn't even remember what happened. This was my first hangover, you know.” I pointed out.

“I know, I'm sorry. I promise that I will always trust you.” He says, removing his head and placing a kiss on my forehead. “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” He keeps repeating, leaving kisses all over my face, removing my tears from earlier. “I’m so sorry if I made you feel upset, and even cry if I did.” He says before going back into my neck. I let my hand run through his hair, finally feeling better. After a few minutes pass by, he stops and removes me from his lap.

"I don't know how much longer I can stand with a beauty like you on my lap when I'm barely dressed." He smirks, adjusting his robe. My cheeks flush with embarrassment.

"Sorry." I say, looking back at my TV to see commercials. I wonder if there is another movie on?

"Don't be." He says with a smile before placing a kiss on my cheek. I smile a little bit, glad that we are okay. I mean, are we?

"Are we okay?" I ask him.

"Only if you think we are." He nudges my head with his nose, moving his arm to drape on my shoulders. I nod. "Then we are." He smiles, making me smile bigger. He leaves a kiss to my hair before laying me down, his arms snaking around my waist as he causally rests on me. "You're really warm." He mentions, making me giggle.

"Probably because I didn't go out in the rain without a jacket." He looks up at me with a pout face, making laugh. "Don't look at me like that. It was all you."

"Stop. I just need some snuggles and cuddles from my baby." He says with a grin, resting back on my shoulder. My phone vibrates with a picture message, and it’s from Andrew’s number.

“No... We’re busy.” he says, moving my hand down blindly before sliding his arms around my waist, bringing me tighter to him. I shake my head and open it anyway, just to see an image of Harry, with another girl kissing in a lobby. Below it had a caption from him.

From: Andrew:
*Picture Message*
Can you trust him that he does feel the same way about you?

There was a printed date, which was yesterday morning.

“Harry?” I whisper, tapping his shoulder.

“Hmm?” He mumbles through his kisses, making me shudder.

“What’s this?” He leaves one last kiss, no doubt leaving a good mark on me before he removes his head from my neck, moving his hair out of his face. He balances himself on one elbow before taking it, his eyes immediately widening. That does not look good. He stares at it for a couple more seconds which felt like hours before looking up at me, my tears soon coming back. This is just not my day, is it?

“Amber, remember what we just said about trust?” He tries.

My head begins to shake as I remove myself from underneath him, my heart clenching up. I sit up straight, him sitting up as as well. He watches me intently, probably thinking of what his excuse is going to be. I take back my phone, looking at the photo closely, taking in the details. They both have their eyes closed, his hands are on her waist, her arms wound around his neck. This seems like no accident. I try to open my mouth, at least say anything, but no words are formed. My lips stay sealed.
