Icing on the Cake
Chapter Ninety-Four
~94~
“But we told you!” I said.
“You’re the one who convinced me to go for it with Luke.” Calum said. “When I thought I was convinced I was straight.”
“I know but I didn’t believe it. Okay? I guess I wasn’t convinced.” Ashton said.
“How weren’t you convinced?” I asked. “I went to prom with Calum. We slow danced. We freaking caused a movement in the school so big it caught the attention of the news! How did that not convince you?”
“Maybe you were just proving a point.” Ashton said. “Proving a point about gay equal rights with that. Maybe you weren’t together.”
“We keep asking you, Ashton.” Calum said. “Why didn’t you think Luke and I were together.”
“You just stopped dating, the second we went on tour.” Ashton said. “Which was not that long after the prom thing. What if you two just pretended to date to prove a point in the school? To show up Mr. Strands?”
A tear of frustration fell down. “How can you say that?” I sort of snapped. “I ruined everything to be with him. My parents kicked me out. Everything with them has been horrible since then. Everything. It rocked my whole life so how can you say that? Because we didn’t date anymore once we went on tour? Megan forced us to stop! She said if we dated it would ruin our careers and used the threat of your disappointment in me against me.”
“Four years of touring and I never once saw you two do anything together.” Ashton said, referring to Calum and I. “No kissing, no nothing.”
“You caught us one night!” I said.
“No, I didn’t.” Ashton said. “So please, jog my memory.”
I looked at Michael, who was looking down, almost sheepishly. I could tell he was nervous to relive this memory that I was going to share.
