Icing on the Cake

“Everything is so adorable.” I said while shopping for clothes and accessories. “I want to buy everything.”

“I can’t wait to dress them in these.” Calum said holding up some clothes.

We picked out some outfits and final touches for the room. We then headed home, finished up out cleaning, and went to bed early in preparation.

We woke up the next morning, and sluggishly got ready. Jenny was going to meet us for the home study at one in the afternoon.

We had coffee, showered, got dressed, had lunch, made lemonade and small snacks for Jenny to appear hospitable. It was around 12:30 when we were all ready to go.

Then there was a knock on the door.

“She’s early!” I exclaimed in panic.

“Luke, calm down.” Calum said while putting his arms around me. “We’re ready, we’re good, we’re going to be okay.”

I took a breath. “You’re right. Let’s go do this.”

“Do you want me to answer the door?” Calum said.

“I can do it.” I answered. I walked over to the door. “This is it!”

Adrenaline pumped through me, and I was feeling more nervous than ever. Maybe even more nervous than our first show opening for One Direction.

I opened the door, and my stomach fell to the floor as my heart jumped into my throat. Anger, shock, and infuriation rose over me. Jenny wasn’t at the door.

It was Megan.
