Icing on the Cake
Chapter Four
~4~
That night, Calum and I basically played video games until two a.m. and then passed out. I had to go home the next day, which sucked. But we saw each other again at school on Monday.
“Who are you guys asking to prom?” Michael asked us all of us at lunch.
“I don’t know.” Calum said. “Why are you bringing this up now?”
“Because…” Michael said. “Ashton and I have something to tell you.”
“We’re going together.” Ashton said. “Michael and I.”
I didn’t know how to respond. Were they dating now?
“You’re going together?” I asked/repeated.
“Yeah.” Michael said. “We’re both single.”
“We’re best friends, why not?” Ashton added.
“Maybe you and I should do that.” I suggested to Calum. It was my subtle way of asking him, because there was no one I would want to go with but him.
“I think you have someone who wants to go with you.” Calum said. He pointed to Karen, a girl that I had a lot of classes with and hung out with a bit in school but never outside of school. She was a bit dorky, but I liked her because of that. She was different.
“Yeah, she’s nice, but…”
“Yeah…” Calum said with a big smile and a wink-wink, nudge-nudge attitude. “Go for it dude!”
“I don’t think so.” I said.
“Why not?” He asked.
I couldn’t think of anything else to say except, because I’m in love with you, Calum. But I couldn’t say that, so I simply got up.
I cooking class, Calum apologized if he made me uncomfortable. I said there’s no need to apologize. I decided that I needed to tell him that I was gay. I needed to tell someone. I asked if he wanted to hang out after school. He said yes. I kept building up the courage to say the words. The two, tiny, life changing words.
Notes
Sorry I haven't posted for a while...dealing with life takes a lot of time. But this isn't a personal journal.
