Icing on the Cake

The sun was still hot by the time we got to Calum’s house and changed into swimsuits. I was nervous and excited to see Calum shirtless. He was really attractive to me, but I didn’t want to stare at his body and make it obvious.

Calum’s pool had a shallow end and a deep end, that got to over three and a half meters deep. I was never a strong swimmer, and that was something Calum would tease me about. He would always try and push me in the deep end to freak me out.

I was already changed and sitting by the pool, waiting for Calum to come out. A minute later, he walked out wearing blue swim trunks, carrying a couple towels and completely shirtless. He was so attractive, but I tried not to stare at his body. (I definitely made sure to keep my shirt on.)

“Are you finally going to go in the deep end today?” Calum asked me.

“Only if you’re there to save me if I start drowning!” I stated, then regretting it, feeling like I just revealed too much.

“Deal!” Calum said. “You can even jump into my arms!” He said while extending his arms.

“Deal.” I said. “But only if I can ease into it from the shallow end.”

“If you want I think I have some floaties from when I was a kid.” Calum teased.

“Sure!” I said sarcastically.

Calum cannon ball jumped into the deep end of the pool! He shot up quickly. “Come in!” He ordered.

I felt adventurous, so I went over to the deep end and placed my legs in.

“Ooh, you’re being ballsy!” Calum said.

I slid my body into the water, holding onto the side of the pool. I nearly panicked when my feet didn’t touch the bottom, but I kept a death grip on the side of the pool.

“Don’t panic if you can’t feel the bottom!” Calum explained. “Just relax your body.”

I tried, but I couldn’t. “I don’t know how to do this relax thing you speak of.”

“Try letting go of the side.” Calum recommended.

I let go of the side, and I stayed afloat for a second, then started to sink a little, panicked, and then sunk faster.

Before I completely went under, I felt Calum behind me, putting his arms around me, holding me up. I could’ve stayed in his arms forever. It felt safe. It felt right. I knew nothing bad would happen to me if he was around.

“Calum, never let me go.” I said. I then realized what I said, and tried to find a way to take it back.

“What?” Calum asked with a small laugh.

“If I can’t touch the bottom.” I said. “Never let me go.”

“Oh.” Calum said. “I won’t. I’ll never let go, Luke. I’ll never let go.”
