Icing on the Cake

Ashton and Michael got so mad at me, they said they never wanted to see neither Calum nor I again in their lives. That night, I cried in Calum’s lap for hours. He cried some too. We were in his house in Sydney.

The next day, we were just sitting in his house. We didn’t really know what to do at that point.

“Well,” I said. “We have big bank accounts, more big checks on the way and nothing but time. I say the world is our oyster.”

For almost a month we didn’t really do anything but be together. We visited our families. We reassured everyone on social media we loved them. We went on our YouTube channel to explain that we were not the ones that ended the band, but the managers were. Less than twenty-four hours after posting the video, it was taken down along with the channel and all of it’s videos. It said the record company owned the 5 Seconds of Summer name.

It felt like everything had been taking away from us.

In a weird way, it made the relationship between Calum and I stronger. Months kept rolling by, and we ended up buying a house together. Another few months later, I had a ring on my finger.

We invited our family and our old friends after we picked a date. I couldn’t believe that I was going to marry Calum. It had been such a long journey to get to this point, and so much had happened.

I knew we had a lot ahead of us. I couldn’t shake this feeling of depression that followed me everywhere. I decided that nothing in my life would get better unless we worked on patching up the relationships that had broken along the way.

It took forever for Michael or Ashton to even return our calls. Finally, Michael called CALUM back. They blamed Calum a little less than me. We finally convinced Michael to come over to our house, sit by our pool and talk this out. Michael said he would try and get Ashton to come, too.
