Icing on the Cake
Chapter One Hundred and Seventy-One
~171~
Handler said he would give us some time to talk about it. Calum and I agreed: We wanted Julia to get the abortion.
She didn’t want to. She became so upset by us asking her to do that, she asked us to leave the room. We did, but I decided to go back in after about a half hour.
I knocked on the door to Julia’s room and then walked in. She was laying in the bed, just staring out the window, while slowly rubbing her hand back and forth over her belly.
“Hello Julia.” I said to her.
She turned her head to me. “Hello Luke.” She said back.
I walked over to her. “How are you doing?”
“I need-“ Julia started as she was reaching for her water cup on the table, just out of reach. I handed it to her as she started sipping on it.
“Julia I know that you don’t want to hear this.” I said, and as I started she turned her head away from me.
“Julia, please!” I said, my voice shaking. I kneeled down next to her and grabbed her hand and held it. “I’m so scared right now.”
Tears started forming in my eyes, and I could see that they were threatening hers as well.
“This is the most scared I’ve ever been, Julia.” I continued. “You are such an important part of my life, and I love you. And I also love the babies you’re carrying, so much.”
Tears were streaming down both of our faces.
“And we’re asked to decide whose life is the most important,” I said, “Which is an impossible thing to decide. Julia this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to ask anyone. Julia, please get the abortion.” There was a pause. “That’s so hard for me to say. Biology or not I know that those are my babies and I love them more than anything.”
“Please,” Julia whimpered.
“But I can’t stand the thought of you not being around.” I stated. “I can’t stand the thought of our children not having their mother.”
“Stop it Luke.” Julia said angrily.
“Julia, these babies are killing you!” I exclaimed. “And why should you die over that? What if you die, and the babies don’t even live? Then what was all this for? Please, Julia….”
Julia started screaming, she started screaming in pain and held her belly.
“Oh my God, WE NEED HELP IN HERE!” I screamed as I ran out of the room.
Notes
You know how I've been saying I've always known how this story will climax? Well, just as a warning, this chapter isn't even HALF as intense as that climax!
My heart, Oof.
