Icing on the Cake

Weakly knocking on Calum’s door, I tried to stop the tears before someone answered the door. I was praying Calum would be the one to answer.

“Hey Luke!” Calum said with a smile as he opened the door. His smile suddenly turned to worry when he saw me. “Oh my God Luke what happened?”

“Brett beat me up after school and my parents kicked me out because they found out about us.” I started crying. “Can I stay here?”

“Of course!” Calum said while coming in to give me a hug.

Calum asked his parents if I could stay there for a while. They said yes, and expressed their sympathies towards me for going through what I had been. I just smiled weakly and thanked them.

We walked down to Calum’s basement and he tried to cheer me up by making it seem like one of our sleepovers. It didn’t work, and I was starting to feel almost physically ill.

“You need to eat something.” Calum said to me as he walked downstairs with a bowl of pasta.

“I think I’d be sick if I ate something.” I said back.

“Please try. You need to eat.”

I reluctantly took a bite, and thought I would throw it up as I swallowed. I didn’t, but I knew that I would if I ate another bite.

I decided I just needed to sleep. I laid down in bed and Calum snuggled up next to me. I was afraid that he was going to try and do stuff, because I really wasn’t in the mood. He didn’t but of all the things that were running through my head, that became one of them. I became afraid of the day he would want more than kissing. I just felt not ready, and I became terrified that he would be ready way before I would be.

Once I got to school the next morning, I contemplated reporting the incident of what happened. I decided not to considering how Mr. Strands dealt with this sort of situation.

People were asking me all day what happened the day before. I really wasn’t in the mood explain the situation hundreds of times, so I just said that Mr. Strands and Brett are assholes. Calum explained what happened to Michael and Ashton at lunch. They both wanted to go beat up Brett for me. They are amazing friends. The last class of the day is the only one I had with Calum, and people were asking constantly then because talking is more allowed in that class.

Calum answered for me, saying the same thing I said. People kept pressing and asking more questions. After class ended, Calum said, “Check our YouTube Channel in an hour.”

“Why?” I asked Calum.

“We’re going to make a video explaining what happened.” Calum said. “We need to be heard.”

“What’s the channel’s name?” someone asked.

Calum responded, “5 Seconds of Summer.”
