Icing on the Cake

“You’re right.” Kyle said, walking in from behind us. “They can’t.”

I had never been relieved to hear his voice.

“I need to talk to the person in charge here.” He said to who I assumed to be the receptionist.

“The crown prosecutor is on his way.” The receptionist said.

The crown prosecutor walked in. He was probably 30s and his face looked like an ass.

“You need to release my clients right now.” Kyle said.

“I’m not releasing any illegal immigrants.” The CP (crown prosecutor) said.

“I would love to see the deportation order that you wrote up.” Kyle said. “I’m assuming since you arrested them that it is signed by a judge?”

“The judge will sign it.” CP said.

“Oh, it’s not signed right now?” Kyle asked. “And it wasn’t signed when you arrested my clients, then wouldn’t that be…illegal? That’s false imprisonment.”

“I have sufficient evidence that they are here illegally.” CP said.

“I don’t care what your evidence is.” Kyle said. “You can write up all the little deportation orders you want but they’re nothing, especially not an arrest warrant without a judge’s signature. So I suggest that you let my clients go right now or we sue your ass for false imprisonment.”

CP did nothing but look pissed off for a second. He then turned to the bailiff. “Let them go.”

All three ran out of the holding cells and right into our arms, so we had a group hug.

“You can bet your ass you’re still getting charged with illegal immigration.” CP said. "They'll be back in this cage soon!"

“And you can bet your ass that this unconstitutional conduct will get the case thrown out and your campaign for reelection shattered.” Kyle said as we all walked out of the immigration office and went back home.

I really hope the phrases I used in this are Australiany enough. I googled so many Australian equivalents to American law terms I already knew.
