Teenage Dirtbag

M I L A

Four Months Prior

Like any other day, I stayed behind after school with my dad. It had become my liturgy ever since my first year of high school. This was my home away from home and I was greatly welcomed to the six open lanes that enticed my name. It was one of the many perks of being the daughter of the head coach and director of the athletics department. Having the track free to myself without anyone to impede upon me.

It was the second week of August and school had fell back into its usual regimen. Football try-outs had officially begun and for the next three consecutive days, dad will have to stay from 3:25 to 5:45 watching fledgling freshmen and haughty upper class men. On the bright side, this gave me more time to practice as long as I wanted to.

This would would be one of the last times I get to run on the track. It was senior year at last but it felt like yesterday I was in the eighth grade struggling through Pre-Algebra. I have to definitely make this year count. Having two scholarships from Virginia Tech and Florida State, I could cruise for the rest of the year but I was anticipating the arrival of the UCLA recruiters to watch me in the Spring. Virginia is a great school but I want to have an adventure. I want to venture and see the world. With hard work and effort, I'll make it. I just have to get through the winter first.

"Dad-" I begin to say but he interrupts me.

"Already got it," he holds up the stopwatch and kept walking towards the field where all the players were finishing loosening up.

Feeling the insatiable and acute stares, I stripped off my athletic jacket unveiling my toned arms and flat stomach. Only in my black printed Nike sports bra, I began to stretch all the running muscles. Taking out my phone, I went to my running playlist on Spotify, plugged in my wireless Beats, and began jogging.

I was in trance without even knowing it. I watched the voluptuous and golden brown haired girl jog down around the track. Her hair was swinging side to side as it was held up in a ponytail with her arms in full swing and rhythm.

Waking out of my trance, there was a tap on my shoulder. I shuddered as I turned around. It was two towering and heavily built guys. "I'd be careful not to stare too long," the tow-colored said stretching out his arms over his head.

"I wasn't-" They began laughing at me because they knew all to well I was staring intently.

"Hey, don't feel bad; we all do," said the jet black haired one. Not to seem prejudice, but he appeared to be Asian.

"It's hard not to when she looks like that." All three of us turned back to look at her. "But we have to be careful. Her dad is the coach."

Examining the coach and then looking over at her, I couldn't believe the similarities and how I missed it. "Yeah, you don't want to be on the receiving end of that."

"And I would watch out." I turned to the other side of me and there was another towering guy. "That's mine," he said with a growl and dark eyes.

"When did she stop rejecting you Gray?" The blonde said erupting into laughter.

"When she found out how good this-"

"Shirts and skins since the jerseys aren't clean." Coach Thompson began walking up from the bench with his clipboard. He had dark cold eyes under his black baseball cap and his shirt was protruding with bulging muscles. "Chris. Skins. RB." The blonde who I was conversating earlier with took off his shirt and went to the left. "Declan. Shirts. LB."

Tuning out the rest of the names called, I went back to watching the coach's daughter full out sprinting down the straight away. I thought I'd never seen someone run and look beautiful at the same time.

"Harry. Skins." I take off my shirt and throw it off to the sidelines. I went to the left with Chris and he patted my shoulder twice. "QB."

"This is going to be fun," that 'Gray' guy announced.

Finishing off hard, I yelled "Time!" to my father. My body glistened with sweat as I walked around in a circle with my hands on my waist, breathing in and out in cadence.

"7:19." My father calls to me as I take a seat next to him. "How much?" he asked softly.

"Like 40 seconds," I said breathing heavily.

"You know, the season doesn't start until February." He was watching the pathetic game in front of him and check people. "And you already got Virginia so there's no need for the extra pressure." I checked my phone. "Just another five minutes." He said reading my mind.

"Is Grayson going to be quarterback this season?" Grayson O'Conner. Quarterback from Junior Varsity when he was a freshman to Varsity from last season as a junior. Everyone thinks he the school's Prince and that we'd make a cute couple the problem is that he's just too goddamn cocky.

"Nope." I looked at him strangely with my eyebrows furrowed.

"Really?" I was stunningly suprised as my dad nodded his head continuing to check names and write down notes. "Then who's going to be quarterback?"

"Uh, he new. Last name is Styles." I looked at the field as they start of a play. They hiked the ball to the boy with the sweaty curly hair. He was kinda cute, I guess. "Two minutes!" He called out to them.

"Who's winning?" I said trying to keep interest.

"Skins." He said looking at the time. "So pizza tonight?"

"I suppose I'm willing to cook for my dad." He's in love with my homemade flat bread pizza so I wasn't surprise when he asked.

"And Jax is coming over so maybe two this time." I rolled my eyes and rubbed my hands over my neck. Why couldn't he just stay in his dorm like a regular college student? "Time! Skins 31, Shirts 23. I'll see you guys back here tomorrow, same time."

I went over to collect my duffelbag from the fence and began to walk to my car when someone grabbed my hand and spinned me around to face them.

"Hey Mila." Grayson.

"Got to hell." I turned around to begin walking again but the damn boy is so persistent, he gets in front of me and walks backwards.

"What did I do to you?" Just one of his series of questions he asks on a daily basis. Grayson is like that lost puppy you found at the park. You know you can't take it home but it follows you anyway.

"You're a player." He scoffed but it was true. There's probably not a girl in school who hasn't had sex with him. "Or would you prefer gigolo?"

"I only do it to make you jealous," I busted into a laugh at his unbelievable statement. "What's so funny?

"Make me jealous? C'mon, I think we both know that there will never be an us. Ever!" I walked past him. Not getting far, he took me by my waist.

"Never isn't in my vocabulary." He looked me up and down with his daunting hazel eyes.

"Then what is?" He just smirked and slightly shook his head.

"Hey! O'Conner! Go Home!" My dad yelled out from the gate, ending the short lived conversation.

"We will be together." He was too busy walking backwards to look at me, when he turned around he bumped into my dad. If there's anything in this world someone should be terrified of is a six foot, two hundred thirty seven pound man, who doesn't like teenage dirtbags talking to his daughter.

I began walking to my car when I almost tripped from a force from behind. I didn't fall but my keys and phone did hitting the pavement.

"I'm so sorry," the unknown stranger said coming behind me to pick up my keys and gladly unscathed phone. When he came back up to eye level. I realized it was Styles.

He had deep green eyes and his curly damp hair was kept back by a red bandanna. I accepted my possessions from him and as soon as I did, he ran off to his car. Never introducing himself.
