Living Hell

M I L A

I waited in the car, knowing I would have to get out sometime, but I couldn’t. My feet wouldn’t let me be courageous enough. I was glued to the seat in Harry’s car as I waited, waited for some reason not to go inside that house. I don’t know what’ll happened or if anything will happen. I was in fear. Fear of my own father. I stared at the elegant wooden door with a opaque glass oval in the center with gentle golden wisps.

“I could go in if you want me to.” I forgot Harry was in the car until I heard his voice. I didn’t bother taking my eyes off the door. I was so concentrated on it thinking it would open any minute and my father would come busting through. I shuddered on the inside and then remembered the sting of his palm.

Swallowing hard before I spoke, I said, “No, its fine.” Even though it probably wasn’t gonna be. I exhaled slowly and unbuckled my seat. Opening the door and letting myself out, I grabbed my things from the floor of his car. “Thanks Harry,” I said with a slight smile and he returned.

Without Harry letting stay the night at his house, I would be somewhere else. Somewhere far else. “No problem,” he said through his perfectly crooked smile. “See you in first?” He asked. I smiled and bit my lower lip softly.”

“First and fourth,” I confirmed. I still wasn’t over the kiss from last night now breaking my promise I would never think about it ever again for Grayson’s sake. But it happened and I was still in my feelings on how to move forward. I don’t want tell Grayson because that’ll cause another fight, which I don’t think I would be able to step in. “See you later.” Hopefully.

I made my way easily off the porch steps, unlocking the door, stepping inside, and finally closing the door. Hearing Harry’s car drive off, my dad walked in the kitchen with his morning coffee. It looked like it was his second or third cup because he had bags under his eyes. He seemed excited, more than the coffee was doing, and relieved.

“Mila, I-” He began, but I didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t get any sleep last night either and I was one hell of a day yesterday. I didn’t want to hear it.

“Don’t bother wasting your breath.” I marched upstairs to my bedroom to prepare for another long day ahead of me.
