Treacherous

Chapter 3

"I feel like Crap." I groaned to Buddha, cuddling closer to her in bed. The blinding light from my window was only increasing my headache.

How much did I even drink? Ronnie was so dead.

If it weren't for the overwhelming thirst in my dry mouth I could have laid in bed all morning... and afternoon, maybe even night as long as Liam brought me some food.

Holding my spinning head I dragged myself out of bed and down the stairs. I found Liam in the kitchen pouring himself a cup of coffee. He looked a similar state as the one I was in… the horrible after math of binge drinking.

"Morning sunshine." He smirked when he took in my most definitely ratchet appearance. I was still in my oversized pajamas and my hair was a rats nest from not brushing it after my shower.

"Morning." I grumbled and plopped myself at the kitchen island. Liam handed me the cup he was pouring and made himself a new one. It's times like these when I know he loves me. I managed a smile and brought the hot liquid to my lips.

Which were unusually chapped and a bit swollen. You know that feeling you get the morning after you.. It was almost as if…

"Holy Fuck!" I gasped, the hazy events of last night finally creeping in. My little outburst earned a questionable look from Liam. I ignored him and continued my inner panic attack.

Me and Ni- Niall… I and.. Niall and.. Oh no.

"A whole year older, a whole lot sexier." The Devil himself announced his presence as he entered the room, clad in nothing but Calvin Klein boxers. Despite his cheery attitude he was rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and his bed head hair was sticking in every direction. I tried not to admit how adorable he looked.

"Happy Birthday man." I vaguely heard Liam greet him but I managed to tune out the conversation.
Maybe he wouldn't remember. He seemed hungover enough. He had been drunk. He wouldn't have done that to Liam if he weren't. Yes, perfect. He forgot.. it never happened. Elliot wouldn't have to know. It was just a mistake a horribly stupid mistake. That I couldn't ever take back….Stop it Olivia , yes you can. Because it never happened. Simple. Done. Never mentioned again.

"Do you want some of this?" The sound of Niall's voice snapped me out of my little melt down.

"Huh?" I asked bewildered. Did I just hear him correctly?

"Do you want some?"

"Some what?" My eyes widened and darted nervously to Liam who was too busy cracking eggs into a pan.

Niall's mouth twitched and his eyes danced in amusement. "Oh Olive," he chuckled. "I was simply asking if you wanted some pancakes." He waved the Betty Crocker box that like an idiot I hadn't noticed was in his hands. "But if you'd like to go down that road then i'd gladly-" He didn't get to finish his sentence as Liam whacked him in the back of the head with a spatula. "Ouch." Niall complained, rubbing the spot.

"Stop giving my baby sister innuendos. I don't care if it's your birthday. I'll castrate you."

"Hey she's the one with the sick mind. I was just offering her breakfast." Niall argued.

"I um, I'm actually gonna go to Ronnie's for breakfast. She needs help studying for the calculus exam."

"But it's my birthday breakfast." Niall pouted. "You didn't even wish me a Happy Birthday Olive. I'm hurt."

"Happy Birthday you tool." I rolled my eyes.

"Thank you Olive. It means a lot. I really think eighteen is my year. I mean look at me, I'm practically glowing." If you were wondering why I called him a tool, I'm sure you get it now.

"Yeah…I'm just gonna go." I got up from my stool, ready to go shower change and get the hell out of here. I would literally have a panic attack if I stayed in a room with him any longer.

"Be back for Dinner, we're going to Hooters! And I want my birthday present!" Niall shouted at me as I walked out of the kitchen. He can shove his present up his ass.

…….

It was almost a week since Niall's birthday party and he hadn't mentioned a thing about the 'incident'. As I had been calling it in my head. I was on edge the whole day after, just waiting for him to mock me, but it never came. Even when we were alone he didn't show any signs of remembrance. I thanked whatever fairy god mother that was watching over me, for making Niall Horan forget that I almost gave myself to him.

There was no way in hell that he wouldn't relish in making my life miserable if he knew.
I was currently sitting in said person's passenger seat as we drove to the hospital. It was our first day of volunteering. Louis and Britney were meeting us there so it were only Niall and I in the car. Everytime we were alone I was just waiting for him to bring up that night, but as the days went on I eased up a bit more.

Although he may lack the memories I still had them and they were bright, clear and vivid. I had never felt such animalistic desire for someone the way I did that night. I hated to admit how much it was affecting me. For example, just gazing at his hands clutching the steering wheel reminded me of how good they felt roaming my thighs. I tried to blame it on the heightening effects of alcohol.

But Elliot never made me feel that way. With him any sexual activity was like a chore filled with fake orgasms. I couldn't help but think of how different any experience with Niall would be.

"Why are you so quite Olive?" He asked glancing over at me.

"Eyes on the road!" I scolded. He rolled them before focusing on the street ahead.

"Answer me."

"Quite? I'm not quite."

"Yes you are. You've been acting weird lately." He stated making a slight blush creep up my face.

"No I haven't. I've just been stressed with school."

"Nope that's not it. Olive doesn't get stressed from school work, it's like second nature to you.
There's something else." He pushed.

"I uh, I miss Elliot. I haven't seen him in almost a month."

He was silent for a moment before muttering something under his breath. I didn't miss the way his knuckles turned white from how hard he had gripped the wheel.

"What was that?" I asked, referring to his incoherent words.

"Nothing. Forget I asked." He snapped.

Niall's snippy mood seemed to dissipate once we entered the left wing of the hospital. Louis was already waiting, though Britney was unshockingly running late. I was in awe as I looked around the room we were directed to. We were in the entertainment sector where live-in patients go to socialize and, well, entertain themselves.

There was a kids corner filled with dolls and dinosaurs and all other child toys. There was a media area with video games and what looked like endless DVD's. Lastly there was an adult section where a few patients were playing cards. I felt an overwhelming pain in my chest as I watched the sick young children laughing freely as they played together. Each one with bald heads, but their illness didn't seem to phase them. They looked happy, maybe they were, maybe they weren't. But watching them look so joyous despite whatever serious issues they were facing, suddenly made all of my problems seem so small and irrelevant.

Today our job was to entertain the patients, get to know them. Dr. Wess informed us that bonding with someone and forming a strong friendship would mean the world to them.
Louis and Niall headed off towards the media section, there were a few teen's there. I was sure those two would show them a good time. I found myself heading towards the children. They all looked at me curiously as I approached. I sat down next to three little girls who were playing barbie dolls.

"Can I play?" I asked them. The youngest one, probably around five had the brightest blue eyes I had ever seen. She offered me a smile and handed me a brunette doll.

"You can be Tilly." She told me. With that they all seemed to warm up to me, teaching me how to play every game. Eventually all twelve children were wanting to join in so we ended up playing duck duck goose. I hadn't had so much fun in ages. I forgot how freeing it was to just play like a child.

"Don't worry Livy I'll get you out of the cookie jar!" The little girl with the bright blue eyes whispered to me. I learned her name was Marley, it fit her and her adorable personality perfectly.

Niall was 'it' and was in the process of going around the circle, he was purposely building the anticipation of who he would choose. I wasn't so sure of Marley's plan, that was until she made the widest puppy dog eyes I had ever seen and glanced up at Niall. I watched as his entire face melted in awe, and snickered to myself, the little girl new what she was doing. Sure enough when he reached her he shouted 'goose', and ran slowly around the circle. Marley hopped on her little feet and sprinted until she reached Niall, who acted shocked that she had caught him. Oh, if only he knew how well she just played him. I smirked because she liked me better. Marley shot me a mega watt smile and ran into my arms.

"I told you I could do it!" She cheered and I laughed as Niall's jaw dropped. Especially as all the children kept chanting, 'Niall's in the cookie jar!'. Yep paybacks a bitch. He's the one who started that little chant when it was me in the jar.

"You two cheated. You were in cahoots!" He whined like a little kid.

"We did no such thing." I scoffed in feigned shock. "I can't believe you would accuse two innocent girls of that." Marley and I pouted at him.

"I quit." He hoffed and crossed his arms. Someones a sore looser.

"Awe is Niall embarrassed to be in the cookie jar." I teased in a baby voice and all the kids roared with laughter.

He narrowed his eyes at me. "Sorry kids but I'm going to have to borrow Olive for a little."

"What? No, we're playing." I protested and placed Marley on the ground.

"Come on, I just have to show you something." He pulled me away from the circle of kids who we're already continuing their game.

"Where are you taking me? I was having fun." I complained as he dragged me out of the large room. Louis was playing chess with an elderly man, and Britney was sitting on a couch filing her nails. To be honest I was surprised when she even showed up.

"You'll like it just come on."

He pulled me down the hallway and into a new room. It was much smaller than the other but a delighted smile took over my face. It was an art room. They really had everything at this place. There were only a few patients in here. A middle aged man, an elderly women and her nurse, and a young boy probably around thirteen. They were each busied in their own work, sitting behind easels.

"Told you you'd like it." Niall smiled smugly. He was right. Ever since I could hold a crayon I've wanted to be an artist. It was always my dream. I was going to go to an art school. There were so many possibilities, I could be a teacher, open a gallery, illustrate books, even design clothes. I hadn't really decided. When the time came for me to start thinking that way, I had been talked out of my art career. Apparently my grades were too high and it would be a 'waste' to not do something more 'realistic' with my life. Those were the words of my boyfriend. He was right, I guess, why should I go into art when I could easily get into Stanford's Law School.

"How did you know about this?" I asked him.

"Uh- Wess told me." He shrugged.

"Can I.."

"Paint, look around, go ahead." He urged.

I slowly walked over to the elder women. I sat in the stool next to her and watched as she shakily
held the end of the paint brush opposite of the bristles. She was making what looked to be a flower but her brush strokes were very jagged.

"You should try holding closer to the bristles. Almost like you would a pencil." I told her, she jumped slightly as if she didn't know I was there. She probably didn't hear me approach. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you."

"No no dear, I didn't see you there. It happens all of the time." She assured me. "Now what were you saying." I showed her an easier way to hold her brush and as I suspected her strokes were much smoother. I found out her name was Darla, and she has stage III Ovarian Cancer. I tried not to cry as she shared her story with me, one that I didn't even ask for. But it didn't seem to phase her anymore as she told me, she was used to it. She wasn't looking for pity, just someone to talk to.

"Darla, we have to take you back to your room now." The young male nurse cut in. He sounded apologetic that he had to interrupt us.

"Oh alright, Justin dear. Isn't he a looker." She said to me as she pinched his face. I giggled as he blushed. I offered to clean up her paints and place her canvas on the drying rack. "You should get her number Justin, she's a beauty that one." I heard her tell him as he wheeled her out of the room. I smiled to myself at that. I was going to like hanging with Darla.

When I finished cleaning her area, I noticed it was only me and the young teen boy left in the room. He seemed really into his piece and I didn't want to disturb him, but I also didn't want to leave him all alone. I walked behind him to observe what he was making and my breath caught in my throat. Someone so young made this?

It looked like a path, with trees and leaves on either side, and the focus was on a small silhouette of a human figure in the center. What stood out to me the most was the dark and eery colors in the painting. There wasn't one bright color. The majority was black, a little white, grey, and brown, but that was it. It was beautiful though, and required plenty of skill.

He turned around when he felt my presence. He gave me a blank look and turned back to his painting.

"This is amazing." I told him. Silence. "Have you taken classes?" More silence. I could take a hint so I backed off and sat a few stools down. I set up a canvas and started aimlessly painting. It had been so long since I made any type of art other than what was required in school.

I was only going to make something simple like a flower, inspired by Darla. But I somehow ended up with what looked like a laughing child.

"Your good." A small raspy voice shocked me and the container of water I was using went tumbling to the ground. "Sorry." The teen boy hurried to the counter and grabbed a roll of paper towels. He pulled some off and I did the same, bending down to clean the spreading puddle.

"Your good." He repeated when the mess was gone.

"So are you." I told him.

"I don't know." He shrugged.

"Hasn't anyone ever told you?" I asked him.

"My mom has I suppose. Not that it matters if I'm good anyway." He replied with a clouded look on his face. I didn't even want to know what he meant by that but I had a pretty good idea.

"I'm Livy." I told him, extending my hand. He stared at it for a moment before loosely shaking it
with his.

"Noah."

"How old are you Noah?"

"Fourteen." He told me. "I was twelve."

"What?"

"I was twelve when I was diagnosed with leukemia."

"I wasn't.. I didn't mean for you-" I stammered, feeling guilty that he felt the need to share that with me.

"It's okay. I knew you were curious."

"I guess most people are, huh?"

"Everyone." He smiled, though his hazel eyes didn't reflect it.

"So are you going to tell me how you learned to paint so well?" I asked.

"My grandpa used to teach me."

"Your really good, I would have expected you to have taken art lessons your whole life."

"Nope. I couldn't even if I wanted to. They don't let me leave this place much. I'm not even allowed to go to school this year. I guess that's a plus, or it really sucks I haven't decided yet."

"Wow." I let out a breath. "If it makes you feel any better, I've been up past midnight every night this week doing bullshit homework assignments."

He laughed loudly, it was a pleasant sound.

"It does." He grinned. Niall chose that moment to walk back into the room, his keys jingling on his finger.

"Ready to go Olive?" He asked looking between Noah and I.

"Olive?" Noah quirked an eyebrow. "That's funny."

"Don't encourage him." I warned. "I'll see you next week Noah."

"Yeah, I better get back to my room anyway before they come looking for me. See you." Noah waved once more and retreated out the door.

"So what did you think?" Niall asked on the car ride home.

"I had a great time. Thank you, you know for insisting we volunteer there. It was really.." I
searched for the right word. "Eye opening, you could say."

"Yeah well all of the people their are great. I saw you chatting with the Noah kid. Wess tells me he was diagnosed with depression recently on top of the cancer. He hardly talks to anyone outside his family."

I was definitely shocked to hear that. Why had Noah talked to me out of everyone? He seemed to share things so easily it was surprising that he wasn't a talker with most people.

"He actually ignored me at first but then he was like a chatter box. Have you seen his paintings. Their unbelievable."

"Like someone else I know."

"Who?"

"You Olive." He rolled his eyes. "Though you hardly paint anymore."

"Don't start this Niall."

"Why not? Your going to regret your decisions. You don't want to be a lawyer. Who even does?"

"Me." I lied.

"Bullshit."

"You don't know what your talking about Niall."

"I know that since we were little the only thing you ever thought about was being an artist." He snapped.

"Yes and I've grown up. People change. I know what I want to do with my life."

"And this has nothing to do with you following that ass of a boyfriend of yours?"

"Would you keep your opinions to yourself for once. Gosh your such a fucking jerk Niall." Luckily he was pulling into the driveway in that moment. Liam's car was gone so it meant I was alone with the douche bag, just great. I flung my door open and hopped out, ready to lock myself in my room.

"You just know I'm right, that's why your so angry." He argued, following right behind me. I unlocked the front door and attempted to slam it in his face but his palm caught it half way. "You would listen to anything that prick tell's you."

"He's my boyfriend. I love him and trust him. Why shouldn't I listen to him?" I yelled, ready to rip my hair out.

"Because he's a selfish fuck and only cares about himself. You don't love him Olive. I know it." He narrowed his eyes walking closer to me. I stepped back in return which was the wrong move since I trapped myself against the wall.

"You don't know that." I glared.

"Oh but I do." He spoke softly, now pressed up against me, the heat of his body spreading on to mine. "I remember Olive."

My eyes widened and my heart sped up, knowing exactly what he was referring to.

"The night of my party. I remember everything. What you felt like." He ran his thumb across my bottom lip. "Sounded like." His lips began to kiss my jaw traveling down my throat, and when he reached my sweet spot I cursed myself for absentmindedly letting out a small moan. "Tasted like." He whispered, his lips now hovering over my mouth. His eyes searched mine as if looking for approval. I had two choices, I could push him away and run upstairs, or give in to my instincts. He must have seen something in my eyes because seconds later his mouth lightly brushed against mine. "I don't know how you thought I could forget the best kiss of my life Olivia."

His lips were on mine once more and this time I felt myself responding. His tongue made it's way into my mouth and it expertly plaid with mine. I didn't think it were possible for someone to kiss this well, not until Niall. My limp arms made their way up his chest and neck until my fingers tangled in his soft hair. He backed me further into the wall, pushing our bodies together and let out a soft groan as my grip in his hair tightened.

I felt his hands latch onto the bottom of my thighs and before I knew it my legs were hitched around his waist. Our crotches were lined up perfectly so I could feel just how turned on he was.
Before it could go any farther the sound of an engine pulling into the driveway mixed with Liam's loud rap music, cut us off.

Niall groaned and rested his forehead against mine.

"Your brother is the worlds biggest cock block without even knowing it."

"Holy shit. That did not just happen. Again." I managed to get down from his hold and put a few feet of distance between us.

"Oh I can assure you it did. Would you like to feel the proof." He gestured to his erection, a wicked smile on his face.

"Oh my god, hide that! Liam's coming."

"Relax, I'll just tell him I was watching porn."

"Your disgusting!" I groaned.

"Please, you were not thinking that five seconds ago."

"That never happened!" I glared at him, daring him to test me.

"Whatever you say babe. Though I'm pretty sure those were your words last time." He smirked. He was enjoying this. Of course he was. He managed to make me cheat on my boyfriend, who he hates, twice. That was probably his plan, ruin my relationship.

"Is this funny to you?" I scolded and hurried into the kitchen so Niall and I wouldn't randomly be standing in the foyer when Liam walked in. I'm not sure how that would look. Niall obviously followed along. "I just cheated and your smirking at me. I'm not a cheater. I don't do that."

"I'd hardly call a kiss cheating Olive." He scoffed.

I opened the fridge and resisted the urge to snap back at him do to the sound of the front door opening. Deep breaths Liv, deep breaths.

I pulled out the orange juice and poured myself a glass as Liam walked in with two bags of Chinese take out.

"Hello children. I brought dinner." He smiled, oblivious to the tension between me and his best friend. Niall was quick to dig through a bag and pull out containers.

"There better be egg rolls." I grumbled.

………………

"Earth to Olivia." Ronnie shouted waving a hand in front of my face.

"What? Huh?" I tore my eyes away from the field to look at her.

"I've been trying to talk to you for the past five minutes but you were zoned out. What the hell is your problem lately?"

"Nothing." I replied quickly with wide eyes. I knew she'd see right threw me.

"Oh please, I'm no idiot. Plus you've been starring at Horan the whole game and I haven't missed the millions of glances he's thrown our way. I mean I know my hair stands out but I don't think that's why."

The boys had their first soccer game of the season and practically the whole school was attending. Ron, Kendal, Miya and I were lucky enough to snag great seats closer to the field. Miya and Kendal were currently at the bathrooms, leaving me alone with my prying best friend.

"He um…" I trailed off trying to think up an excuse.

"Don't bullshit me Olivia Frances Payne." Ew she just had to use my horrible middle name. My parents were most likely high when they chose that. They couldn't have picked something, oh I don't know, feminine.

I sighed knowing I couldn't lie to Ronnie. Not ever. "I did something bad Ron."

"How bad?"

"The world running out of chocolate bad."

"Now that's just a catastrophe."

"Exactly." I deadpanned.

"Oh come on, it can't be that horrible. What is it?"

"I.. madeoutwithNiall." I muttered in one breath, knowing there was no way she understood.

"English please."

"I might have made out with Niall. Twice." I admitted in a low voice, looking down at my feet. I was
not expecting the loud squeal that came from her.

"I knew it! I knew it would happen! Gosh yes! Finally!"

I gaped at her not expecting that kind of reaction. "Your not helping! Your supposed to sympathize with me, or call me an idiot."

"Are you kidding this is the best news I've heard all week! I've been waiting forever for you to admit you want him."

"Oh my god Ronnie! I do not. He seduced me, it's not my fault."

"Ooo that sounds hot! How'd he do it?"

"We are not having this conversation here." I looked around realizing we were in a public place. Luckily the crowd was loud and no one was paying us any mind.

"Fine. I'm just glad I can finally say buy to nitwit Elliot."

"Wait, wait woah, hold up. I'm not breaking up with Elliot and he won't ever know. No one will ever know. Understood." I warned.

"But, but.."

"No. It was a mistake. A huge, huge mistake and will never happen again."

"I don't believe that."

"Please drop it. And don't tell anyone." I whispered as I noticed Kendal and Miya making their way over to us.

"Fine. But were talking later."
