Amp It Up (X Factor, Niall Horan, One Direction Love Story)

Chapter 18

I was late the next morning.

Instead of being smart and setting an alarm on my iPhone, I'd set it on the alarm clock.

Which, subsequently, had been a victim to Daylights Savings a few weeks prior and was an hour off.

I was in the shower when I realized how dry my hair was. I thought it was weird until I remembered that I hadn't conditioned it in over two weeks. I soaked my hair in conditioner and waited half an hour, then rinsed it out. As soon as my hair was blow dried it was silky again, and I was relived.

I had to go to the stylist, to determine my outfit for Country night, which was in two days.

And of course, I had to help the others find a song as well. It was a daunting task, but I already had a song in mind for Conan and Ryan. I wasn't sure about Darren. He would be the hardest to help. The only song that I knew of in country that had rap in it was Dirt Road Anthem. Even then he'd have to have someone to sing it with him. Maybe he and Ryan could do a duet? They didn't get along any longer, but they'd have to suck it up.

Springsteen by Eric Church could work for him. Darren could hold a tune, he wasn't half bad at singing. I knew he'd been getting lessons from the vocal coach.

I dressed in jeans and an old Eagles tee shirt with converse and headed off to the stylist. I had a different one this time, a older man who reminded me of a dancer.

I liked him up until he showed me the dress he wanted me to wear on stage.

“Nope.” I said. I sat back on the table and shook my head. Paulo shook the red slinky number at me.

“What you mean nope?” He asked. His accent was slightly Spanish.

“I mean no. It's too slutty,” I replied. Paulo looked at me confused. “Um, la puta” I said, thankful for the two years of Spanish I'd taken before I'd moved to Ireland.

Paulo looked outraged. “La puta?! What you mean la puta!”

I looked at him and leaned forward. I grabbed the corner of the dress and pointed to the hip high split in the see through skirt. And then I pointed at the strapless, low cut top.

“La puta.” I stated. I went to the large closet of outfits and started searching through them. I pulled out a knee one shouldered navy blue dress.

“No la puta.” I stated. Paulo glared at me.

“El mojigato!” He cried, pointing at me. I gasped. “I am not either a prude!”

I took the blue dress and went to the changing room and put it on. I marched out to a defiant Paulo.

“See!” I gestured down at the dress. On me it was mid thigh, and fitted closely to my hips.

“Not el mojigato!”

Paulo shook the red dress at me. “Wear dress!” He ordered. I shook my head. “No!”

“I shall call Simon!” He yelled. I cocked my hip and glared at him. There was no way I was wearing something that indecent. I had standards!

“You can go call him right away, I ain't wearing that dress!”

“Estupido la nina.” Paulo muttered, dialing a number on his phone.

“I am NOT a stupid girl!” I snapped. I went to the changing room again and pulled my clothes back on. I didn't really like the blue dress, too much leg showed.

While Paulo yelled on the phone to a bored Simon, I searched through the dresses for something pretty and non slutty. I found a cream A-line dress with a low scoop neck. I then found a pair of brown heels and a belt to go around my waist. I put it all on, pulled my hair up into a high, loose bun and marched out to Paulo. He was still yelling into the phone in Spanish, but when he saw me he stopped mid sentence and stared. He barked something into the phone and flipped it shut, then walked in circles around me. I turned nervously as he circled.

“Hermoso la nina.” He stated. I grinned, knowing I had won. Cleavage will do that for you. I marched out the door still wearing the outfit, and texted Niall. I was in the middle of telling him about my fight with Paulo when I tripped over Harry hiding behind a trash can. His red sweat shirt's hood was pulled over his head, and I'd tripped over one of his legs that were sticking out from the metal can.

“Ugh, Harry?” I asked from the floor. I rubbed my ankle where I'd twisted it. “What're you doing?”

Harry glared at me and put a finger to his lips. He then grabbed me and tugged me beside him.

“I'm hiding from Taylor,” He explained. “She thinks we're dating.”

I snorted with laughter, but soon shut up when I heard Taylor's high pitched voice yelling Harry's name.

Harry looked like his blood had run cold. He started to get up and run, but I grabbed him and held him still.

“Oh no, you're going to face her like a man!” I snapped. “Go talk to her and sort this out, I am so not letting you run away from this!”

Harry glared at me a moment, then his expression turned panicky when Taylor's footsteps sounded closer.

“Please!” He begged. “I'll do anything you like, just let me go!”

I shook my head. “Go talk to her!”

I stood and pulled Harry toward the sound of Taylor's voice. Harry struggled against me as I dragged him down the hall.

“Harry? Is that you?” Taylor called as she rounded a corner. She stopped when she saw Harry and I, and she smiled. She really looked like a sweetheart.

“Oh, hey Kelly!” She said brightly. I grinned at her. “I found Harry, here you go!” I replied. I shoved a downcast Harry at her and waved them off. Taylor took Harry's hand and tugged him down the hall, Harry looking back over his shoulder and mouthing Help Me! As Taylor chattered away.

I shook my head at him and watched the couple walk off. I had to be in the rec room in fifteen minutes , and it would take me nearly that long to get there.

It was time for me to help the rest of the contestants with their songs, which I was dreading. I hated having to do this. To listen to them talk about winning, when I already knew who would win. How would their faces look when the announcer said they were going home?

I sat in the rec room with everyone for a long time. I played songs on my guitar for each act to hear, and let them scroll through my phones Country play list to find songs that they liked. Conan really liked Easy by Rascell Flats, and wanted to do a duet with me but we eventually decided against it.

It took several hours before everyone figured out a song that they liked. Ryan was doing 'Hey Pretty Girl' by Kip Moore and Conan was doing 'My Kinda Party', Jasen Aldean. I know, it was a stretch but he sounded amazing when he sang it. And Heartbreakers were doing Mama's Broken Heart.

Boxing Beats were a little difficult, as all three boys liked different styles of music and they all wanted to do different songs. I finally put my foot down and forced them to choose between two songs, Wanted and Pirate Flag.

But then Charles got the bright idea of doing a duet with Darren, and I drew a blank on songs.

I finally just called Vanessa and made her put me on the phone with her country music loving brother, Jay. He started naming off tons of older style country songs that I'd never heard before, and I couldn't get him to stop rambling on and on about them. Vanessa eventually wrestled the phone away from him and called her cousin instead. And not even two seconds after she'd asked him what country songs would have rap in them he said the new version of Cruise by Florida-Georgia Line.

I face palmed. It was the perfect song and I felt like an idiot. And of course the boys loved the song as soon as they'd listened to it.

I hung up on Vanessa after promising to Skype her soon.

“Alright babe, I need to talk to you anyway.” She replied. I didn't pay much attention to her after that, as Jamie thought it'd be a good idea to tickle me to get my attention.

It took a long time for the boys to get the song down, and by that time I was exhausted. I was also extremely bored, and it was too early to got to sleep.

Ryan was with Natalie, Niall was with the boys doing something for the band, and I had nothing to do.

I eventually just grabbed my guitar, notebook, and pen and went out to the rec room's balcony. It was getting dark outside, and I flipped the lights on. The balcony was huge, with stone flooring and white metal railings. The lights were on lantern like posts about every five feet along the railing, spreading a soft glow. I sat down on one of the white cushioned chairs.

Songwriting sounded better then staring at the ceiling.

“Loved you once, love you still; always have, always will. Those words are all I need to be yours, forever.”

I strummed gently over the guitar. Maybe this would sound better on piano. I couldn't bring myself to move though, the star filled sky providing an amazing backdrop for the London skyline.

“Finally, my reality is better than my dreams. Oh baby. Did you know that no matter what you do, you drive me crazy? Your voice is the song I could listen to all day long. Sing me a song. Sing me a song about the way I make you feel.”

I almost missed the soft sound of the balcony door opening. I looked up with a smile at Niall, who perched on a woven chair. He looked exhausted. I knew he'd been meeting fans all day at the meet and greet.

“Don't stop on my account,” He said, gesturing to my guitar. “Carry on.”

I grinned at him and continued strumming the guitar, the background noise of cars honking and the road below us slightly soothing.

“By the way I'm wearing the smile that you gave me, you know I am speaking the truth. 'Cause when I look up baby, and you're already smiling, I know I'm so lucky I've got you.”

Niall's grin grew wider as I sang, and I grew more confident.

“I've got you. I've got you. I've got you to hold me, to kiss me, to love me, and forever ain't got nothing on you.

“Loved you once, love you still; always have, always will. Those words are all I need to be yours forever.”

I strummed one last time, letting the last chords ring out into the night. I met Niall's gaze squarely, not looking away.

He finally broke the silence. “How long have you been working on that?”

I shrugged. “Just now. It just came to me.”

Niall's eyes were shining, putting the stars to shame. “Who was it about?” He asked quietly, moving closer to me. His blue eyes shone with the light reflected from the lamps.

“You already know, dork.” I replied with a cheeky wink and a smile. He grabbed me and pulled me to my feet. I wrapped my arms around his waist, and his arms around my shoulders as he hugged me.

His head was buried in my neck, and we stood there for a long time not saying anything.

I read somewhere that when silence between two people is comfortable, you know you've found love. And I was sure I'd found that with Niall. And I knew I didn't have to say anything, because the look on his face told me that he felt the same.

I was rudely awoken in the middle of the night. Groaning, I rolled over and rubbed my eyes, confused on how I could see in the dark. I then realized that I'd fallen asleep with my laptop running, and Vanessa or Tina was trying to call me on Skype.

I quickly answered the call, yawning as I did so.

“Hey,” I started when their faces came up on the screen. “Sorry I didn't call y'all, I was really- Where the heck are you?!”

Tina and Vanessa burst into giggles, and instead of verbally answering they swung their camera around in a wide circle so I could see.

“Uh, Nessi, Tina?” I asked. “Why are you at the Heathrow Airport in London?”
