Soulcrusher

To make her alone

I groaned deeply as Simon told me for the fifth time that I had to behave. I knew how to behave, I just didn’t trust the person I was supposed to be behaving towards. We were currently walking into the building after Simon picked me up from my lunch, and I was still a little shaken up over what happened. I had tried to hide a part of my life from Simon, but as he had told me now, nothing goes unnoticed by him. It took me a few minutes to understand that he already knew about Craig, but I couldn’t understand why he didn’t act earlier.

As we got inside his office he told his secretary that he didn’t want to be disturbed. I followed him inside his office and closed the door behind me as he sat down in his chair. Not feeling like sitting, I stood in front of his desk, waiting for his lecture.

“Aren’t you going to scold me for jeopardizing our company, or something like that?” I tried not to flinch as he looked up at me with disappointed eyes. He had stayed quiet for such a long time that I was practically begging him to scold me, or just say anything.

“Why should I do that? You’re perfectly aware of what you’ve done, so I don’t have to tell you.” He sighed and put his head in his hands. I had the feeling that if this was new news to him, he would be furious at the moment.

“How long?” He slowly lifted his head and looked at me with tired eyes before shrugging and acting like he didn’t know what I was talking about.

“What do you mean how long?” He reassembled a stack of papers on his desk and avoided my gaze.

“You know what I’m talking about.” I put my hands on his desk and leaned forward to get a little closer to his face. “How long have you known about Craig?” He was quiet for a long time before looking back down at his hands and taking a deep breath.

“Since you went on a holiday with him the first time.” I stood up straight and stared at Simon with hurtful eyes.

“That’s one and half years ago.” He nodded his head slowly and I turned around to leave when he spoke up again.

“I understood that you wanted a normal life Nick.” I stopped with my hand on the doorknob and listened to his words. “At first I was angry that you didn’t tell me but I soon realized that you never chose this life. You were born the way you are, I had a choice.” Without turning around I spoke with a quiet voice, because I knew he could hear me.

“Why did you make me end it now?” I heard him stand up but he didn’t move from his spot.

“I couldn’t let this get out. Before Niall found out it was just me who knew, he told his band mates and we can’t control who they would’ve told.” Deciding I didn’t want to hear anymore I quickly opened the door and walked out of his office. I was so angry with everyone lately and it was only made worse when they made me break it off with Craig. Craig was my safe haven and now I didn’t even have that. Even though I felt nothing but hateful feeling towards Niall I decided it would do him good to see me alive. So I walked over to his room and found a guard outside. He gave me a once over before looking at my face like I was crazy for thinking I was going in there.

“Simon has told me to not let anyone in.” His words were simple and true, but I wanted into that room.

“Simon told me to come here. After all, isn’t he supposed to be in love with me?” The guard thought about what I said for a few seconds before opening the door and letting me in.

“Knock if you want out.” I nodded and he closed the door behind me harshly. I looked over to the bed where Niall was lying down, sleeping.

“Niall.” I tried to keep my tone light and friendly, even though it made me cringe. When he didn’t move I groaned silently and walked over to put a hand on his shoulder. As soon as my hand hit his shoulder he bounced up and before I knew it I was pinned against the bed with Niall on top of me. I was panting from the surprise and cursing myself for not keeping my shield up. None of us said anything as we both stared at each other. As Niall began to move in towards my face I turned my head to the side and cleared my throat.

“I think you can get off me now.” Fighting to keep my voice slightly on the friendly side, he reluctantly got off me.

“You shouldn’t sneak up on a vampire.” His words were harsh and I looked at him with confusion all over my face. Wasn’t he supposed to be in love with me?

“I’m sorry for the inconvenience. I could leave.” I made a motion to get up from the bed and walk to the door, and in a second Niall was in front of me.

“No!” My eyes widened at his sudden interest in keeping me in here and he shook his head as if he didn’t understand it either. “I mean, it’s kind of quiet in here and you never shut up so…” He trailed off his words and I looked at him with skeptical eyes.

“No need to sugar coat it darling.” My dry words made him smile and his smile made me almost smile. He had a tiny table with two chairs so I decided to sit down. Niall remained standing, staring at me as if I was going to disappear at any moment. I sighed and looked around the room to see that they had fixed it from this morning. It wasn’t beaten up anymore, and all of the stuff was in place. After what seemed like forever he spoke up.

“So I take it Simon found you.” Feeling the sad feeling resurface I looked at my hands as I spoke.

“Well you did give him the exact restaurant we were at.” I couldn’t hide my emotions, even though I tried to. Something about Niall was making me lose my walls.

“I didn’t mean to make you sad.” My gaze slowly lifted and I looked at him with a confused expression. I wasn’t quite sure what to make of him, and I sure didn’t understand his mood swings.

“Why do you care?” My words sounded harsher than I meant them to but he didn’t seem to notice. He simply shrugged and scratched the back of his neck.

“I just had an uneasy feeling, that’s it. Nothing more to it really.” I snorted and looked at him like I didn’t believe it, because I didn’t. Everything he had done so far was because he got a better deal out of it, so why would he do something selfless now?

“How are you feeling by the way?” I decided to change the subject since I wasn’t getting anywhere. “The boys told me you were pretty banged up.” I looked at my hands ashamed of what I had done to him this morning.

“I’m fine.” When I looked up he shrugged and sat down on the bed. “The pain’s gone now.” He shrugged again and looked at me with a strange expression. Not understanding why he was looking at me like that I looked away from him quickly.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” He cleared his throat but I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.

“Do you think you could get me a guitar?” My eyes snapped up to look at him because what he said was not what I had expected. It took me a few seconds to process his words until I finally nodded slowly.

“Uhm… I…” I didn’t know how to respond to his request and as I looked into his eyes I felt his longing emotion. “I’m sure I can make it happen.” I nodded and stood up from the chair. I refused to meet his gaze as I walked over to the door, I wasn’t quite sure I was going to be able to meet his gaze and leave. Niall really confused me and I was curious about how far I was able to push him this time, and I knew I couldn’t test that limit. When I was at the door I felt his hand on my wrist. As I turned around I was preparing myself to be attacked but when I looked at him he was looking at me with grateful eyes.

“Thank you.” I narrowed my eyes and stared at him without responding. “I mean it, thank you.” I shook my head and knocked on the door before speaking towards him.

“I haven’t gotten you the guitar yet.” He shrugged with a small smile on his lips as he let my wrist go and stepped back.

“It means a lot that you’re gonna try.” He smiled towards me as he sat down on the bed and the guard who had opened the door cleared his throat.

“Are you going out or staying in?” His tone was rather irritated but I didn’t notice because Niall’s behavior made me beyond confused.

“Out, I’m going out.” I turned around and walked out the door. Feeling like something wasn’t right I turned around just as the guard closed the door and saw Niall smirking with the most evilest grin ever.

Oh he’s good, he’s real good.
