We're on Fire

“Lookin’ good babe,” Harry tells me with a smirk, eyes slowly looking me up and down. I can’t help but roll my eyes. This was sure going to be one hell of a long night. He brings the ring in his lip between his teeth as he looks over at me. I take in a nervous breath and shift my eyes away from his to keep myself from staring at him.

“T-thanks,” I reply with a small smile on my face.

“We ready to get going? I’m ready for a drink,” Sadie questions as Liam wraps an arm around her waist and pulls her into his side.

I smile a bit as Liam nods his head and presses a kiss to her cheek. They were adorable, I had to admit. I stare at my feet for a minute or two before I lift my head up and jump a bit when I notice Harry staring at me. Why is he staring at me like that? Creep much?

“Sure,” I mutter softly in response.

I notice Harry nod his head and smile a bit. Liam and Sadie soon walk out the door. I guess we were heading to Neil’s or whatever his name was for a party. After the couple walk out, I begin to trail behind them, Harry in tow. As I walk outside, I didn’t even have to turn around because I felt his eyes on me. Did he have a staring problem or what? I didn’t like it whatsoever but I just continued on.

I follow Liam and Sadie to a black Chevy Avalanche that was parked in the driveway. I hear the faint click of a beep. Liam soon unlocks the car and we all get in. Liam takes his seat behind the wheel and Sadie in the front passenger side next to him. That meant I was in the back with Harry. Just great.. I think to myself; I let out a sigh as I pull open the door and climb up into the vehicle.

Once I take my seat, I begin to fix my dress a bit to make sure it covered my ass. I put on my safety belt as Harry gets in and slams the door shut. He takes his seat and pulls his safety belt across his chest. The back seat was somewhat a tight fit because there was a bunch of things in the seat and floor, few remnants of trash and other things. I sat right beside Harry and felt his eyes on me as the car begins to move.

I turn my gaze to look out the window to keep myself from staring at Harry. Even with my eyes looking out the tinted windows, I could still feel his eyes on me. I begin to think of how tonight was going to go, especially if I have to spend it with the guy beside me.

“So, Ashton, is this your first time going to a party like this?” Sadie asks a bit loudly which pulls me from my thoughts as I stare out the window. I turn to look over at her, my eyebrows raised a bit.

“Uh, yeah, it is, actually,” I say with a small smile.

“So, I take it you’re one of those girls,” Harry answers with a bit of an edge to his voice. What did he mean by that? Sadie and I exchange weird looks before we look over at Harry, our eyebrows raised in question.

“Shut it, Haz, don’t push it, mate. Leave her be,” Liam interjects and lets out a frustrated sigh from his lips as he continues to drive. I mentally thank him and smile a bit; he’s been my best friend for so long and I’m so thankful to have someone like him in my life.

I notice Harry mutter a “fine,” under his breath and roll his eyes. He sure seemed to have a temper on him, that’s for sure. But why though, from what? I shrug the thoughts from my mind and begin to quietly chat with Sadie as Liam drove to where we were headed. A few minutes later, I glance out the window to see what looked like Greek row from earlier.

Cars were parked everywhere, in front of houses, in drive ways and even in places they didn’t seem like they belonged. As we neared a place that was crowded with tons of people, I knew that was the place we were headed. Music was blasting through speakers and you could hear it from all the way down the street. I let out a sigh and look out the window.

“Where you gonna park, Li? Don’t look like we’ll find one ‘round here,” I hear Harry speak and can’t help but turn to look at him. He smirks as Liam reaches back to try and hit him or something. I cover my mouth with my hand to keep myself from laughing and trying to make it more obvious.

“I’ll go find one and I guess we’ll have to walk,” he replies in a bit of a smart tone.

The car soon slows to a stop and he turns it off. The four of us begin to pile out of his car. Harry climbs out before me and turns to help me out by holding out his hand. I hesitate for a minute or two before I reach out and grab hold of his hand. He tightened his grip on my hand a bit as he helps me out and I step down onto the asphalt.

“Thanks,” I mutter as I turn to shut the back door of the car. Liam presses a button on a key and I hear a faint beep along with a noise that meant the car was locked. Those two were ahead of where I was with Harry walking at my pace.

“No problem, babe,” he says in his deep voice.

Before too long, I notice we are making our way inside. As we walk in through the doors, I am surprised to see the place was crowded and that people were everywhere, red cups in hand. I lost Liam and Sadie the moment I walked inside with Harry. The strong smell of alcohol and smoke overtook my senses and I cough.

“Haz, you’re finally here, been lookin’ for ya! What’s goin’ on, man? Who’s the pretty lass ya got with ya?” a blond lad walks up to us and smiles. On his head, he wore a snapback backwards. He was wearing a tank top and some jeans. Just like Harry’s two other mates I met earlier, and Liam, he had piercings and tats as well that cascaded down both of his arms. In both of his hands, he had two cups filled with beer or something.

Harry grabs one of the drinks from him and takes a long sip. “Hey Niall! We just got ‘ere. Oh, this is Ashton, the one I told ya ‘bout,” he tells the blond guy before taking another sip of his drink. The boy, Neil or whatever his name is, smiles and I notice his eyes widen as he hears my name. I smile nervously at him and turn to find Harry looking at me.

“Nice t’ meet ya babe, I’m Niall,” he says and looks at me before bringing his lip ring in between his teeth.

“What kinda name is Neil?” I laugh.

“It’s Nile, babe, like the Nile River,” he tells me.

“Oh,” I mutter as I stand there with Harry and Niall for a few minutes before Harry opens his mouth to speak.

“C’mon, babe, let’s get you a drink, don’t just stand there,” he reaches for my hand and I pull back immediately, eyes wide. I shake my head and cross my arms over my chest.

“I don’t drink,” I snap at him.

All he does is chuckle before grabbing hold of my arm. I am soon being pulled by a guy I barely met into a big kitchen. On a counter was a keg or whatever it was called. When we reach the counter, a voice calls out to Harry through the loud sound of music and people’s chatter.

“Harry! What’s up, bro? Who’s the bird ya got with ya? She’s quite a looker, mate,” his friend questions him as he gives him a bro hug. He was tall with dark hair and bright blue eyes. Beside him was a petite girl, like me, with blonde hair and hazel eyes that were bloodshot. I smile and laugh a bit as I look at the stumbling drunk girl.

“Not much, Drew, same ‘ole, same ‘ole. She is, ain’t she?” he tells the guy, Drew, with a smirk.

“This,” he turns to me and wraps one of his strong arms around my waist, pulling me into his side. “Is Ashton, mate. She just moved in with Liam and I, they’re best friends or some shit,” he finishes as I try to push his arms away from my waist. He just chuckles and tightens his grip.

“I can speak for myself, ya know?” I reply with an edge to my voice as I look at him, eyebrows furrowed together. Before I can get another word in to bash him even more, he removes his arm and grabs a cup from the bar.

“No need to be cocky, babe,” he mutters with a smirk as he pours liquor in the red cup. After he fills it up, he holds it out to me. I shake my head, telling him no and don’t move to take the cup from him.

“Think you’ll like it, but ya won’t know ‘til you try first off,” he tells me with a smirk as he passes it over to me and reaches over to grab his red cup on the bar and takes a sip.

“Maybe I don’t want any,” I tell him in a sharp tone. Can’t he get the picture? If I don’t want any, I don’t want it. A few minutes go by and we don’t say anything to each other. He soon opens his mouth to say some stupid remark but I reach and take the cup from his grip, contents spilling down the sides on to the floor.

“Fine, guess I’ll try some,” I say as I bring the cup up to my lips and take a small sip.

“Stop with the whole ‘babe act, you hardly even know me that well, plus, we just met anyways,” I mutter as he smiles.

“That’s what I intend on doing, love,” he whispers as he leans forward toward my ear, “and I know you will, too, they always do,”

I shudder under his touch and feel him smirk against the skin on the side of my neck under my ear. He pulls away as I take another sip of the beer. It wasn’t half bad but one will do. I rest my elbow on the counter as he begins to fill his cup up again but stops when someone grabs onto his arm from behind. I furrow my brows as a girl comes forward, latching onto his arm.

“H-Harry, y-you’re h-here,” the girl rattles off in an annoying voice. I glance over at Harry to see him rolling his eyes. She looked smashed, red hair a long mess that fell past her shoulders in a skimpy dress that barely covered her ass. The girl had some tattoos on her shoulders and a few face piercings, a stud in her nose, a Monroe and one in her lip.

“Hey Lindsay,” he mutters as she wraps one of her arms around his torso.

He mumbles something under his breath I couldn’t quite understand and tries to push her off him. This girl is one I’ve never liked; I don’t even know her but I’ve never liked girls who are clingy around guys. I’m glad I’ve never been like that, when I’ve had a boyfriend, which is never.

“W-what’s g-going on? I’ve b-been w-waiting for you to get here all night,” she tells him and takes his hand in hers. I scoff and can’t help but let out a laugh. I hope neither of them heard me but I doubt it since it’s so damn loud in here. He soon pushes her off him and crosses his arms over his chest.

“I’m actually here with someone,” he tells her in an annoyed tone before he grabs me by the waist and pulls me to his side. My eyes go wide as I am pulled into his side, one of his hands resting on my hip, gradually moving it lower, and I frown at that. I, then, try to make him move his hand away but it doesn’t work.

“O-oh, w-who’s she?” the girl, Lindsay, asks and takes a sip from some red cup she held in her grasp. I look from her back to Harry, who still had a hold on my waist. As I feel his eyes back on me, I notice him bite his plump pink lip, tugging a bit on his ring.

“This is Ashton. She’s best mates with Liam, and just moved in with us, she’s new to campus,” he tells the blond girl and I feel him tighten his grip on my waist.

“She’s pretty,” Lindsay says with a smirk. Harry nods his head and brings his cup up to his lips with his open hand. She soon walks off, leaving me with Harry. I can’t help but hear him mumble a few curses slip from his mouth she walks off.

“Mind removing your arm; be nice if you’d stop trying to grope me,” I snap and push his arm away from me. He just smirks before removing his arm slowly from around my waist.

“Want to go somewhere quiet? It’s loud as fuck in here, kind of wanted to talk, get to know you better,” he leans over to my ear. I shudder under his touch once again as his hot breath hits the side of my neck. A few minutes go by before I am giving him a slow nod in return. It was a bit too loud in here, and I did kind of want to talk a bit. That’s what you’re supposed to do at these things, right? He grabs hold of my hand, drink in the opposite hand.

We soon reach the stairs and are just about to make our way up when someone else calls out for Harry, yet again. “Harry!” both of us turn and I recognize one of the guys from earlier, the one with brown hair and blue eyes, when he was showing me around.

“Where you goin’ mate? We’re ‘bout to do some shots and a game! Won’t be as fun without you! Bring your girl, too!” he shouts back to Harry and I.

Before I can bring myself to speak, Harry answers for the both of us, a smile on his lips as he opens his mouth, “Sure, man! I’m down! C’mon, Ash,” he finishes and smiles before reaching for my hand. I am soon being dragged to a huge open room where there were a few dozen people sat in a circle.

Harry leads me over to an open spot on the floor, beside that blonde guy, Niall, I think, and a girl with light brown hair and some piercings, who sat on his lap. Harry sits down and pats the place beside him. I let out a sigh before I take a seat next to him and set my cup in front of me, careful to spill it.

After taking a few vodka shots, that’s when the loud guy from earlier, I think is Louis, begins to say something, “Who’s up for a round or two of Never Have I Ever?” he asks the group. In the center was a tray with a bunch of shot glasses filled all the way up with liquor.

Loud hollers and hoots are heard all around as Louis rejoins the circle next to the mysterious looking one from earlier. As some of them yell things out, I look around the circle for Liam and Sadie. I soon catch Liam’s eye and he smiles a bit and mouths something to me, “having a good time?” and smiles a bit. I nod and smile a bit, simply telling him I was having a pretty good time so far, without opening my mouth.

“Alright…” he says and begins to look around the room. “Who wants to start off the game?” he questions loudly and I freeze when he looks at me, eyes wide. He couldn’t be serious, could he? It was going to be a disaster, I can already tell, and the night isn’t near over yet.
