Chapter Nine

Amber’s POV

Liam, Chasity, and I sat on the large couch, where Harry is sitting at the end. Liam sat next to him, I sat next to Liam, and Chasity sat next to me, at the other end. Louis, Zayn, and Niall were cleaning the lollipops as SpongeBob played another episode, but I couldn’t focus on the television, nor the three boys groaning in annoyance for having to count the amount of lollipops that they have thrown at me by mistake earlier.

My mind went back to when I awoke again, after my, well… Dream? Or nightmare? It’s not night time… I wasn't asleep. My flashback? I don’t think it’s from my past. Vision? Yeah, let’s leave it at that for now. That vision, and all of the other ones are starting to scare me, sending chills all the way down to the bones. These visions, the girl, she seems familiar, more like Hope, but I won’t think that way. Hope shouldn’t get hurt… She isn’t hurt, she was never hurt… Right?

Wait. The girls... I feel a strong arm around my shoulders, and I looked to my left to see a concerned Liam.

“Are you alright, Amber?” He asks me. Everyone’s eyes fell on me.

“What time is it?” I call out. We look to Harry who had his phone already out, but gave no response. Zayn sighed and pulled out his phone.

“11:58, why-" Oh great. Just great. I'm late. I cut him off by getting off the couch, and running into my room.

“Ugh... no no no no…” I mumbled as I ran to my room, changing into a t-shirt and jeans. I grabbed my jacket, some running sneakers, and the car keys. I speed walked back down the stairs and saw all eyes on me.

“Out for a jog?” Niall asks. I shook my head.

“I have to pick up the girls.” I replied to Niall. I then looked over to Chasity, pointing at her. “You’re in charge.” The boys, except Harry of course, groaned.

“Why can’t I be in charge, I’m the oldest!” Louis whined like a child, pouting.

“That’s exactly why.” I said, smirking before going out the door, calling out my goodbyes, hearing them repeat it back to me before I closed the door.

When I reached my car and wrapped my fingers around the door handle, I heard a click, followed by another, and multiple ones right after. I looked in the windows reflection and saw people standing behind me, on the lawn with cameras. I turned around and was greeted with a bright flash. I used my jacket to cover the blinding light from my sight. My phone began to vibrate in my jean pocket multiple times. Before I was able to reach down and grab it, the people with the cameras came closer to me, beginning to fire off questions at me.

Is it true that One Direction are in your house?

What’s your name?

How old are you?

Are you dating Harry or Niall?

I covered my face with my jacket, only for it to be removed by one of the men forcefully. I was about to reach out for it, but the blinding light came back. I shielded my eyes with the bend of my arm, and started taking steps back onto my car. I felt one of them grasp my arm, but could not see, and began to tug at it, signaling me to show them my face. I heard my door open, many more questions being fired off, and multiple clicking.

Harry is this your girlfriend?

What’s her name Harry?

Is she a one-time thing?

Are you and the guys staying with her?

Many more similar questions were fired, but I was not able to catch most of them, as Harry, I think, since that’s who all of the questions were targeted at, came and put me under his arm.

“Keep your head down and don’t answer anything.” He whispered to me, as the amount of people on the lawn increased by the dozen. Harry guided us back in the house, and once we were safely inside, I let out a large breath that I didn’t realize I was holding in. The boys rushed to me, Chasity close behind.

“Are you alright, Amber?” Harry asked, leaning against the door, running a hand through his curly hair. This was the first thing he has said to me since our small argument earlier. I nodded my head, patting myself down, for any scrapes or bruises, since I was still in a tank top and jeans. My running sneakers were on, my phone was in my pocket, and my car keys were in my tight grasp. I paused as I remembered my jacket.

“They took my jacket.” I said to him as Liam walked around the windows, shutting the curtains all the way.

“For fuck's sake...” Liam mumbled as he closed the last window to the front of the house.

“Good luck getting that back…” Niall said quietly with a sincere face. I shrugged.

“Its alright. I think I have another one somewhere…I think.“ I pondered, walking over to a closet in the hallway.

“I’ll buy you a new one.” Harry says suddenly, stopping me.

“Harry, you-“ I started but he cuts me off.

"No, really. We should have known by now that they,” Harry points to the door behind him, meaning the paparazzi, “would follow us here. It’s the least we could do.” He finished, shrugging and stuffing his hands in his pockets. None of the other guys protested, but instead nodded their heads in agreement. I sighed.

“Alright, but I will pay you back.“ Louis held up his hand, as if telling me to stop.

“Bambi, don’t worry about it. Let Harold here take you out and get you a new jacket. The one that got taken away from you, is not coming back, that’s for sure.” He said, putting that hand that he held up on my shoulder, giving me one of his faces that reads ‘You know I’m right.’ I hesitantly nodded. He smiled once I did, and brought his hands together. “Good.”

“But I still need to get out there, I need to get the girls.” I said, looking at Chasity, who had a worried face.

“Where are the girls?” Harry asked, removing himself from the door and walking over to join the rest of us.

“At a friend’s house for a sleepover last night. I need to pick them up.” I said to him. He nodded in understanding.

“I’ll drive.” He walked over to the bag that the guys brought for him, pulling out one of his light jackets, and handing it to me.

“Harry, I-“

“Come on, Amber. Do you want to get them or not?” He cuts me off once more, slightly annoying me. He opens the door to check to see if the coast was clear. I looked to everyone else and the guys nodded their heads, while Chasity shrugged. I threw on the jacket, zipped it up, and joined Harry at the door.

“Be careful.” Liam called out to us, but mostly to Harry as he opened the door fully. Harry gave him a slight smirk and wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

“Alright, just like I said before, head down, don’t answer questions, okay?” I nodded my head. “Can you unlock the car from here?” He asked me. I nodded my head and did as he asked. I slightly buried my head into Harry’s chest, Harry’s hand gently caressing my head, and keeping his low as well as we stepped out and made our way to the car. The paparazzi came back, and began to ask more questions.

Are you guys dating?

Harry, is she the one?

How was it last night?

Is that Harry’s jacket you are wearing?

What is your name?

Give us your name!

Can we have a picture of your face, sweetheart?

The man that asked that last question put his hand on my arm, trying to separate me from Harry with a hard grip causing me to hiss, but failing as Harry pulled me closer to him, his grip tightening on me, but not enough to hurt me. Once we reached my car, he opened the door for me to enter the passenger seat.

“Keep your head down, alright?” He said to me as I nodded. When I was completely in the car, he closed the door behind me, and I immediately placed my head on my lap, shielding my face from the people outside, snapping pictures. I heard the driver’s door open, and quickly close. He bent down to my ear, and I felt his warm breath fan my left side of my face.

“May I have the keys?” He whispers. I stuck my hand out and handed him the keys. Soon, the ignition started, and I felt the car moving. I don't know how far we are, but it felt like forever.

“Alright, you can sit up now.” He tells me after a couple minutes. I sat up, and saw that we were on the main road. I put on my seat belt, and looked back, seeing the people start to take pictures of the car, as they became smaller and smaller before they were out of sight. I faced forwards again, slightly slouching and sighing while running my hand through my hair.

“Do you always go through that?” I asked, breaking the silence. He nodded his head.

“More often than it should.” He spoke nonchalantly. I nodded my head in understanding. “So, where are we going?” he asked, as we stopped at a red light.

“I’ll tell you when to turn.” I responded, and looked around, seeing where we were. “Yeah, this is a long road, I will let you know.” I added. He nodded and started to drive when the light turned green.

I looked to my arm, where the man grabbed me only moments earlier. The fabric still had the hand print, so I stretched the sleeve slightly so that it would disappear and the fabric would even out. Harry noticed me staring at my arm by looking at me quickly before turning his attention to the road.

“Are you alright? Did he hurt you?” He asked quickly.

“No he didn't, I'm alright.” We were coming up on the street to turn. “Turn right at the next block.” He focused on the street and took the turn. He drove slightly slower as he noticed me looking at the streets. “Here.” I said, pointing at a street. He turned as I said. “There’s the house.” I said, pointing at the large grey house, surrounded by large bushes which act like a fence. There was a beautiful garden and a brick path that led to the front door. Harry parked the car in front of the house, and turned off the ignition.

“Alright. I am going to warn you now that they practically grew up listening to your music, so they may fan girl around you when they see you.” I said, warning him. He smirked.

“Like how you did without speaking?” He jokes. I rolled my eyes.

“Wow how funny. No. Quite opposite actually.” I said as I removed the seat belt. I was about to open the door, until Harry’s hand was on my elbow, stopping my actions. I turned to face him.

Harry’s POV

“What is it, Harry?” She asked me. Ever since I snapped at her this morning, it really brought my mood down, but I shouldn't have done that. I know it was wrong, and I shouldn't have pushed it. When she and Liam joined me at the couch, I kept looking at the contact name, silly I know. My mind kept telling me; Do it Harry. Tell her you are sorry for snapping at her and your a dick for doing so.

“I’ll be ready for it.” I said. Mental face palm. Really, Harry? You can’t say sorry? She nodded slowly, a beautiful smile forming on her pink lips as she began to reach for the handle to open the door. Do it Harry! I pulled her back again. She looked at me, now confused.

“Yes Harry?” she asked me. I love the way she says my name in her American accent. “Harry?” She says again. Butterflies form inside my stomach, flying everywhere. Tell her you are sorry!

“Look, I’m sorry for the way I acted to-" I started but she cuts me off.

“Don’t be, it’s alright Harry. Really.” She said, smiling slightly.

“But I feel bad about it.” I pouted.

“You shouldn’t.” She replied. I sighed, releasing my face from the pout, running my hand through my hair.

“Look... What I am saying is, how about I show you how sorry I am by taking you out to buy that jacket, and maybe grab something to eat afterwards?” I finally spit out in one breath. I sighed the remainder of air in my lungs, knowing that I can’t go back with this. She looks at me with an unreadable expression. "Did I say something wrong?" I ask after she stays silent. After a few more seconds of silence, she speaks quietly.

“Harry, once I bring the girls home, I have to get ready for work in an hour today.” She mumbled.

“We can make it in an hour, and if your boss disagrees with it, I will let him or her know.” I said with a smile. She immediately stiffens when I mentioned her boss. She shakes her head rapidly. My eyebrows scrunch up in confusion. “Why not?” I ask.

“I don’t think it’s a good idea. My boss doesn’t like tardy people…” She trails off.

“I will be your excuse. Please?!” I said. I must really look desperate right now but I don’t care… I was doing some research all morning on my phone, and may have been texting my mum for advice... After calming her down of course that I am seeing someone new... One way that a person can prevent these phases that she is going through in her mind is by keeping her mind busy, and hopefully, this date would work. Well, I don't know if I should say date, but a hangout.. This is something that I could do. My way to help her. She stays silent for another minute, a debate going on in her head.

“Alright, b-” She says, but my smile and fist pump cuts her off. She chuckles at me and I stop to let her continue.

“But?” I ask once I cooled down.

“But, can we try to get there as soon as possible?” She asks me. I nod my head. She smiles. “Alright. I’m going to get the girls, I will leave them at home with the boys and Chasity, and I will get ready, sound good?” I just continue to nod, speechless that she agreed. She laughs but gets out of the car anyways.

Once the door closed behind her, I slouched down in the seat, so much weight was lifted off of me as I watched her walk to the front door, her small fist knocking on it. She said yes. I sigh loudly. I looked over to her, and once the door opened, a woman that looked in her mid-30’s answered the door, greeting her. They talked for a bit, even though I could not hear a word. Then two very young girls ran at the door, hugging Amber’s legs, looking up at her.

The smaller one tugged on her, well, my jacket, and Amber picked her up, placing a kiss on her cheek. They had their pillows and blankets on the floor around Amber, and I could tell she was telling them to pick it up. The woman gestured inside the house, but Amber shook her head, using her thumb to point behind her shoulder, as the attention of the woman turned from her to the car, and me. She looks at me with a puzzled face, and I just wave kindly. She waved back with a smile and I could tell that they were in conversation about me.

The girls looked up at Amber, and the one that she was holding began to squirm in her hold. She sets her down and they both began to run towards the car. I watched intently to make sure that they wouldn’t fall over, since they were running pretty fast for young children. The woman and Amber were watching as well, laughing. Amber then started to pick up the discarded pillows and blankets and waved to the woman, saying goodbye before walking back to the car as well. Amber was stopped by the woman, as she held out two Ziploc bags, containing toothbrushes. She turned back to grab them, no doubt thanking her, before coming back.

The girls reached the car, safely, and looked at me through the passenger window. I looked at Amber and she was mouthing something to me. It looked like ‘Lock’, so I locked the car. They were jumping with happiness when they recognized me, and I covered my eyes, playing peek-a-boo. When I removed my hands, Amber reached the car, and muffled voices were heard.

“Harry will unlock the car, only and only if you guys can carry your stuff that you left behind for me to carry.” They immediately grabbed their belongings out of her grasp and held them tightly. She looked at me through the same window and nodded. I smiled and unlocked the car, the girls jumping in the back seat, squealing and screaming.

“Hawy Styles!!! Omg!!!” The older one screams. I smiled and waved.

“Hello loves. How was the sleepover?” I asked them.

“It was great! We played games, colored pictures, watched TV, and we even ate lots of cookies and chocolate milk before we went to bed!” She says while the younger one nods her head, smiling at me.

“Hawy?” The younger one asks.

“Yes… What is your name?” I said, as I realized I never got their names.

“Amber didn’t tell you about us didn’t she? She doesn’t talk bout her sises!” The older one complains, crossing her arms, looking at Amber as she climbed in, after making sure that the girls were buckled in. The older one sat in the seat behind the passenger seat, and the younger one sat behind me.

“Of course I do. I just had much to do, that’s all.” She said to her. She turns to me after putting on her seat belt. “Hawy, I-I mean Harry,” I laugh as she calls me Hawy like her sisters.

“Yes Ambey?” I ask in return. She just rolls her eyes.

“This is Charisa,” She gestures to the older one. “And this is Hope.” She gestures to the younger one.

“Hello, you know I’m Harry, you can call me Hawy though, its alright.” I said with a smile. I turn to face ‘Hope’.

“Now, what is it that you wanted, Hope?” I asked her. She smiles as I said her name.

“Curls?” She says as she extends her hands out to me from her seat. I smiled even wider as I quickly shifted in my seat, careful not honk the horn and moved my head close enough for her to pet my hair. I'm a sucker for children. When I have my first kid she/he is going to be spoiled rotten. I looked down to her small feet and I felt another pair of small hands pet my hair, so ‘Charisa’ must be doing the same. I jumped slightly when I felt a third, so I tilted my head to the left to see Amber extending her hand into my hair, playing with one of the closets curls in her finger. She looked at me, and quickly retreated her hand. I smirked at her as she cleared her throat.

“Harry, if you want to get going, the sooner the better.” She said quietly so only I heard it. I slowly removed my head from their grasp, hearing them whine as I sat back in my seat was breaking my heart.

“Sorry girls, but its time to get you guys home, don’t you think? The rest of the boys are there.” I said, as they both screamed.

“LET’S GO!” They said in unison, which made me laugh. I turned the car back on, and looked to Amber with a smile still on my face. A smile slowly formed on hers as well.

“What?” She asks.

“They aren’t as bad as you. If anything, better.” I said, using her words, and flipping them around. She rolled her eyes and lightly punched my arm, before getting comfortable in her seat.

“Just go.” She shrugs, smiling completely. I turned to face her sisters.

“Did you see that? She hit me… Your sister is a bully.” I said, pouting. They began to scold their sister on why she shouldn’t hit me. I laughed as Amber quietly begins to talk to me.

“Was that seriously necessary?” She asks sternly. I nod. She slowly nods with me. “Alright, maybe I will change my mind on that offer then…” She trails off as she slowly looks out the window. My eyes widen and I look back to them, awkwardly laughing.

“Alright, I think she got the point.. Thank you loves.” I said, smiling so my dimples were showing. They both squealed when they saw them. I turn back and shifted the gear into drive, but did not move the car. I looked at Amber. Did she really just change her mind on me like that?

“I didn’t change my mind, don’t worry. But let’s move before I really do.” She says reading me like a book, gesturing the outside. I quickly put the car in motion and made our way back.
