Dreams vs. Reality

Chapter Ten

Amber’s POV:

Once we pulled out onto the street of my house, I noticed that the paparazzi were wandering the streets, peering into the cars in front of us as we drove closer to the house. I began to have an uneasy feeling in my stomach.

“Harry…” I started.

“I know, I know. Just keep your head low.” He quietly says.

“Ambi, why are there lots of people? Is there a parade coming?!!” She cheers, jumping in her seat at the mention of a parade. I shook my head.

“Girls, when we get out of the car, I want to you to stay quiet and cover your faces, okay girls?"

“Why?” They both whined.

“Girls. No complaining. Just do what I say, alright?” I said, turning in my seat to face them. They nodded their heads in understanding. I sat back in my seat correctly, and looked at Harry as he looked into the rear-view mirror.

“Don’t worry, this will be over before you know it. Actually… Amber?” He said, snapping his fingers, as if a light bulb went off in his head.

“What?” I responded.

“Call Liam, and-" He was cut off by the girls screaming. Harry smirked, but continued. “Tell him to get ready to open the door.” I pulled out my phone and did as he said.

“Hello Amps.” Liam greeted me once he answered the phone.

“Hey, Li. Can you do me a favor?” I asked him.

“Of course.” He said happily.

“Can you stand by the door, and when you see us, open it?”

“Definitely. Are you almost here?”

“Yeah, I’m on the street. A couple houses away actually.” I respond, before hearing noises from his end.

“Alright, I’m at the door now. Ready for your arrival, ma'am.” He jokes, making me chuckle.

“Okay. See you in a bit, good sir!” Harry looks over at me with a questioning look, and I just shake my head, face palming my forehead.

“See you soon.” I pressed end call and placed the phone into my back pocket as smoothly as I can. I can still feel his gaze on me. "Don't even ask." I tell him with an awkward chuckle... He laughs at me and shakes his head. As we came closer to the house, more people began to crowd the street, making me nervous for the girls. They could literally do anything to us, and that scares me.

“Alright girls, cover your pretty faces and don’t answer any questions that you hear, okay?” Harry instructs as we pull up to the house. The flashing lights began to go off, and the girls squealed at the sight, pressing their hands against the glass, no doubt leaving finger prints.

“Cover your faces, girls.” Once the car came to a full stop, the people began to crowd around the car. Great. Harry and I took off our seat belts, and I was about to reach for the door handle until Harry reached across me and removed my hand.

“Don’t. Let me.” Before I could question, he opened his door and exited the car, telling the people to stand back as he made his way to my door. Once my door opened, I was able to hear the shutters of the cameras, and the questions being shouted at us at full volume.

"Who are they?" One immediately fires off.

"What are their names?" Another one asks.

"Are they your kids, Harry? They're gorgeous!"

"How old are they? Who's the mother?"

We both headed to where the girls were, and took one each. Harry took Hope and I took Charisa. We buried their heads into the crook of our necks and used our free hand to cover what was still visible of their faces. I had to use my available hand to cover both of Charisa’s and I’s faces, which was difficult since Charisa's head was continuously peeking out from time to time, taking in the view of people crowding around us. Harry walked in front of me, guiding me through the crowd that only seemed to be closing in on us by the second as we continued to move.

"Give us your names sweetie!" One of the people asked, coming close to our faces. Harry moved so Hope's face was covered completely, and giving him a free hand to bring me closer to him on our walk to the door.

"How old are you? How old are they?"

"Are you relatives to Harry? Where are you from?"

"Are you visiting him? For how long?"

"Are you close with Harry? Do you like him?"

Okay, that last one was pretty dumb. Obviously, if we didn’t like Harry, we wouldn’t be with him right now. The door swung open and Harry and I walked inside the house. Once Liam shut the door behind us, I let out a breath of relief. We were safe. I set down Charisa who went to go hug Harry's legs. Looking through the peep hole, the number of Paparazzi were now slowly going down, while the more persistent ones stayed walking on the streets. Liam soon says hello, making the girls run to him, hugging his legs tightly as they did to Harry moments earlier.

“Liam!!!” They both squealed.

“Hello loves, you two must be Amber’s sisters. Its very nice to meet you.” He said to them kindly as he took a knee and hugged them both.

“DID I HEAR SOMEONE SAY SISTERS??” I heard Louis just scream loudly from the living room.

“Well, hello to you too Tommy!!” I yell back. I heard him shuffle his way into the hall, before finally seeing him peering in through the door to the living room and look at me with disgust. "Hello, Bambi..." Louis said dully, making me chuckle. Liam poked the girls in their sides.

“Wait, who’s that?” He whispered to them, pointing in Louis’ direction. They both became wide eyed as they came into their view

“Lewwis!!” They both said in unison, releasing Liam and running towards Louis, the sound of scattered feet and giggles echoed into the hallway. Liam, Harry and I began to laugh so hard as Louis' face drops and begins to scoff.

“Of course… ‘Lewwis’." He says sassily, rolling his eyes, making me cross my arms at him. He sees me like this and holds his hands up in surrender. "Alright. That’s okay.” He gestures the girls to run into the living room, where I’m guessing everyone else is.

I walked in to see the rest of the guys greet my sisters, smiles all over. The living room however, was trashed. The lollipops were all over the place, the sofa cushions and throw pillows were on the floor, blankets were scattered everywhere, and multiple bowls of popcorn were on the table with cups. I looked over to Chasity who was sitting next to Niall, unaware of my presence. She seemed to be in a deep conversation with him. It almost makes me feel bad for interrupting. But this is my parent's house and if they see a mess I'm going to be in trouble.

“Chase!” I said, breaking their little moment. She looked at me annoyed, but once she took in her surroundings, she blushed.

“Sorry Ambos. I’ll get this place cleaned up. We were going to watch a movie.” She said, getting up from her spot on the floor, and picking up the room, Niall close behind her. I smiled at them, knowing something is going on. I will find out what it is for sure, sooner or later. I felt a tap on my shoulder, and turned my head to the side to see Harry. He leaned in, close to my face to the point where I felt his hot breath hit my neck.

“We are running low on time here…” He whispered into my ear. I went wide eyed. Oh yeah, he is supposed to take me out shopping.

“Sorry. Give me like ten minutes.” I said, rushing upstairs taking a quick shower, putting on my work uniform, and finding my other jacket that was buried deep inside my closet.

After countless minutes, I decided to go without one. Its still summer, so it will warm up later in the day. Hopefully by now, at least. As I began to walk across my room to get to the door, my legs failed to work, and I yelped as I fell down, using my hands to stop the impact to the floor. I get to a kneeling position in front of my shut door, and let my mind do what it wants. I have learned to not fight it too hard, as it will only make things worse.

I open my eyes and see the little girl, a little older now, going through her clothes. The mother stood at the door, tapping her foot impatiently.

“Will you please hurry up and pick something already?” The mother says under her breath.

“I want to look nice, mommy.” She responds, as she throws on a shirt, before looking in the mirror.

“No matter what you wear, you will still look the same. It doesn’t matter. It won’t make you better. If you try, it will just look worse on you. Put on some shoes and let’s go.” She says in a furious tone, dragging out the last word.

“But, isn’t it cold outside?” She asks her.

“No. You can deal with it. Its not that cold. Now come on.” She leaves the girl in the room alone to attempt to tie her own shoes. The door receives three knocks, before a male voice echoes through the room.

“When you finish, get in the car. We will be waiting for you there, got it?” he said, while leaning on the door frame. He watches her struggle with the laces on her shoe, but does not help her.

“Yes dad.” She responds so quietly I almost missed what she said.

“What?” He asks, taking a step in the room.

“Yes dad. I will be in the car.” She says, a little louder. He nodded and left the room. Three more knocks on the door were heard, but there was no one. Strange, I could have sworn that I heard more knocks.

“Amber?” A voice said from the opposite end of my door, snapping me out of the vision. I shake my head, and began to stand up slowly, using the door for support. “Amber, are you alright?” The voice says again. It then clicked in my head that it was just Harry.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said, reaching for the door handle, but quickly stopping myself. I reached for Harry's jacket that warmed me up and held it in my left hand, while opening the door with my right. Harry’s fist was held in the air, his head hung low as if his ear was pressed against the door that was once closed. Once he saw my feet, he looked up, a concerned look on his face.

“Are you alright?” He asks me again. I nodded my head, and handed him the jacket. He stared at it for a moment before shaking his head.

“Keep it.” He said, handing it back.

“But we’re going to get a new one for me.” I said, giving it to him back once more.

“That doesn’t mean you can’t have more than one. You can count that as a souvenir.” He said, smirking while draping it on me. He snapped his fingers. “Wait.” He entered my room and went through my desk, finding a sharpie. He reached his hand out for the jacket. I took it off and handed it back to him. A chuckle sound escaping my lips as he looks at it for a minute before finding the tag. He crossed something out on it, writing something on top before handing it back to me. I looked inside and I saw that his name was crossed out, and written on top was my name. I smiled lightly.

“Thank you.” I thanked him. He nodded his head.

“No problem. Now, how about we go get that jacket?” He says, stepping back so I can walk in front of him. I made sure I had my phone in my pocket still and walked out of my room, with Harry close behind me. I heard the girls laughing so I went to check on them, and let them know I will be out.

Charisa sat on Zayn’s lap and Hope was on Louis’. Niall sat between the two, and Liam sat at the right of Louis, playing with Hope. A smile came across my face at the sight in front of me. They are fine. Chasity appeared from the Kitchen, holding a couple of bags of chips. She walks over to Niall and hands him one of the bags. He smiled and thanked her, before digging into his, glancing at one another with small smiles every once in a while. I cleared my throat to get everyone’s attention.

“I will be out with Harry at the mall, and going to work right after… Do you guys want to stay here and-"

“Yes!” Niall said, cutting me off mid-sentence.

“Actually Niall, we have rehearsal tomorrow morning, and an interview right after. We have to be back at the hotel so Paul can drive us.” Liam said sadly. Speaking of work, I was reminded of a question.

“Wait, there wasn’t a car outside, how did you guys even get here, if you don’t mind me asking?” I asked.

“Paul.” They all said in unison. I nodded.

“Then… What are we going to do?” Zayn asked. I shrugged.

“What do you guys want to do?” I asked.

“Well, no matter what, we have to go back.” Liam stated. I nodded.

“But we just got here…” Charisa said, pouting. Hope did the same.

“When does your shift end?” Niall asked me.

“9:30pm, I hope.” I said to him.

“Can we stay 'til she gets back Li?” Niall asked him. They all pout and clasp their hands together, looking at Liam.

“Pleeeeeeeaaaaseeeeee?” The boys beg in unison to Liam. He chuckled before nodding his head.

“If that’s alright with Amber.” The boys turned with a snap and looked at me the same way.

“That’s alright with me. The girls could use company. I will call the neighbor and tell her that she doesn’t have to come today.” I said, as the boys cheered. I pulled out my phone and sent a quick text to the neighbor, receiving an okay and have a nice night in return.

“Alright, now that everything is settled, Amber and I will be on our way.” Harry said, guiding me to the door.

“See you at work?” I asked Chasity. She nodded. “Bye guys! Be good girls!” I said to them.

I knew that the paparazzi were still at my house, so I covered my face. We got in the car, ignored the paparazzi, buckled in, and drove off. I gave him the directions to the mall, since he refused to let me drive. We found a parking space and I waited for Harry to put on his hat and shades that he brought to disguise himself, hopefully giving us enough time to get the jacket and some food.

It’s already 12:55 and my shift starts at 1:30. I made sure that Harry was aware of the time we had, and to move quickly. We walked in to Burlington Coat Factory, and began to look around. I told Harry my size, and he began to look around as well.

“Amber!!” He called out to me, a couple racks down. I looked up from this jacket I was observing and saw him hold up a small jacket, I’m a medium, but not that small.

“That won’t fit. It’s too small.” I said to him as I looked down to look at more light jackets. I still had Harry’s jacket on, but kept it unzipped since the temperature was rising quickly outside, but the a/c was on inside. I heard him call my name out again, so I looked up. He held up a Faux Leather Moto Jacket in an olive color. It was astounding, but I was afraid of the price.

“How much is it?” I asked. He walked over to me.

“You don’t have to worry about the price, only if you like it or not. I don’t know what you like or don’t like when it comes to style so…” He said, holding up the jacket. I observed it more now that it was closer, and I really did like it.

“You do pretty well, Styles. You know mine.” I said, using his last name while sticking out my tongue in a goofy manner. He rolled his eyes at my cheesiness.

“Thank you. Is there anything else you had your eye on?” he asked me as he looked through the rack I was just going through. He stops and observes all of the jackets, looks back at me, and back to the jackets. He pulls out the one I was looking at earlier. “This one?” he asks. I smile and nod my head. He smiles as well and places it with the other one.

After a while of trying to convince him that I am fine with just two jackets, he buys me another two, along with a One Direction t-shirt that he found, and pays for it. He refuses to tell me the price, but I will find out later. We walked out and headed to the food court and got some tacos at Taco Bell. We sat down and ate, the bags that held my new clothes by Harry’s feet.

We talked about how tiring being in One Direction can be, with traveling, sleeping hours, business, and other stuff like that. The bright side was that as long as people out there, such as my sisters and I listening to their music and being supportive of them, it’s all worth it. I smiled at the mention of my sisters and I.

I wondered if they were okay with the boys back home… They can be rough when it comes to playing… Eh. Chasity is there and I am sure everything is fine. A couple of girls around our age came up to us and recognized Harry, asking for an autograph and pictures. Both of them easily recognizable to me.

“And what are your names?” He asked them.

“I'm Wendy.” She said, giggling.

“Marissa Ambrose.” She stated, looking directly at me.

He nodded and signed their phone cases, taking a picture right after. The entire time Marissa looked at me, smirking as she and Harry take the pictures. She got even closer to him, almost leaning on him, giving her the opportunity to expose her small chest. Marissa looks at me smirking once more before smiling for the photo. She got Wendy to take some pictures, so she does end up sitting on his lap, arms around his neck. After what felt like forever, they were finally about to leave.

“Bye Harry. It was nice meeting you." She then leaned in and whispered loudly in his ear, but I was still able to hear her. "If you ever want someone better to show you around, that way you won’t be spending money on a gold digger, text me sometime.” She said, with a devilish smile.

Grabbing one of his napkins, she scribbles what I would think would be her number, with a pen that she just so happen to be holding. She finishes it off with a bunch of x’s at the end. She handed it over to him, placing a kiss on his cheek before turning away, with Wendy squealing at her actions. My blood begins to boil as I rest my head on my hand while my other hand taps away on the table, my nails making it more audible. She always get what she wants.

Harry kept his eyes on Marissa as she walked away, swaying her small butt from side to side, exposing her slight curvy figure as her crop top rose up. He looked like he was in a trance. I knew that he wouldn't like me. I crossed my arms across my chest and just tried to focus on something else.

There was a small family eating and having a grand time across the room from us. Down by the Chick-Fil-A there was a man in the costume of a cow, holding a sign that said 'Eat More Chicken'. I found that amusing yet sad. I try to find many more things but my eyes just wandered back to Harry, who was still looking. Once she finally left the food court, Harry’s attention finally came back to me. Once he took in my facial appearance his face was full of guilt.

“Sorry, Amber..." He apologized. I just scoffed and looked away, rolling my eyes slightly. "Am-” he started but was cut off with my phone going off. I sighed from relief and pulled out my phone, not wanting to talk about this anymore.

From: Chase:
Girl, where are you?! Mr. Shitman is going nuts!

I looked at the time. 1:45. Oh no. I feel the color drain from my face and I felt like I stopped breathing for a quick moment.

“HARRY, I'M LATE!” I yelled, getting up and throwing away my trash, and sprinting to the parking lot, Harry close on my tail. We jump in the car, Harry throws the bag of clothing in the back, ignoring the other fans that have found out he was here, and drove off. As we drove to the exit of the parking lot, I saw Marissa staring straight at me, a satisfied smile on her face, before getting into her own car. She did this on purpose.

“I'm sorry Amber, I will make it up for you okay?"

"No need, Harry." I mumble.

"Listen, I really am sorry-” He starts but I cut him off.

“Just don't, Harry. Really. I can handle it on my own..." No I can't, he is going to beat the absolute crap out of me. I'm really scared right now, you have no idea. My rage is just distracting me from my fate.

"Do you know where you are going?” I asked him calmly, changing the subject.

“Yeah, but Amber-”

“Harry, please…” I said, hoping he will drop it. He stays silent for the rest of the ride, which I was thankful for. The only sound you could hear was the slight hum of the radio, Bruno Mars and his song Treasure. We make it to the café within 5 minutes.

Harry’s POV:

“Bye, Harry. Thanks for the jackets.” She mumbled as she got out. Why won’t she let me talk to her boss? I extended my hand to reach for her, to stop her for a second and let me explain but she was too quick and got out of my reach.

“You can bring the stuff back to the house. I will get a ride with Chasity.” She said, looking away from me. She closed the door behind her and rushed into the building without looking back.

I laid back onto the seat, running my hand through my hair with a large sigh escaping my lips. Why she is so closed off all of the sudden? Was her food bad? Did she feel uncomfortable with me taking pictures with fans? Did she know her?

Wait... Did she see me staring at her? I didn't mean to stare... It's just that when she said if I wanted someone better to show me around, I wanted to argue with her and tell her to piss off... When she kissed my cheek and looked at Amber the way she did, I couldn't. There were too many people around. I couldn't say it. What if my feelings for her slipped out? If she didn't actually feel the same? If it's plastered on the tabloids the next day? That shouldn't matter though... I should have stood up for her. Damn... I should have...

I turned back to the bags that occupied the backseat, full of the clothes I bought her. Wait, she didn't take a jacket with her... The A/C makes the cafe really chilly, to keep everything inside nice and cool for rush hour coming up later on. She's going to get cold.

I turned my body to reach for the bag that I threw in the back in a rush, picking out a jacket for her. I took the one that was my first pick. When I saw it on the rack back at the store, she immediately popped into my mind. I held the jacket in my hand, removing all of the tickets that were on it before climbing out of the car and jogging to the front door.

I walked in and the door chimed, signaling my presence. I saw Chasity emerging from the back door in a rush, and Amber talking to a large man, who didn't seem pleased by the slightest. That must be her boss. Perfect, I can clear everything up, and hopefully give me a chance to talk to her before she goes to work.

Before I could call out to her, or even process what’s happening, he rose his hand, and slapped her hard across her face, causing her to fall down. I gasped loudly as a red mark quickly appeared on her face that became familiar to me. The red marks that she constantly hid from me, were from him. I stood frozen, shocked, by what I just saw. My fists began to clench and my jaw tightened, my entire body tensing up.

Anger was quickly building up inside of me as my blood began to boil. This must be why she didn’t let me come with her, and whenever she tensed up when I mentioned her boss. The mark on her face from when I first met her, the one she tried to hide... It was from him. She lied to me. And I actually fell for it, when I said I wouldn't. I knew something was wrong! Amber must have heard the bell ring since she looked up. She became wide eyed as she took in my physical appearance, but all I could focus on was the man that just slapped her, and that he should get what he deserves.

“Harry…” She called out to me from the ground. I threw the jacket over to Chasity as she catches it mid air while I walked over to the man, ignoring Amber's pleas. Chasity helped Amber stand up right, and held her so she wouldn't come over to me. The man looked at me with a smirk, which only pushed me further, thinking that he enjoyed hurting her. Everything else that followed became a blur.
