Dreams vs. Reality

Chapter Twenty-Six

Amber’s POV

We entered the house and the house has been so tidied up that there isn’t a speck of dirt in sight.

“Wow guys, you didn’t make a mess while I was gone, that’s a first.” I sarcastically say to them as we joined everyone in the living room. I plopped down next to Louis who had open arms. I smiled and returned the gesture.

“I've missed you Bambi.” He squeezes me tightly.

“I’ve only been gone for about three hours, Tommy.” I giggle. It’s actually a little past noon now.

“Still, it’s been boring.” He releases me, but leaving his arm on the couch behind me. Harry of course, pushes it off and replaces it with his own.

“She’s mine, Lou.” He warns him playfully, only getting a roll of the sassy eyes in return before propping his legs up on my lap.

“So, what’s today?” I ask Harry once more. He clicks with his tongue, shaking his head.

“Told you, surprise. But, Chasity?” He suddenly calls out to her.

“Yeah?”

“Where’s my credit card?” He asks her, and my eyes widened.

“You still didn’t give it back to him??” I cut in, astonished.

“I got it, don’t worry.” She runs upstairs, then back down with card in hand. She hands it to him before returning to her previous spot under Niall’s arm. Harry removes his arm from behind me, reaches behind him, pulls out his wallet and slips the card back into place before putting it back into his pocket.

“That’s something I have needed to talk to you about…” I remembered suddenly.

“What?”

“Paying for the shopping day. You didn’t need to do that.” I looked up to him with my puppy eyes.

“Nonsense. But, you’ve barely put a dent in the money, why be so cheap?” He smirks at me.

“Because I don’t like spending other people’s money. I have money, I could have paid for it.” I countered. He sighs and pulls me onto his lap, letting Louis’ legs dangle off the couch. He wraps his arms around my waist, letting me rest my head on his shoulder.

“I wanted you to spend the money, I saved that specifically for you and Chasity to spend on whatever. Since I didn’t know what to get you, until now, I wanted to see what you liked, disliked, that way I know what to buy you next time. You can’t go gift-less on your 18th birthday, that’s down right ridiculous.” He tickled my sides, forcing a giggle out of me.

"Alright, well thank you." I thank him.

"Anything for you." He says. I can feel his head move as he places a kiss on my hair before resting back on me again.

“Speaking of, *cough cough*” Louis said as loud as possible, sitting up straight and staring at Harry.

“Don’t tell me…” I started, removing my head from Harry’s shoulder and eyeing the people in the living room.

“Yes, everyone went out and bought stuff for you.” Harry explains to me. They all whine at him. “Yes, you can get it now.” He exhales at his friends as they all cheer and rush out the door, as Chasity goes upstairs. I get up from Harry's lap and head over to the window, watching the guys race to the trunk of the car Harry and I came in, and pulling out multiple wrapped boxes.

“I was traveling with gifts this entire time?” I asked Harry.

“It was a risky move, but I know you wouldn’t go through the boot, so I thought it was okay to do so.” I scrunch my brow together, turning around to face him.

“Boot?”

“Yes, boot.”

“Boot...”

“Boot.” He smirked, confirming me. Boot… He points outside to the guys closing the trunk. Oh. OH.

“OHHH! Trunk! British term… Gotcha.” Duh. He starts to laugh loudly at me. “Hey, I’m not used to British words, gimme a break.” I pout at him. He continues to laugh as he brings me into his chest, hugging me tightly. Everyone returns to the living room, gifts in hands.

“First best friend, goes first.” Chasity says, handing me her box. Well, let the unwrapping begin.

Once all the gifts were unwrapped, and the thank you’s have been evenly distributed, Chasity excuses us from the group and leads us up to the bedroom. I see a dress set out on the bed, my white high heels at the bottom.

“What’s this?” I ask her, examining it at a closer distance.

“I found it in a box at my doorstep. I brought it up here without the guys seeing, and I found this inside.” She walks over to her desk and picks up a card, handing it to me, letting me open it.

To Amber, I hope you have a great birthday and that our paths will cross soon.

“What, but who?” I asked.

“I don’t know but he/she has a great sense of style. And it’s just your size! You should wear it today for your birthday.” She lifts the dress up by the hanger and holds it in front of me, turning me to see myself in the mirror. “Just add the white shoes that you would have worn with your other, red dress, and bam! We got a party. Oooh, look, I even got some accessories too.”

She begins to rummage through her jewelry box, opening small compartments inside. I kept my eyes on the dress, and just, who would send something do something this nice? The dress looks too new to be that old. I kneel down beside the dress quietly, letting my head rest on top of the bed as my mind takes me somewhere. I fall limp to the ground, only grasping the dress.

Waking up to the sound of continuous beeps from my phone I remove the sleep from my eyes. I appeared to be alone in, wherever I am. I look down at myself and I am red on my skin, sunburn probably. Dressed in ripped jeans and blue t-shirt, I try to sit up, but a quick strip of pain shoots through my back, leaving me on my back.

“Hello?” I call out. No response.

“Anyone here?” I ask again. Still nothing.

I look around to see any means of communication, my phone on the far right of me, sitting on the table with a small tray of food. I reach over as carefully as possible, and take my phone. I turn the screen on as I bring it back to me, seeing multiple missed notifications. I scroll through a good few of missed calls, mostly from friends, and Harry.

Texts flood my phone as I open my messages. Harry, Harry, Zayn, Harry, Chasity, Zayn, mom, dad, Louis, Harry, Louis, mom, mom, Louis, Liam, Niall, Harry, Harry, Niall, Hope, Zayn, Chasity, mom-- wait, Hope? I open her text, even though last time I recalled, she doesn’t even have a phone.

From: Hope
Amber, Harry is seriously going nuts. Where are you??

She can spell? Let alone type?

Looking through the rest of the texts, they all have the same subject. Where have I gone? I try getting up once more, this time with triumph. I walk around the wide room I am in for a few minutes, taking in my surroundings of the paintings in small frames nailed to the walls, the walls made of wood, like a cabin.

Scratch marks along the wooden pillars, in the corners, lanterns hanging from the walls, providing light, as well as the fire place at the opposite end of the bed. I headed to the window that was closed off by curtains, only to find hundreds of trees as far as the eye can see, fluffy white snow decorating the trees as if it was Christmas Eve.

Where am I?

I turn back to where I have been resting, finding my old converse, at the front of the bed. I crawl back into the bed, thinking this is only a dream. I can’t be out on my own, not out here. Suddenly a door swings open, and a man around my height, a bit taller, approaches me.

“Oh, thank goodness you’re awake.” He comforts me in a foreign language that I can’t quite catch. “We don’t have much time, come on I got us a ride. Put on your shoes and let’s go.” He commands me. When I don’t do as he says, he tugs at my arm towards the door revealing a car. I struggle out of his grip and run back to the bed.

“Who are you?” I ask the person once they step back in cabin, . He steps away from me.

“Amber, of course you know who I am, surely.” He doesn’t look familiar to me...

“I’m sorry, I don’t.” I shake my head, confused. How does he know who I am?

“Amber, it’s me,” he starts, but a hand reaches up and smacks me across the face.

“Amber, wake up already!!! They shouldn’t take this long!!!” Someone shouts at me. Another hand stinging me across the face is what made me pry my eyes open wide, my hand going to my cheek.

“Oww..” I muttered. “Thanks, Chasity.”

“Amber, what happened? That was probably the longest one you had yet. You’ve been out for a good hour. I would ask what it was about, but we don’t have time anymore. We gotta get you ready for your time with Harry!” She exclaims, tugging me up from the floor. It’s been an hour? It didn’t even feel like five minutes...

“Are you ready yet, Amber?” Harry calls from the opposite side of the door.

“Nooooooo.. Give me an hour!” She yells out for me, that was followed by a loud sigh from the hall.

“Alright. The lads and I are gonna go grab a bite then. We’ll see you in an hour. AN HOUR. So at 1, be ready to come out.” He repeats. “Bye, sweetheart.” I can tell he pressed his face against the door as he made a kissy noise.

“Bye, cupcake.” I call out to him, mimicking his action.

“Ugh, my God you guys just started going out in less than 24 hours and you are already wanting to make me throw up at your cuteness.” She starts picking out an outfit for me, not giving me room to protest. “HARRY, GET OUT ALREADY.” She suddenly yells, a thud coming from the other end making us laugh.

“Alright, alright. Niall says bye.” He says before walking away, the sound of his shoes against the wooden floor growing smaller and smaller before the front door shuts.

After getting myself ready and putting on final touches, I join Chasity in her room.

“All that’s left is your hair to be straightened.” She looks at the clock on her alarm clock, reading 12:30. “We are making great time. We could actually just watch TV while we wait. ” She says, holding up the straightening iron.

“I don’t even know if I can trust you with heat products for my hair, anymore.” I smirk at her through the mirror, just as she takes a strand of hair.

“Bitch don’t be complaining I got this. This time…” She pulls off a duck face before taking a strand and passing the straightener, which actually came out good. We chat about what’s to be expected of the party today, and as Chasity is down to a few strands left my phone goes off.

“Is it lover-boy?” Chasity asks me as she looks at my screen. I read the time and they should be back by now, its almost .

“Why do you call him lover-boy?” I ask her as I answer the phone. “Hey Curls.” I greet happily.

“Hello birthday girl.” Liam says with a chuckle. I pull the phone away from my ear, I could have sworn that it said Harry… Wait. It does.

“Hey Liam… Why are you calling on Harry’s phone?” I asked politely as possible.

“Oh, well, you see we were on our way back to the house, until the car decided to run out of gas, so Harry and Zayn went to get us some more. They should be back soon.”

“Oh, alright, well that doesn’t actually explain why you’re on Harry’s phone...?” I chuckle to myself.

“My phone died and Louis and Niall are too busy playing games on their phone, Harry just left his phone in the car, silly him, so I used his.” He informed me.

“That makes more sense. How long is the wait?”

“Uh, give or take twenty minutes to a half hour? We are on the highway.”

“Hmm… You guys still gonna be here for the party, right?” I asked slowly, Chasity giving me weird facial expressions.

“Of course. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

“Alright, well thanks for checking in Liam. Talk to you soon.”

“See you.” He said before hanging up.

“What happened?” Chasity asked.

“They ran out of gas on the way here, so they will be a bit late.”

“Awe, no date for Amber?” She jokes. I roll my eyes.

“Chasity stop, they shouldn’t take more than a half hour, the party isn’t until 7. We have plenty of time.” Turning on my lock screen, the time is currently 1pm. “They have another six hours to be exact. I’m pretty sure he and I still have time to do whatever he has planned in between.” I tell her as I turn off the screen, setting it down on the table.

Now 6:30 pm, there’s no sight of the guys. We just finished watching practically every movie that we had, yet still nothing from them.

“Try calling again, they are bound to show up.” Chasity groans, throwing her head back on the couch, slouching.

“Alright.” I pull out my phone once more, dialing for Harry, hoping one of them would answer it.

“What now?!” His voice rings into the phone angrily, I pull the phone back away from my ear slightly at his aggression. Chasity motions that she is gonna go upstairs and get ready. I nod before bringing the phone back to my ear.

“Harry?” I ask softly. The line stays quiet for a moment.

“Amber, I’m so sorry. I didn’t look at the caller ID. I didn’t mean to yell.” He apologizes quietly after a minute of silence.

“It’s alright, Harry, but where are you? The party is starting in a half an hour, what happened?” I ask. Mumbling could be heard before one loud shush stops them.

“Babe…” He starts but doesn’t finish. My heart starts to beat faster at the silence.

“What?”

“I…” He sighs heavily, pausing for a moment, before continuing. “I don’t know if we can make it yet…”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, earlier today we got stuck since the van--”

“I know that part, Liam already told me. He called me on your phone.” I cut him off. “You went to get gas with Zayn, and were supposed to be coming back.”

“Yeah, but the guy didn’t give us the gas since he thought we were just going to use it to light stuff up, ridiculous, I know. But we had to call Paul, and when he came he got a call saying that they needed us to do a quick shot for the perfume we are releasing, and we are stuck there now. So much for quick…” He sighs frustrated.

“Oh.” Was all I said, picking at my jean shorts.

“I tried many times to text you but they didn’t want phones on. I’m honestly glad you called, they allowed me to answer my phone... I've been getting calls from management and I'm so sick of getting calls from them. That's why I yelled. I'm going to do everything I can to get there, trust me--” He started but I stop him.

“Harry, it’s your job. I understand, no need to. It’s alright. It's the thought that counts.” I tell him as okay as I could, even though on the inside I’m all sad.

“Amber…” He sighs.

“Honestly Harry. It’s okay. You don’t have to. Your work comes first.” Chasity taps on my shoulder, turning me around. She motions me upstairs and I nod.

“Amber I’m serious, I want to make it there, I will, it just may have to take some time. You should be my first priority now.” he says as I turn back to my original position.

“Harry, you have to work, don’t worry about me. It’s just a birthday party. There’s plenty more in the future." A tap on my shoulder takes my attention, seeing Chasity motion for me to head back upstairs. "I got to go though, have to change and get ready. Bye Curls.” He sighs heavily as a voice comes through his end.

“We will be there, just late. Promise. I will get it out of Paul one way or another. Bye sweetheart.” He makes a kiss sound and I repeat it back before hanging up, and running upstairs.
