Winthrope Abbey

Chapter 8

“Mr. Styles already in my office and it’s only the first day of classes.” Headmaster Warwick commented as he walked into his office where Sophia and Harry were waiting.

“Well I am always trying to outdo myself each year, Headmaster.” Was Harry’s snarky reply.

“This is not the thing you want to overachieve in, I assure you Mr. Styles. Now why are we visiting me instead of attending our class?”

Sophia and Harry both looked at each other as they tried to decide who would answer.

“It’s her fault!”

“It’s his fault!”

They said at the same time.

“Mine!” Harry and Sophia pointed at themselves.

“I see.” Said the Headmaster with a knowing look. “We can’t play nice with each other, isthat it?”

“I am more than willing to be nice, it just seems like Harry isn’t”

“Now wait one minute. I let you be my science partner. I say that is more than ‘nice’.”

“Perhaps the nice thing would have been to chose someone else.” Sophia spat back.

“Oh don’t be such a bi—“

“Stop right there Mr. Styles!,” the Headmaster picked up a piece of paper from his desk “according to this note from your teacher you two seemed to have disrupted the class and refused to listen to the warnings Professor Webb, which he gave twice. And even when he ordered you to go to my office you two were still causing a problem. So I am going to ask one more time, why are you here?”

“Listen, Headmaster I’m sorry. Harry and I were just over reacting to a school project that we didn’t see eye to eye on. I promise that I won’t let it happen again.”

“I can promise that too, Headmaster.” Harry replied.

The Headmaster looked at them both knowing full well they would probably be returning to his office in the future. But seeing how it was only the first day he decided to overlook his potential problem for the school year. “Okay it will be a warning this time, but if you, Ms. Allaway, and you, Mr. Styles, are back in my office again there will be consequences. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Headmaster.” They both said.

“Good. Now head on to your next class you should get there on time.” The Headmaster stood up and pushed them both out the door. “And I mean what I said no more issues in Professor Webb’s class.” Were his final words to them as he closed the door in their faces. Harry turned toward Sophia, “Now that wasn’t too bad.” He said with his now infamous cheeky grin.

They both began to walk silently down the hallway toward the door when they heard arguing coming from another room.

“Don’t touch it!” Sophia knew that voice immediately. It was Audrey.

“Sorry, it’s just I’ve never seen someone’s ankle so swollen before.” Came a male voice she didn’t know. Curious to find out what was going on Sophia began to approach the door to check on her friend.

“What are you doing?” Harry questioned as he watched Sophia.

“I can hear Audrey. I want to make sure she’s okay.” Sophia said getting closer to the door and secretly wishing Harry would go back to the academic building without her. When she looked back over her shoulder to see if her wish had come true she came face to face with Harry. “What ARE you doing?” She practically yelled while pushing him back so she didn’t feel so close to him.

“I’m not following you, if that’s what you’re thinking.I can hear my mate, Liam in there too. Who knows what one of you girls did now?”

“You know not everything is our fa—“ Sophia stopped mid sentence when she saw a soaking wet Audrey sitting on the nurse’s bed with an equally soaking wet Liam reaching to touch her ankle.

“Touch it again and see what happens.” Audrey warned. Sheepishly Liam lowered his hand and looked up to see Harry and Sophia staring back at them.
“You alright mate?” Harry questioned.

“Oh you know just decided to take a bit of a swim during a soccer match, thanks to this lovely young lady.”

“For the last time I didn’t do it on purpose.” Audrey said with some frustration in her voice.

“I know, love, but you get so worked up about it, how can I not keep bringing it up?” Said Liam.

Harry leaned over to Sophia and whispered “See one more problem from a girl. We might meet extinction before spring semester.” Harry teased referring to his hypothesis from earlier.

Sophia ignored Harry’s comment and walked over to Audrey. “What happened to your ankle?”

Audrey took in a deep breath before she quickly began to explain the events from earlier. “We were playing soccer out on the field next to the pond. And I got a little over zealous during the game, and Liam and I ended up in the pond.As for my ankle, when I was getting out of said pond, I stumbled and twisted it. The nurse says that I’ll be fine I just need to keep it elevated and apply ice.”

“It looks painful.” Harry said while trying to touch it.

“Harry don’t.” Sophia warned.

“Why?”

“Because she doesn’t want you to touch it.”

“Fine.” Harry said like a child getting scolded from their mother.

“Do you need me to help you to your next class? I don’t mind waiting here with you if Liam would like to go.” Sophia offered hoping Audrey would get the hint that she didn’t want to have to leave with Harry.

“I’m sure Liam can take care of here. Right Liam?” Harry said before Audrey could answer.

“Might as well. Been here long enough with her already.”

“See Audrey’s fine with Liam. Let’s go before we’re late.” Harry said while pushing Sophia toward the door. Sophia stopped before he could push her all the way out. “Audrey are you sure?” She practically pleaded.

“Go on. I don’t want you to be late.” Audrey said with a smile. “I’ll be fine.”

“Oh alright but if you change your mind—“

“She’s fine. Let’s go.” Harry said pushing her to the door once again.

They were quiet again walking to the academic building. Sophia quite honestly didn’t know what to say to Harry. She was afraid that any conversation she would try to have with him would only lead to an argument. But she also couldn’t stand the awkward silence between them.

Sophia cleared her throat. “So I think we should do your hypothesis for our science class.”

Harry turned his face toward her and raised his eyebrows. “What hypothesis was that?” He questioned smugly.

“The one where you believe that girls being at this school were going to cause the boys quote, unquote ‘extinction’.” Sophia stated while using air quotes around the word extinction.

“You really want to do that as our big project?”

“Yes but not because I think you’re right, but because I want to prove you wrong.”

Harry thought about what Sophia was saying. “Okay, but you do know this is a team project. We can’t go in this with two different ideas.”

“I know and if I’m wrong, which I won’t be, we’ll go with yours. And if I’m right we’ll go with mine. Deal?” She said, extending her hand for Harry to shake.

He shook her hand. “Deal.”

“So, what’s your next class?” Harry asked taking his hand away from hers.

“Trigonometry.”

“With Professor Howard.”

“Yeah….wait how did you know it was with Howard?” Sophia asked, but already knowing what he would say.

“Cause guess who’s in there too? Me!” Harry said with exaggerated excitement. “Oh boy, maybe just maybe there will be two empty seats next to each other just like Professor Webb’s class.”

“Oh no. You are not sitting next to me.”

“Why? Don’t you like my company?”

“No!”

“Oh come on Soph. Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll get in trouble in this class too.”

Sophia stopped walking and pointed her finger at Harry. “First off don’t call be Soph. Secondly the last thing I need is to go back to Headmaster Warwick’s office. And thirdly, why must you always try to start things with me?”

“Because it’s just so easy, Soph.”

“Ugh!” She screamed. “When we get to Professor Howard’s class do not sit next to me; do not talk to me; and do not call me Soph! Got it?”

“Whatever you say…” Harry replied smiling because he loved how he got under her skin.

Sophia turned around and began walking again only to hear Harry finish his last sentence with “…Soph.”

@alove23

I know right? I could stare at that gif all day :)

@ericajaine

This might be one of my favorite chapter's that I've posted so far. Oh and Evelyn is worse next chapter because the next chapter is the article she wrote about the play. She's less than nice in that.

Sorry I miss spoke it's the chapter after this one.

LOVE annoyed Harry ;)
