Love/Hate

Hayden's P.O.V.

After school I went home to help unpack with mom. I walked to through the door and saw Mom unpack trophies and putting them on the shelf. "Hey ma."

"Hey sweetheart."

I closed the door and put my bag on the floor. I walked over to her and started taking stuff out different boxes. "Where's Jamie, Jay, and Dad?"

"Oh they went shopping for the twins' first day back tomorrow." She continued putting stuff on the shelf when she came across a picture of all of us. She smiled and I looked at it too.

"I remembered that day. It was the day we went to the beach."

"Yeah." She put it up on the shelf and turned to me. "You were trying to get out of the photo, but I had to force you to stay in it."

"Sorry." The door opened and dad and the twins' came in laughing with ice cream in their hand. "Hey guys."

"Hey, honey." Dad came over and gave me a kiss on the forehead. The twins sat down on the couch and I looked at them.

"So Jay, how was shopping?" She licked her ice cream while looking at me.

"Good."

"What did you get?"

"Well, I got some shirts and skirts, and Jamie got shorts and shirts, but mostly shirts."

"Oh."

I took out the microwave and went in the kitchen. I put in the counter and plugged it in. I walked back into the living room and continued putting things in their place. Mom put her final touches on everything and stood back. "Perfect."

"Yeah, it's always perfect."

"I know." The doorbell rang mom looked at us. "Crap, I forgot to tell you guys we're meeting the neighbors, so Hayden you, Jamie, and Jay go get dressed and come back down.
I looked down at myself, "What's the problem with what I got on."

Jamie walked past and laughed, "Everything." I kicked him in the shin and he glared at me.

"Whatever." I walked upstairs to my room and changed into different clothes and walked out of my room. Jay came out of her and looked at me.

"You didn't change."

"I did."

"...Mom's gonna kill you." Jamie walked past me laughing.

"Shut it." I smacked him upside the head and he glared at me again. We walked downstairs and mom opened the door.

"Come in." She let them in and I started playing with my fingers. "Kids, this is Maura and Bobby Horan." I looked up and waved at them. "And this is their son, Niall."

"Holy...

Niall sat down on the mini couch with me and Jay while mom, Jamie, and Dad sat on the big couch with Niall's parents. Why does this always happen to me? Why couldn't it be Ashleigh? Or Spencer? Or Emily? I'm going talk to about this later.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Melissa and this is my husband Mike, my son Jamie, and my two daughters: Jay and Hayden." They looked at me and I waved at them. She smiled at me and turned back to mom.

"So, how old are they?"

"Jay and Jamie are both thirteen."

"They're twins?"

"They're twins yeah. Hayden is eighteen." She looked at me, "She should be graduating this year."

"And hopefully Niall will, too." Niall glared at his mom and I smiled to myself.

This is so boring. I raised my hand and mom looked at me. "Mom, can I be excused?"

"Why?"

"I have homework to do."

"Sure." I got up and picked my bag and walked up to my room. I closed the door and laid down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I sat down up and took my work out of my bag. I started with math just doing problems she still had on the board.

I heard Niall's mom say she had to get ready for work, and mom say she'll be right back. I finished the assignment and put my materials to the side.

"Here you go." I heard mom say.

"Thank you." I got up and walked out of the room. I sat at the top of the stairs and looked at them. "Goodbye, Melissa and Mike."

"Bye."

I saw Niall walk over to the door and he looked at me. I looked away looked at mom. They left and mom looked at dad. "That went well." She looked at me and I quickly ran back to my room. I plopped face down on the bed and waited for her to come in.

*Knock* *Knock* She opened the door and poked her head in. "Can I come in?"

"Yes."

She walked in and closed the door behind her. She walked over Sat next to me. "Do you want to talk about it?" I shook my head and she rubbed my back. "Is it about that boy?" I nodded and she got up. "Well, I just leave you alone." I heard the door open and close followed by footsteps.

I sat up and looked at my watch. It's only five thirty and I have nothing to do. I could go for a run just to take my mind off things. I got up and took out a hoodie and leggings. I slipped out the clothes I am wearing and put them on.

I took out my running shoes and put them on. I put my headphones in and played music on from my phone. I walked out the room and walked downstairs. "I'll be back ma." I walked out the door and started running.

I ran a few blocks down to the public park and just jogged on the path. I ran past people who were sitting or walking. I saw Ashleigh sitting on a picnic bench and stopped. "Ashleigh!" She looked at me and I ran over to her. "What are you doing here?" I turned off the music and took out the head phones.

"I'm waiting here."

"For who?" She looked past my shoulder and I followed her gaze. Niall walked over to the table and I stood up. "Niall?"

He looked at me then at her. I looked at her and she looking at me and her. "Ain't this funny. I just saw him a few minutes ago."

She looked at me confused, "Why?"

"Oh, I'm his new neighbor." I turned my music back on and put my head phones in. "I should go. I'll see the both of you at school." I ran away and headed back to home. Wow, he asks me out and when I say maybe he asks Ashleigh out.

I got to my house and ran up the walkway. I ran through the door and up to my room. I sat on my bed and tried to catch my breath. I got up and walked over to the hallway closet. I took out a towel and rag so I could take a shower. I walked into the bathroom and closed the bathroom. I took off my stinky clothes and turned the water on. I got in and started washing the sweat and dirt off.

Niall's P.O.V.

After I left Hayden's house Ashleigh called me. "Hello?"

"Hey Niall, it's Ashleigh. Can you meet me at the park in a few minutes?"

"Sure."

"Thanks." She hung up and I put my shoes back on. I walked out my room and went downstairs. "I'll be back dad." I walked out the door and walked to my car. I got in and drove to the park. I parked the car and my phone vibrated. I took it out and saw a message from some unknown number. I unlocked the phone and read it:

Tell Mr. Burnett you do not want to work with Hayden Mitchell.

I deleted it and shoved my phone back in my pocket. I climbed out the car and walked over to Ashleigh. I spotted her at a table and saw a girl sit down next to her. Ashleigh looked at me and the girl turned around. It was Hayden. She got up and looked at me. "Niall?"

I looked at me then at her. She looked at her and she looking at me and her. "Ain't this funny. I just saw him a few minutes ago."

Ashleigh looked at me confused, "Why?"

"Oh, I'm his new neighbor." She turned my music back on and put her head phones in. "I should go. I'll see the both of you at school." She ran away and I just watched her get further and further away.

"So, can I ask you something?"

"Yeah." I looked at her and sat down.

"Would you want to maybe go out with me?"

I asked Hayden of she wanted to go on a date with me and she said no, so I could give Ashleigh a try. "Sure." She got up and ran over to me. She hugged me, more like squeezed me.

Hayden's P.O.V.

I got out the shower and wrapped a towel around myself. I walked back to my room and dried off. I took out a shirt that said "I love Nerds" and colorful pajama pants and put them on. I sat down on the bed and took out my book. I started reading when there was a knock on my door. "Dinnertime."

I set the book down and walked over to the door. I opened it and looked at mom. "Can I eat up here?"

"Sure." I walked downstairs and went into the kitchen. I walked over to my table and picked my plate up. I walked back out the kitchen and went back upstairs to my room. I closed the door and walked over to the bed. I set the plate down on the nightstand and sat down on my bed. I picked up my book and continued reading.

I took a piece of the food and ate it. I heard a noise coming from my window. I looked at it and saw a pebble hit the window. I got up and walked over to the window. I looked out it and saw Spencer, and Emily standing there. I opened the window and poked my head out. "What are you doing?"

"We're going to a party and was wondering if you want to come?"

"I'm tired maybe some other time."

"Okay." They walked away and I closed the window.

I walked over to the bed and closed the book. I put it on the floor and climbed in bed and turned off the light. I climbed underneath the blankets and closed my eyes.
