ღ 100 Days to Say I Love You ღ

☁ Day One ☁

99 Days Left

“Are you excited, Skye?” Mom asked me, gripping tightly onto my hands.

“Yes mom,” I responded, smiling as the taxi driver pulled up in front of our home.

The house was huge, but it wasn't the same house I lived in before.

As we stepped out of the yellow car, I pulled my suitcase towards the entrance and immediately knocked on the door. “Skye, no one’s home…”

I laughed. “I know, but I just wanted to check.”

Mom pulled a chain of keys from her pocket, and scrambled to find the right one. Once she did, she inserted the key into the lock and unlocked the door.

My eyes widened, realizing a sudden change.

“Is this a new house?” I blurted out.

She chuckled, “Yes, we moved.”

I turned back to face mom, when I noticed a tear drop fall from her eyes. She realized I saw her tears, and quickly wiped the tear away. “M-Mom,” I stammered.

“Skye, I need to tell you something really important,” Mom said sternly, with red puffy eyes.

“What is it?” I asked, biting my lip.

“In the past six years, lots of things have happened…”

“I know.”

“Your father and I-I, divorced,” Mom cried out.

My eyes widened, and I felt my heart sink. “You’re k-kidding right?”

I knew she wasn’t joking. But I couldn’t say anything else. I didn’t know what to say back to her, or how I should react.

“Your father continued to pay for your treatments, but while I got remarried. I thought it would be hopeless to endure having to pay for your treatments, but-“

I interrupted her. “So you decided to leave me to die?”

“No, it’s not like that.. I just didn’t know what to do, Skye, I-“

A sudden rush of blood ran through my body, and I collapsed on the ground, feeling very weak and almost like I couldn’t move.

“Skye, I’m so sorry to tell you this now, when your body is still weak.. But I just couldn’t keep this a secret from you any longer!” She sobbed.

I pulled myself together and stood up, reaching for my suitcase.

Mom stopped weeping, “I hope one day you will forgive me.”

“It’s not your fault, mum,” I mumbled under my breath, steadily making my way upstairs.

I opened the door to my room.

A neatly made queen sized bed was placed in the middle of the room, along with a white desk beside the bed, and a blue stained bureau in front of the bed.

I regretted getting irritated at mom. I understood that sometimes people had to move on, just like how mom and dad had to continue their regular lifestyle, trying to forget that their daughter was at a hospital.

A tear rolled down my cheek, as I placed the suitcase down on the floor.

Why was I mad at mom? She decided to breakup with my dad, and I didn’t have any right to tell her whether it was right or wrong.

I decided to apologize to mom, and trotted my way downstairs.

“Mom, are you here?” I yelled.

Only my echo and silence filled the house.

I looked around the house, until I finally noticed a piece of paper taped to the front of the door that had scribbled writing.

Dear Skye,
Have a great day at school tomorrow. You’ll be attending Holmes Chapel High school. I wish I could tell you this in person, but I have a business meeting outside of town this week, so your stepfather will take care of you until then. I love you, Skye.

Love,
Mom

I crumpled the piece of paper, and threw it away.

A tear drop fell on my hands, and I wanted to cry in my mom’s arms, and tell her I was sorry. I didn’t want to hold back the tears again.

Tears shed for another person are not a sign of weakness; they are a sign of a pure heart.
