These Chapters of Our Lives ~ COMPLETED

Loss of Words

Hoards of people jostled past me, as I stood alone, pushed without care, by agitated tourists and locals. Adorned with dark clothes covering up most of my skin, I started to walk aimlessly in the opposite direction. No one appeared to see me, but it wasn’t like I cared. All I could here were the repugnant sounds of car horns. Without ear buds, I couldn’t succeed in blocking out the rest of the world as I wished I could.

I continued to walk down the path until lesser and lesser people were scrambling by, the traffic was behind me now, and few cars dared to pass down the twisted road I walk by. Unaware of where I was actually heading, I stopped to look ahead.

I became aware that but a half mile away from me placed a meadow, one of which I could hazily remember in another dream. Then, I realized, I must be in a dream. The people, the clothes, the meadow… I’m dreaming.

As if on cue, the same hazy little girl from once upon a time came running to the center of the field, hunched over panting for air, and behind her came another girl wearing the same clothes as I… It’s me.

The path I walked must have been the back way to this field of dandelions and tall grass because I find myself watching myself do the same as I did last time. My one persona stood just a few yards away from the little girl, but my current state stood further, on top of a hill of the sort.

“It’s great to finally see you,” a voice said from close behind me. I turned on my heels to come face to face with the girl’s mother as I remembered from my last dream. I gasped, for I was unable to make out her face, all that stood out being her dark brown hair reaching to the middle of her back, just like mine. “I never thought I’d see the day…”

“I’m sorry. Are you talking to me?” I ask, but no words come from my mouth. I hold my hands to my neck as most people do when they are unaware that they’ve lost their voice.

“Well, it’s such a shame that we have to keep things going or I would stay and talk,” she says. I’m confused now, but watch her as she calls the little girl, same as last time. The child once again comes running up the hill, her body so close to me as she takes her mother’s hand. The two start walking away, the same trace of dirt marking up the back of her dress. I want to scream out ‘Wait!’ but find myself at a loss for words as the scene starts to dissipate from my mind until I find nothing but the blackness…

I gasp as I open my eyes to suddenly starting to pant from my subtle awakening. If I hadn’t had this dream, I would have completely forgot about it otherwise. This time was different though, it was from another point of view, and I still couldn’t seem to make sense of it.

The dream brought this weird feeling to my being. At the most, it made me feel nervous and shaky, almost unsure of something, but I still felt as though there was a happy more enlightening meaning to having the dream. The strange part was that I’ve never dreamt of the same dream twice. Ever since I could remember, I never had a dream after the first time it had been dreamt up, so why is this one different?

The door suddenly shot open and Harry stepped inside the doorway catching sight of my panicky state. He rushed to my side.

“What happened? Are you okay?” His tone was urgent and caring, as usual.

“I- I’m fine. Just had a strange dream is all…” It technically isn’t a lie, but it’s not the whole truth.

“Again? Har, are you sure you don’t want to tell me this time. It helps to get things off you chest you know.”

“Honestly, Harry. I’m okay; it’s just a dream.”

“If that’s what you’re trying to convince yourself, then it’s fine by me, but if you ever feel like bringing it up I’m here for you,” he says genuinely. I groan, pulling the covers of the duvet over my head.

“Don’t you have work or something?” I mumble annoyed at his presence.

I feel his chuckle vibrate the sheets. “Okay, I’ll just leave them since my girlfriend doesn’t want to kiss me goodbye…” His footsteps are soon heard growing farther away from me.

I peek my head out from under the curtains to see him smirking in the doorway. I sigh and get up, dragging my feet to where he stands. I eye his cheeky smile as he puckers his lips and walk right past him. I smirk to myself, but he grabs my arm and pulls me into his chest, planting his lips atop mine. My eyes open in shock at first, but I kiss back willingly. I frown as he pulls apart.

“I’ll see you when we get back,” he smiles at me. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” I say in a daze from the kiss. He chuckles; pecking my lips once more before he walks down the stairs and eventually leaves the house.

I follow his steps down the stairs just in time to see the last boy close the door. The girls are all sitting in the central living area now, chatting amongst themselves.

“Good morning, Sunshine!” Perrie smiles overdramatically at me.

“Mhm…” I mumble sort of smiling as I grab the box of cereal from the shelf. I extend my arm while standing on my toes to grab a bowl to pour my Cheerios in followed by getting milk and pouring it all over my delicious breakfast.

I take in a few big spoonfuls of my cereal. “What are we going to do today?” I ask, my mouth still filled with food.

“That’s disgusting; eat with you mouth closed!” Diane divulged.

“We’re going shopping today,” El filled me in. I nodded and continued to eat my cereal.

“We might go out for like a movie or something later, too. I really want to see Gone Girl. Neil Patrick Harris is like my husband!” Diane exclaimed. I smirked at her, mouth full of my last bite of cereal. The other girls were giggling; Diane’s hand clasped over her mouth, her eyes grew wide with embarrassment. “Don’t tell Niall I said that.”

“Our lips are sealed,” Dani offers.

I swallow. “Speak for yourself.”

“Harmony,” Eleanor threatens. I laugh and place my spoon and bowl in the sink.

“You can’t honestly expect me to not tell Niall.” Every pair of eyes glares at me. I raise my hand in surrender. “Fine I won’t tell…” Fingers of my other hand crossed behind my back. Diane scoffed, not convinced. Chuckling, I run upstairs to get ready for the day.

“What about this one?” Perrie flashes off the dress in her hands, posing as if she were a deranged model. I wave it off and continue to search through the racks. “Come on, Har. We’ve been searching for hours, and the movie starts in like… an hour! Hurry up and choose!”

I groan in frustration; I hate being rushed, especially when it comes to shopping. Everyone else had left, bored to their minds having found their “perfect” dresses ages ago. Perrie stayed, reluctantly, to help me search. So far, we had been to about 23 different stores, none of them having a dress that suited me.

“This is hopeless! We’re never going to find you a dress. That one’s too red; this one is too short. Make up your mind already!” Perrie rambled on in annoyance.

I huffed. “I don’t like any of these dresses, and I’m sorry that I’m a difficult shopper.”

“Har, we’ve been to every dress shop within a twenty mile radius. Are there any dresses that you somewhat liked at the other stores? Maybe you didn’t look at them quite enough.”

I shook my head. “No, but I think there is one store we’ve missed…” I grabbed Perrie’s hand and hauled her out of the store, hailing a cab in the process. I told the driver the address of our destination as soon as we loaded into the back.

“There are no dress shops down that way. What are you thinking?”

“You’ll see,” I pat her hand and let her head slouch onto my shoulder.

It wasn’t long until we pulled up to a mostly empty street. Unlike the other places, there was no rush of crowds, just a few people stringing along here and there. This is my kind of place. Paying the driver and thanking him for the ride first, I climbed out of the dingy car pulling Perrie along with me.

Her eyes were wondrous, lost almost. Seeming like she had never seen such emptiness in a public area, she followed me like a stray puppy. I laughed at her as I pulled her into my place of interest. The bell on the door rang, bringing her back to her senses.

“You’re idea of dress shopping is going to a… thrift store?”

“Well, yeah. What else would you call this place? You can pretty much get whatever you want, even some of the latest styles, or vintage stuff, for cheap.” I immediately start shuffling through the racks of random clothing.

“You do realize that you don’t have to worry about money, right?”

I look up at Perrie, giving her the are-you-kidding-me look. “I know. But I hate that Harry is always wasting his money on me. I have money too, you know?”

“Well, you can’t use your savings this time…” she trailed off.

“Why not? Perrie you can’t pay for my dress either. I won’t allow you to,” I scold her.

“Harry told me to pay for it with his card,” she said pulling out Harry’s credit card. I scoffed, attempting to take it out of her hands, but she moved back placing the card back in her purse.

“There is no way you’re doing that. Just let me pay for my own damn dress. I haven’t even foun- scratch that. That’s the one!” Perrie turned to look at what I was pointing to behind her head. The dress was perfect, and my favorite color to wear, too. I could just tell that my eyes were sparkling at the sight. “I am getting that dress, and I am paying for it myself.”

“Fine, but at least let me pay for the shoes. Harry would never forgive me…” I laugh, but agree. I have a feeling this premiere is going to be perfect.

@Lazylazerpants
I can't believe I just saw your comment! Thank you so much! I honestly don't think this series was that great, but if you really did enjoy it, you'll definitely enjoy my other story, Love At First Type, if you haven't read it already. You don't have to, but it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! :D

So I spent the past week reading all three of these and I have to say, this was a fantastic end to a fantastic series. Great job!

@ThatRebelUnicorn
It is a compliment, I didn't know what word I should use and I thought "unusual" was the most appropriate :)
that's it! The cliffhanger was perfect though! It worked perfectly!

@Marbleskin
Still not sure if I should take "unusual stories" as a compliment, but thanks! To be completely honest, I completely agree that the ending of Listen To Your Heart was horrible, but I was kind of going for the cliff hanger thing like at the end of Catching Fire, but yeah… it sucked. I'm really glad that you liked the sequel though :D

Being honest, I was mad at the en of Listen to your heart, because to me, it wasn't a good ending. And I was so sad that it was over! Then, 2 hours ago, I realized that you wrote a sequel! I felt so stupid yet so happy!
I'm happy that you give the explanations of everything in the epilogue, what a brilliant idea! When I first read it, I was afraid that I missed it, that I could have skipped a chapter accidentally...
This sequel is amazing, you're still an amazing writer, & I truly like your other story too! Thanks for writing such good things and unusual stories!
