College Crushing

Chapter Five

Waking up not knowing where I am or whose room I'm in has to be one of the most terrifying things I’ve experienced. One thing that might top the list is not having a clue of what I did last night and what led to me being here. I feel as if I’m paralyzed as I rack my brain trying to put the pieces together, but when I hear steps approaching the door is when I realize that I’m only in my panties and a shirt that is way too large to be mine. The door creaks open and I instantly pull the covers over my face, afraid of who I’m about to see.
“Kenny? What are you doing?” his raspy voice fills the silence and peak my head out.
“Harry? What happened last night?” I uncover my head and rub my tired eyes.
He kneels down in front of me with a grin, “You just drank a little too much, so I let you crash in mine. I brought you breakfast and a toothbrush.”
Once my nerves wash away I sit up and give him a hug, “Thank you for taking care of me.” I pull away a little too quickly, remembering that I’m not wearing a bra, and grab the toothbrush out of his hand and rush to his bathroom.
I don’t remember being in here last night, but I clearly was since my dress is nicely folded on the counter along with my bra. I’m so embarrassed. Sure guys see bras all the time, but the fact that Harry had seen mine and touched it, that’s just strange. Isn’t it?
I shake the thoughts from my head as I begin to brush my teeth and take in my appearance. My hair is washed and displays my natural waves and I managed to get all the makeup off. At least I assume it was me, I don’t remember right now. After rinsing my mouth I place my toothbrush in the holder, next to Harry’s. I comb through my hair with my fingers and figured this is as good as it’s going to get and leave the bathroom.
“Okay, I wasn’t sure what you would be in the mood for, so I grabbed waffles, bagels, and a breakfast burrito. I’ll eat whatever you don’t.” He shrugs
“Wow. Um. I’ll go with the bagel.” He nods and hands me the strawberry cream cheese he knows I love, “Aw. You remembered!”
He comments while rolling his eyes, “It’s the only one you like. How could I not? Oh. Besides the pumpkin one, but we didn’t have that one.”
“Aw shucks. Maybe next time.” I giggle. I can’t believe he remembered what I liked on my bagel. I yawn and rub my throbbing head before taking a bite out of the bagel.
“Next time.” He confirms as he watches me carefully.
“What is it?” I ask as I rub my eyes
“Um, nothing. Just wanted to let you know that I can’t join you at the library today, I need to help clean up.”
“Okay. Will I see you later?”
“Yeah, I’ll text you.” I nod and continue to eat my bagel while Harry continues to eye me.

As I’m sitting at Starbucks in the library attempting to read for my psychology class, my mind is getting jumbled with memories from last night. I remember talking with Justin and drinking some alcohol that tasted like sweet tea and going to a basement to play a game with everyone. Then there was a lot of drinking involved, I think I even ended up having to kiss Alex, but she hasn’t texted me yet, so I’m assuming she’s still asleep. I recall getting something spilled on me and Harry leading me up to his room, which is where I woke up. He helped me out of my dress and unsnapped my bra, upon my request and I want to say I think he kissed me, but that could just be a false memory from a dream or something. After my shower, I think I ended up walking into the hall and hearing guys talking around me, but then Harry pulled me back into his room and led me to the bed. I think I also heard him yelling on the other side of the door, but I can’t be sure if any of that really happened. Why would Harry yell, that must be a false memory too.
“Penny for your thoughts?” I look up to see Justin smiling his beautiful smile at me, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“I’m not sure if they are even worth a penny. How are you, Justin?”
“Good. I’m recovering,” he laughs as he pulls out a chair across from me and sits down.
“Yeah. If I remember correctly, didn’t you have to take like ten shots?”
He shakes his head, “Twelve. It wasn’t fun, especially since I had to do more afterward.”
“What? Why?”
“Some of my frat brothers had me challenge one of the Gammas. Can’t say no to a challenge.” He holds his arms up as if he scored a touchdown, “I won, so it was worth it.”
I just give him a sly smile, “but was it really? How’s that headache?”
“Maybe it wasn’t, it’s an absolute bitch. One of the worsts ones I’ve had, but it’s better. I don’t know how I convinced myself to come to the library though, maybe it was so I could see you before tonight.”
“Tonight?” I ask and then it hits me, “Oh my gosh! Yes! What time was it again?”
He smiles, “I’ll pick you up at 7:30. Dress casual.” I nod and he rests his elbows on the table, “How was last night? Did you have fun?”
“Yeah. If I’m being honest, I don’t remember too much from it, but it’s slowly coming back.”
“Really? How much did you have to drink? You only drank what Niall gave you, right?”
His face looks serious and I know he’s not joking, “I think so. I don’t really remember.”
He runs a hand over his face, “That’s okay. Maybe you’re just a lightweight.” He gives me a reassuring smile and takes out his phone to call someone as he taps the table and stands up, “I’ll see you tonight, Kennedy.”
“Bye, Justin.”
Before he is out of earshot I hear him say, “I need you to find something out for me.” I shrug it off and go back to reading.
“I can’t believe you’re going on a date with Justin. Do you know how many girls want to be in your shoes right now? Like a lot, I would know since I’m the one they always come to asking if he’s single.” Alex laughs as she skims through my clothes.
“Well he did ask me when I was intoxicated, but I think I would have said yes if I was sober too.”
Tanner laughs, “That was a weird statement. Are you not looking forward to this date?”
“No. I mean, I am. But I don’t know. I haven’t been on a date in so long.”
Alex pulls out a checkered flannel, a cream sweater, and my green army jacket. “Justin’s a great guy. He makes some dumb ass decisions sometimes, but he’s great. Okay. Wear this with your blue jean skinnies and brown booties.”
“What? Why can’t I just wear a t-shirt? He said to dress casual.” I huff
Tanner and Alex give me blank stares and simultaneously say, “It’s a date.”
“Watch. I’m going to wear this, and he’s going to be in shorts and a t-shirt,” I point out.
“Nah. He’ll be casual, but date casual. And it’s fall, so you’re supposed to dress cute!” I roll my eyes and put on the outfit Alex picked out. It’s cute and I definitely need to wear more cute outfits like this, but I’m more of a t-shirt kind of girl.
We hear the doorbell ring and hear someone answer it, “Hi. I’m here for Kennedy.” One perk to living in a house full of your Sorority sisters is that you can depend on them for a lot. Especially since Tanner and Alex are here to help me with outfits and my hair. Another perk is that you don’t have to answer the door since the new members always want to know which boy is going to show up next. One downside is how loud it can get, and that’s why I tend to go study in the library.
“Looks like that’s your cue.” Tanner gives me an encouraging smile and they both follow me down the stairs. I see Justin waiting in the foyer and he meets me and envelopes me in a hug.
“You look nice.” He smiles at me but once Alex punches him, a pained look appears on his face along with shock, “What was that for?”
He rubs his arm and Alex warns, “Treat her right, no funny business.” He rolls his eyes but once she raises her fist again he holds his hands up.
“Alright. You got it.” He gives me a wink and I laugh.
“Bye Y'all.” They wave goodbye and I see my other sorority sisters peaking their heads out.
Once we step outside Justin leads the way to his black Mercedes SUV. He turns around and looks back up at the house, “Your place is nice. Honestly might be the nicest sorority house, in my opinion.”
I turn around and glance at the house . It has a balcony above the doorway being held up by two pillars, and cute smaller balconies with steel railings for the second story windows. The two stair walkways leading to the front door were accompanied by steel rails and the flowers in the middle completed the house along with the Σ∆Φ letters above the balcony in gold. “Yeah. They just remodeled it. It's amazing.”
He opens the door for me and I climb in, “Yeah it's fancy.” He closes the door and walks around the other side and gets in. Once he buckles himself in he starts the engine and gives me a smile, “You ready?”
“Yep. Let’s go.” He pulls out of our half circle driveway and we drive towards downtown Tulane.
“What music do you want to listen to?” He hands me his phone and I scroll through his list and gasp, “What is it?”
“You listen to Russ?” He smiles and nods, “I. Love. Russ. I’m going to play my favorite.”
Scared begins to play in the background and Justin adds, “He’s great. I like him and NF a lot. I wouldn’t have guessed that you listened to them.”
Shrugging I say, “I love music. Any kind, as long as it has a purpose, NF and Russ tell a story and I love that about them. I listen to mainstream a lot too, but I love the music that makes you feel something.”
He nods, “I get that. Music that has a purpose.”
“Exactly.”
We pull up to a small building and Justin parks and turns off his truck, “I hope you like Italian.”
“I love Italian.” He gives me a huge smile while he unbuckles his seatbelt and gets out of the car. As I’m unbuckling mine, I glance up and see a familiar face looking back at me.
Justin opens up my door for me and I wave, “Hey! What are you doing here?”
“I’m here with Zayn! I didn’t expect to see you!” Gigi gives me a hug and says hi to Justin. “Are you two on a date?”
I blush and Justin rubs the back of his head, “Yeah. I’ll let you two catch up and I’ll go see if our table is ready.” He walks off and Gigi watches him enter the restaurant then turns to me.
“I didn’t know you and Justin were a thing! I always thought there was something between you and Harry!”
“Harry and I are just friends, but yeah. Justin asked me out last night and I said yes. So it’s still new.”
“Aw! Well, we need to stick together. Zayn and Justin are the only ones from their friend group that are Alphas. Louis, Harry, Liam, and Niall are Gammas. Not really a big deal, but I feel like I’m always cheering for the wrong team during intramurals.” She laughs
“Yeah, that makes sense.” I giggle and see Justin peek his head out, “Okay. I’ll talk to you later! Tell Zayn I said hello!”
“I will! Bye have fun!” She turns and walks towards the parking lot while I walk to the door being held open for me.
