The End is Approaching [PAUSED]

Twenty - Different Times

*Niall’s POV*

I walk through the double doors into our high school with Zayn by my side. “Now when can I leave?”

“We just got here.” Zayn laughed, running his hand through his hair.

“And I already hate today.” I sighed, as we walked over to our lockers.

“Tell me about it.” Zayn sighed.

We leaned against the lockers, as we waited for the rest of our friends.

“Kind of cold out, don’t you think?” I thought out loud.

“Meh. I guess.” Zayn shrugged, waving ‘Hi’ to Mabel, as she came into the school, alone.

“Why are you alone?” I questioned her, as Zayn kissed her forehead, and gave her a side hug.

“Everyone was busy.” Mabel shrugged.

“How about Destiny-“ Zayn started, but quickly stopped himself, as Mabel, and I gave him a strange look, “Sorry. Bad Habit.” Zayn mumbled.

“Yeah,” Mabel says, giving the slightest, forced smile, before staring at her feet.

Everyone’s been trying so hard to not bring up Destiny’s name, or anything related to her lately, but it’s like everything single damn thing is related to her.

I know I shouldn’t be so affected by all this, but there very few girls that are actually cool. I mean, most of all them are a little too extra and slutty. Destiny was super chill, smart, cool and a good girl. I guess it really hurts everyone when good girls go rogue. Seems like everyone had high hopes for her.

On top of everything else, the boys and I didn’t have many friends that were girls, and she was our best friend. Plus, we didn’t get a reason for her leaving. There was no closure.

Whatever, I guess. Good things don’t always last.

“So, did you finish the Computer Programming Assignment?” Zayn quickly asks, trying to cover up his mistake.

“What are you stupid? I had two other assignments to work on and a test to study for. These damn teachers are going to kill us.” I sighed loudly, running both my hands through my hair.

“It’s due today, Mate,” Zayn says, leaning against the lockers with his arm around Mabel.

“Man, everything is due today,” I say, burying my face in my hands.

“Tell me about it,” Liam says, coming up next to me, alongside Ally, Josh, Harry, Bella, Neal and Amanda. “I’m pretty sure everyone’s on edge right now. Look at this school. No one is laughing or smiling. It’s like a death show in here.”

The halls are dressed in black and white, and the tiles are a checker board with humans as the pieces. The whole building sends a chill down my spine and reminds me of something out of my nightmares. I do not want to be here, I think; this is the last place I want to be. Everyone had their heads jammed into a textbook or binder, trying to get something from the old boring pages. Stress written on everyone’s faces. No one was smiling. No one was laughing.

Suddenly, a loud burst of laughter, at the very end of the hallway.

“Looks like not everyone is in complete depression mood.” Bella laughs lightly, as everyone’s eyes are trained on Destiny and Owen coming up the hallway.

She was laughing so hard, that it seemed like she couldn’t stop. She waved her hands in the air, as a flag of apology. The waves of laughter just kept coming. One could see her struggle to catch her breath, in between the laughs, as she stared at Owen wide-eyes. Suddenly, Owen joins and burst out laughing, as the two walk past us.

“What could they possibly be laughing about during this time of year? First term report cards are coming out soon, Destiny’s usually the most stressed at this point.” Mabel quietly saying, thinking out loud.

Suddenly, Mr Dave came up at the end of the hallway and called out Destiny’s name.

“Yes, sir?” She replied, stopping in her tracks and turning to face him, as her and Owen’s laughs died down.

“Did you finish that assignment?”

“What assignment?”

“The only assignment I gave to you?”

“Right. So, you see I have this dog, right –“ Destiny begun, read to spill out a very elaborate story.

“Oh, save it.” Mr Dave waved his hand, stopping Destiny mid-sentence.

“But you didn’t let me tell you my story – I mean explanation.”

“It’s alright. I’ve heard it all. Detention. After school, Baker.”

“Really? Because I was thinking - *cough* *cough*” Destiny smirked, faking a cough.

“Oh Jesus! Okay whatever, just try to show up to class, and try to show me something.” Mr Dave sighed, before running it over his hairless head.

“Right, sir. I’ll go get you my dog.” Destiny nodded, with a smirk, before biting down on her lips.

“What dog?” Owen questions her after Mr Dave disappears.

“I don’t know. I gotta go find a dog now.” Destiny shrugged.

“How does she get so many freebies? This is so unfair. If that were one of us, I’m pretty sure he’d be ready to suspend us.” I growl quietly.

“Hey, Destiny.” Bella calls to her, before Owen and her leave, “What’s up, I mean I know it’s none of my concern or anything, but like you’ve kinda been slacking lately. I always heard you were that smart, good girl that got everything done, like a week before it was due.”

“Well, first of all, I’m pretty sure we only got it like 3 days ago, so that would kinda be impossible. And honestly, I don’t give a fuck, anymore.”

“My ass you don’t. Who, the fuck, are you, even, now?” Neal pipped up, glaring at Destiny.

“It’s happening …” I hear Josh whisper to Ally.

“Excuse me?” Destiny asks, raising an eyebrow at Neal.

“I said, who, the fuck, are you? Because you definitely aren’t Destiny. I’ve HER my whole life, and never would she say that she didn’t care about her marks in school.” Neal declared, angrily.

“Oh yeah? Well, guess you didn’t know HER well enough.” Destiny replies, emphasising on the “her”, just as Neal did.

“Oh sugar, I know I did.”

“Yeah? Then you should know not to get in my damn way.”

“Oh yeah? What are you going to do? Go cry to your daddy.” Neal shot at her.

“Neal, I think you should leave it. Come on. She’s not worth it.” Josh starts.

“Don’t, Josh. Let it happen.” Zayn quickly says, pulling Josh away from Neal.

Destiny glared at Neal angrily, before her eyes landed on Amanda, and smirked.

“Amanda.” Destiny smirks.

“There’s nothing you can tell her that will screw anything over. I’ve done nothing wrong.” Neal quickly says. Destiny watches Neal eyes for a while, still smirking before she turned her attention back to Amanda.

Glares at Neal and then turns back to Amanda with a smirk.

“How long have you two been dating, Amanda?” Destiny asked her. Amanda looked at Neal, seeing if she should answer the question.

“I’ve got nothing to hide. So, go ahead. Tell her. Even though she very well knows herself.” Neal shrugged.

“Three months – nearly four,” Amanda says as Neal watches Destiny through narrowed eyes and arms crossed in front of his chest.

“So, you guys have sex yet?” Destiny asks, immediately Neal tenses up. “Oh! Oh! Oh! Look who’s gotten so tense now. Wanna take it back now, don’t ya?” Destiny laughs.

“Destiny, don’t.” Neal starts, through clenched teeth.

“Why does it matter?” Amanda buds in, through narrowed eyes.

“Just tell me.” Destiny urges.

“No, Neal has a thing where he won’t until 4 months have passed by.” Amanda answers, Neal is still tensed.

“Oh yeah? Okay, just keep in mind that this only applies to if Neal has been a little off lately. You know, like he's been kinda avoiding you, or missing your texts or calls, stuff like that okay?”

“I haven’t been doing that,” Neal demands.

“Shut up, Neal.” Amanda declares, standing in between Neal and Destiny.

“Okay, so let me give you a history lesson about your boyfriend here.” Destiny smirks.

“Destiny. Please.” Neal starts, now pleading.

“Neal, Damn it! Shut up!” Amanda demands, angry.

“Oh, she wants more. Can’t turn down a request.” Destiny shrugged with a grin.
“Destiny just fucking spill it,” Amanda commanded.

“Alright so. He had like three other girls before you. He told them all the same condition. And be mindful that we grew up together, yeah? Okay, so the first girlfriend lasted three months, another three and a half months and the last one, lasted for three months and 30 days, and it was a 31-day month. So, you do the math.”

“You were going to do the same to me, weren’t you?” Amanda quietly says to Neal, refusing to look at him.

“No. Oh god no, Amanda.” Neal starts, touching her arm.

Immediately, Amanda yanks her arms away from him. “Don’t touch me. You liar! Yes, you were! You did everything she just said! It was legit last night, I called you, several times and you didn’t pick up, once!”

“I’m sorry. I am. Amanda. Please.” Neal begged.

“No, just leave me alone. It’s my fault, I ever decided to trust anyone again.” Amanda growls, holding back tears before she runs out of the school.

Before Neal could run after Amanda, Destiny placed a hand on his chest, stopping him, “Next time, don’t screw with me, Neal. You should know that by now. I don’t let go that easy.” Destiny demands.

Neal glares at Destiny, not saying anything to her, he calls after Amanda, as he runs after her.

Too scared and shocked, the rest of us did nothing but watch as Destiny walked away with a smirk. Before they were out of ear- and eyeshot Owen lets out a small laugh.

“What Owen?” Destiny questions him, through narrowed eyes.

“Nothing. Nothing.” Owen shrugs, stopping himself. Destiny continues to stare at Owen, who lets out another small laugh.

“What is it?!” Destiny demands, getting a little agitated.

“Nothing, I didn’t say anything,” Owen swears, throwing his hands in the air.

“You laughed.”

“No, I didn’t you did.” Owen insists, but Destiny continues to glare at him. “It’s nothing, I swear. Let’s get out of here.”

The two of them continue to walk away, but just as they teach the double doors out of the hallway, Owen bursts into a loud laughter. “Owen!” Destiny demands, angrily.

“I’m not laughing!” Owen laughs, throwing his hands in the air.

Destiny stops and glares at him, waiting for him to tell her what he was laughing about. Owen smirks, and with a sigh, he throws his hands in the air before whispering something into her ear. “Oh, my gosh, Owen. Shut up!” Destiny laughs, playfully slapping his arm, as Owen continues to die in laughter.

“Hashtag: Not Our Destiny.” Josh quietly says, just as the two of them disappeared through the double doors.

“What?” Liam says, looking at Josh, before chuckling. Everyone joined in on the laughing, except Bella who didn’t understand what’s going on, myself because what the heck, and Harry who didn’t seem impressed by the whole scene.
