The End is Approaching [PAUSED]

Fifteen - Breaking the Vow of Silence

*Destiny’s POV*
*Wednesday*

I managed to braid the top of my hair, after pulling on my white uniform shirt, and the pleated navy blue uniform skirt.

It’s been a week since my first encounter with Bella, who occasionally sat with Owen and me during lunch. We were supposed to meet up during the weekend, but something came up with her, and she had to cancel.

I grabbed my backpack and sweater and took a few breathes in before heading down the wooden stairs, several steps creaking underneath my footsteps.

“Is that Owen kid picking you up, today?” Mum asks me with a cocked eyebrow.

“Yup,” I reply shortly.

“Does Destiny have a crush?”

“What? Ew, no, Mum. He is just a friend. Don’t be ridiculous.” I shot her down, with a disgusted look. “Where’s Dad?”

“Sleeping.” Mom replies shortly.

“Oh,” I say, knowing exactly what that meant. I decided against continuing the topic.

Eventually, I leave the house, deciding to wait on the front porch for Owen. I fix my shirt and skirt, as they were riding up my body.

I look over to my left, to see the door of the house next door opening. Harry steps out with Bella. She must’ve slept over, and his Mum is probably on a business trip. I wonder what’s up with his father.

I try not to care or think about Harry and Bella were doing during their little sleepover, but from the smile on Bella’s face, I can pretty much guess it. Rolling my eyes, I pulled on my phone and begun to play my favourite game: Flow Free.

“Oh my god! Destiny! Hi!” Bella waves to me, from next door. Harry doesn’t bother to look my way, as he just gets into his car.

I wave back at her with a smile, before returning my attention back to my phone. I couldn’t care less what Harry thought of me, and whether he gave a damn about what I was doing or not. I’m glad there hasn’t been a single acknowledgement between the two of us, so far. Two can play at this “you are basically a piece of dust, I fling off my shirt,” game.

“Destiny, come here.” She motions to me.

I shake my head. “I’m waiting for my ride, Bella.”

“Destiny, look at the time, class already started.” Bella points out.

“What?” I say, puzzled. I look at the time on my phone, and sure enough, class has already started. Where is Owen? Deciding to call him, I watch as Bella peeks her head into Harry’s car window and says something to him, as my phone rings. Bella rolls her eyes and walks over to me.

She sits down on the porch next to me, waiting patiently for me to finish up on the phone.

“Hey, Destiny?” Owen says, sounding tired. “Oh shit! I was supposed to pick you up! I’m so sorry, I completely forgot to call you, but I’m really sick.”

Telling him, it’s alright, after he repeatedly apologises, I said goodbye and hung up the phone with a sigh.

“You ride is a no go?” Bella asks me, hopefully.

“Yeah. He’s sick. I’ll just walk,” I shrugged, getting up as I jammed my hand in my sweater pockets and made a start for the road.

“What? No way! You aren’t walking,” Bella demands, stopping me.

“It’s only a fifteen-minute walk, Bella,” I point out.

“But, we’re going that way, we’ll just drive you. Harry won’t mind much.”

“Bella, listen to Harry and I really don’t get along.”

“So, I’ve noticed,” She rolls her eyes. “But, frankly I don’t really care or understand why you guys don’t like each other. Whatever the reason is, a short car ride isn’t going to kill you, two.”

“I’m sorry, I really have to pass.”

Bella sighs and rubs her forehead, “Why don’t you like him?”

“Bella, I should get walking.”

“Fine. We must stop for coffee before heading to sch-“

“Bella. I’m walking.” I demand, laughing lightly at her persistence.

She raises her hands in surrender, muttering, “Fine.” Under her breath several times.

I begin walking to school and notice Harry’s car go in the opposite direction. She really wasn’t kidding about them stopping for coffee.

I wasn’t actually supposed to be walking long distances because my body just couldn’t take it anymore, but it was better than getting into a car with Harry. I’ve walked for about five minutes so far, and I’m doing alright. My breathing seems a little laboured than normal, but I power through it until I see the hill.

“Crap,” I swore under my breath.

I begin walking up. The sidewalk is narrow here, and it makes me paranoid as cars drive by. One of which drives by the way above the speed limit, horn blaring. I jump a little and get a glimpse of young guys jeering inside of it, taking pride in scaring me.

Starting to feel slightly exhausted, I sit down for a while. Jesus! When is this going to be over? I probably shouldn’t have skipped those pills this morning.

Anger boiling deep in my system, I punch the wall hard as I cover my face with my arms and lean against it, as I begin to cry silent tears.

“Destiny?” a familiar voice calls me, I look up to see a car has pulled over in front of me. I look up to see Harry and Bella both staring at me. Harry has a blank look plastered on his face, while Bella looks concerned.

“Destiny, are you crying?” Bella asks.

“Oh jeez no. I'm all right.” I say, quickly putting a smile on my smile.

“Get in the car. We’ll take you to school.” Bella demands.

“Bella, it’s really fi-.“ I start, but Bella cuts me off immediately.

“Nonsense. Get in. I’m not taking ‘No’ for an answer,” Bella commands, as Harry shifts his gaze away from me and he looks straight ahead clenching his teeth.

“Fine. Sorry. I hope it's not a problem.” I reluctantly say as I get into the car.

“Don’t worry. It’s not a problem, we are going to the same place.” Bella ensures me.

At first, the car ride was dead silence, as Harry drives. I clench my jaw as I look out the window, regretting to leave the house this morning.

“Destiny!” Bella exclaims, “Look at this bracelet.” Bella shakes her arm as she shows off the wrist that she puts out for me to see. Around it is a simple chord with a charm, bracelet. The charm is an owl.

“It’s nice.” I choke out.

“Yeah, he gave it to me at our special place.” Bella happily says, still playing with her charm.

I literally gasp and grasp at the charm bracelet on my arm, as I see Harry visibly tense. Harry had given me the same bracelet, except with a bird charm at our special place.

I looked down at my bracelet. Why the fuck do, I still wear this damned thing? Immediately I took it off and shoved it into my pocket.

“Come on, Harry! Stop it!” I laughed, as Harry continued to splash water on me. We were in a canoe in the middle of the lake, hopelessly suck in the middle as Harry splash the lake water on me.
“No!” Harry laughed, still splashing me. Struggling to break free from the water torture, I rushed at his face. Cupping it in my hands, I kissed him passionately, making him stop splashing me, and kiss me back.
Secretly I grabbed a small cup, as Harry and I continued to kiss one another, and scooped water into it. Slowly I brought it up to his and broke away from Harry before dumping the cup of water on his head.
“Destiny!” Harry screamed, before attacking me with tickles.
Soon we are both calmed down, and Harry and I managed to get our canoe off to the shore. We got back on land, at a cute little field area, surrounded by tall weeping willow trees. From that day on it had become out special spot.
“I have a present for you,” Harry says to me, bringing out a little box he had tucked away in his sweater pocket.
“Awh, but Harry I don’t have anything for you!” I quickly say, guilty.
“Oh no! I don’t want anything. I swear. This is just because I love you.” Harry quickly adds.
Harry uncovers the box to reveal a simple chord with a charm, since that moment I never took off that bracelet.
“Special place?” I say, my voice barely above a whisper. There is a tension in the car that I am positive that Harry feels, but Bella was clearly oblivious to it.

The special place Harry and I had, was our secret getaway. We both swore to never bring anyone else up there. That place was sacred territory. I couldn’t care less about him, but if he reclaimed that place with her … I still don’t care. I shouldn’t care. I won’t care.

Just as Harry pulls up into the parking lot, Bella say, “Yeah, it’s so cool, because-“

“I’m sorry. I need to get to class.” I quickly snap, not caring if I hurt Bella’s feelings. I don’t need to hear how else Harry obliterated everything out about past relationship.

Jumping out of the car, I slam the door and walk quickly toward the school. At the last minute, I decided to boycott school, and go to the playground, instead. Leaning against one of the large oak trees, I gently close my eyes.

Gathering air into my lungs, I let out a sigh. Letting go of the tenseness I had collected in the car, I drove my hand through my hair.

I feel a shadow look over me. Shock overwhelming me, as I smell the familiar cologne. I look up to see Harry’s green eyes staring down at me.

Harry opens his mouth, about to break the long term streak we had of ignoring one another.
