Trouble!
1
Damn! I was already late! I charge across Rotherhithe Street and run towards the Mayflower pub. I’d got an interview for a summer job at 11am and I was already running ten minutes behind. I’d got up at stupid o clock this morning to catch the train from Leeds to London which of course, arrived late. This was an awesome job opportunity and I was desperate to get it; well desperate to not spend the summer living with mum and dad in Leeds anyway!
The bar was thronging and I suddenly realise I don't know what Melissa, (the woman I was meeting) looked like! Maybe I wasn't the hot shot personal assistant I’d pretended to be after-all! I push through the crowd looking for a woman who looked like she was looking for someone too. After a few circuits, people had started to notice the desperate looking girl. As a couple vacated a table, I sank gratefully into their place and quickly make a call…which rang out to message. Its just too loud to speak so I flick a quick text; and settle in to wait.
Customers eat lunch and leave but half an hour later I’m still sat here; and no word from Melissa. It looked like my dream summer job was now a dud. I felt humiliated and pretty depressed about summer now as I didn't have a plan B. Miserably, I admit defeat and decide to leave…
…then, freezing cold splash across my chest! A full glass of red wine splashes all over my new white top! “Oh no! ’m so sorry!” says a male voice with a slow accent. I look up ready to rip into the guy, but I’m stopped dead by the most exquisite pair of green eyes I’ve ever seen. A tall, truly beautiful boy - Harry Styles! I’m frozen to the spot for a second as he turns to grab napkins from the bar.
He’s wearing a beanie, hoody pulled up, obviously trying to go incognito today. Now we’re the centre of attention, his covers well and truly blown. A ripple of recognition surges through the bar. As he turns back to hand me the napkins, I see he’s becoming upset. People are staring, he didn’t want this right now.
He starts to apologise again when I catch his eye and say “I knew you were trouble when you walked in!” Instantly, he lights up with a disarming smile. He leans in and says quietly “Smartarse!” I demur, “sorry! I guess you hear that one a lot?” He laughs, “First time I swear. I’m so sorry about this,” he says, motioning my ruined top; and I’m pleased to see, he’s relaxed a little. “Aw don't worry about it.” I say, mopping helplessly at the huge stain. “I’ll pay to get it cleaned,“ he offers. I brush him off. “It’s a cheap top, really not worth it.” I smile, dazed by the fact he’s so much better looking in real life! He’s about to start apologising all over when my phone buzzes with a text. It was Melissa saying ‘be there in ten! so sorry!’
“Oh no! “ I exclaim. “What?” he asks, anxiety clouding his lovely face again. I blurt out, “I’ve got a job interview, they’ll be here in ten minutes! “Wait there,” he says, “I’ll be back!” and charges from the bar.
By this time everyone is looking right at me and I drop into a chair, cheeks burning. He's probably just made a run for it and I can’t say I blame him. What the hell do I do now? Maybe I could try to wash and dry it in the loos before she gets here? To be honest I’m so thrown by seeing Harry in the flesh that I can’t think straight. Anyway, he told me to wait here…
Oh and XXXX is exactly what you think it is! just warning you...
